The Marvelous Misadventures of A Pony Who Beleived in Science.
Pulitzer took a deep breath and set upon his journey. The air was crisp and the day dry, perfect weather to travel. The months of fall began to show on the trees, splotches of orange and yellow here and there. The road rugged and hard, it obviously had been traversed thousands of times.
He heaved the duffel bag over his shoulder and began the descent down th mountain. The road was full of travelers, coming and going, carrying on with their daily lives as they saw fit. He greeted many a stranger with a wave on the way down. Pulitzer spotted several carriages on his trek, but stared at two particularly regal looking ones on the last stretch, both working their way up. He thought it strange for carriages of this price and fashion to travel on a path such as the one he trodden on now. He simply shrugged and carried on down the mountain.
As time wore on, he could begin to see the outskirts of a town emerging from the canopies of the surroumding forest. He took a longing look back at his old home, perched on the mountain. A miracle of engineering, the sheer weight would need so many sup- "Sir?" Inquired a deep tone, "Is somthin' botherin' ya?" Pulitzer spun to rest eyes on a large red pony standing before him. The colt was very tall, and large compared to most he'd seen in Canterlot.
Pulitzer replied, "Nothing, just getting a grip on leaving home is all," The red Earth Pony nodded "Canterlot sure is a beautiful place isn't it." Again the red pony nodded, this time with a reply, "Ma sis and her friends are on their way up there righ' now." He then seemed to gaze at the castle, deep concern etched into his face. Pulitzer could tell this face had been worn before. "I'm sure your sister will be fine." Pulitzer stated, more just to calm the pony's nerves and steer the conversation to an end.
Thankfully enough it did, so he waved farewell and continued on his travels. An important thought struck him and he spun to yell, "Were they in fancy carriages?!" The red pony pondered and then looked back and nodded. This confirmed Pulitzer's suspicions for they originated from Canterlot, they could've been an a trip to Ponyville just as he was. Maybe to visit their relatives, no, that wouldn't make sense. Why bring friends on a personal trip. They could be from Ponyville itself. That would make sense. As Pulitzer thought about the strange carriages and their occupants he forgot to look ahead and tripped over a pothole. Several shining objects spilled across the road. A gray pony came to assist him.
"Are you alright?" Inquired the bubbly voice. Pulitzer paused to when they met at eye level, one eye was severely crooked. She saw his staring and was greatly appalled, "There's nothing wrong with my eyes!" She seemed to be saying this to herself more than anyone else. Her eyes teared up and she was going to storm off when Pulitzer replied, "I can fix that."
She seemed astonished by my remark. Pulitzer didn't expect this face, as he assumed many tried. Apparently none did.
She mulled it over and her expression changed from bewilderment to desire, "How."
Pulitzer grabbed a strange metal object off the ground. It zapped at his touch while he asked.
"What's your name." The grey Pegasus was reluctant to reply but finally gave in, "It's Derpy, Derpy Hooves." It wasn't reluctance, it was anxiety.
S-she's tryin to make a friend!? Pulitzer's mind reeled, friends... He relished the thought, but mentally scolded himself. "Not again." He muttered in an undertone.
"Alright, this should be clean and quick, look to the left with both eyes." stated Pulitzer as he wound a crank on the strange device. Derpy did as he said and replied, "How will I know when it w-" ZAP! A huge bolt of electricity coursed through Derpy, not a knock out, but still a doozie. "OW!" Derpy yelled.
Pulitzer hastily told her it was fine, and most importantly...it worked. When Derpy finally opened her eyes they were lined up, perfectly! Derpy seemed to gawk at the sights around her. She appeared to be at a loss of words too, for she kept muttering with a smile war to ear. Pulitzer thought it time to intervene when she started stumbling. He managed just to catch her as she tipped over. Derpy gave a nervous giggle and blushed. Pulitzer noticed her actions and did likewise.
When the silence was broken by clatters and clangs as Pulitzer picked up the rest of his dropped items Derpy decided to ask how exactly Pulitzer fixed her eyes. "It's quite simple really, through testing on my self I learned that electricity can cause muscle spasms." Although that sentenced was a bit "dumbed down" derpy was still confused.
"I'm pretty sure small electric pulses are how the brain controls muscles." Stated pulitzer. Comprehension dawned on Derpy and she stumbled with her next scentence, "So...um....since you don't kinda maybe have a place to stay...canyoustayatmyace!" Her stature shrunk with every word.
Pulitzer was caught very off guard by her statement and was torn as to what he should do. "Um....yes?" At his remark Derpy lept for joy...into the tree branch over-head. She landed with a rough thump as Pulitzer rushed to her aide again.
After he checked for bruises, Derpy stood up as if no tree hit her. Pulitzer decided it would be a bit safer over a cup of tea. Derpy hastily, but then folly replied, "Sure." The duo set forth for the town ahead. A mass of ponies crowded at the square.
Pulitzer just assumed it was a heavily populated town, Canterlot was. This apparently wasn't so, as Derpy noticed the commotion and hazily tugged Pulitzer along.
