About a month had passed since the Unicorn Twilight Sparkle had found herself thrust into her destiny as an Alicorn Princess at the hands of the Elements of Harmony. She felt glad that not much about her life had changed since the events of her Coronation had transpired. She felt blessed she was able to continue living in the Oak Tree Library in the town of Ponyville. She enjoyed the time she had to spend with her friends and the quite hours she got to spend studying her magic.

At this current time early in the evening that quiet time was about to be shattered, as Pinkie Pie could be seen slowly climbed up the side of the Library tree. Not that anypony was paying attention to her of course. Pinkie was smiling ear to ear in anticipation, of surprising her friend, as she set her feet onto the balcony, and let herself in through the balcony door. She had such wonderful news to tell Twilight. Tiptoeing across the vacant bedroom, Pinkie slowly opened the door and peered down the stairs towards the main room, where Twilight Sparkle and her assistant Spike could be heard talking.

“Twilight what about these two?” Spike asked as he held open two books, that had been recently borrowed for study from the Canterlot Archives.

Twilight levitated the books towards her to read the spells he had suggested. “'Turn back time'” Twilight read setting the first book on the podium next to her. “and 'Rewrite past events'.” Twilight read from the second book. These might work.” Twilight turned towards the baby dragon, “But honestly Spike, do you know how much trouble this is? You never should have touched that magic ink I made. I told you it was magically permanent. Even my 'Repair a Mistake' spell not to mention a dozen other spells refused to clean this mess.”

Twilight looked at the pony-head bust on the table in the centre of the room. “Maybe magically permanent ink wasn't the best idea I've ever had.” Twilight thought to herself, as she studied the black iridescent ink that speckled it's wooden tones, accented by larger blotches across the bust and the table it sat upon.

“I said I was sorry Twilight.” the little dragon said, “It was right next to the other bottles of ink. It was an accident.”

Twilight smiled, “I know you are Spike, and I'm not really mad. You just need to be more careful. It could have been something more dangerous than ink, or something more valuable than this bust.”

“What's so special about this bust anyways?” Spike asked the unicorn.

“It's Heartwood,” Twilight replied, “it's made from the oldest wood, that was carved out of this tree, when they originally made the Library. And for a tree this size, the age of it's centre rings can easily be a few thousand years old.”

“So it's... Historical?” Spike asked.

”That's right.” Twilight replied, “Now keep quiet. I need to concentrate to weave the two spells together."

The Bust and Twilight's horn glowed in magic aura as she focused the arcane energies of her magic. The light of the magical aura slowly growing brighter as she poured her magic into the two spells and entwined their streams around the statue. Mentally magic was similar to pouring water from a pot, well two pots for this spell. Slowly and carefully and you would fill the glass, too quick and it would splash everywhere.

“Surprise!” Pinky Pie yelled as she jumped from the stairs.

Twilight's eyes and horn glowed ever brighter, as she mentally dropped the pots, pouring all her auric reserves into the two spells, as they infused with the aged wood statue.

“Pinky,” Spike admonished their cheery pink friend, “Twilight said she needs to concentrate."

“Too late!” Twilight yelled as she tried to stop the spells, and bring her magic back under control. “Oh this is bad.” Twilight said as she started to back up from the statue as it started to glow brighter. “Quick Spike, Run!” Twilight said before tossing spike on her back and charging towards the door.

“Run from what?” Pinkie asked as she followed Twilight's command.

But Twilight didn't get as chance to answer her friend. As they reached the door, a surge of magical light washed over them.
