You stare vaguely into the the oh so very interesting stippled ceiling in your office, your drywall constellation chart has no new entries. The unrelenting whirr of the damned air conditioning suddenly pieces its ways back into your consciousness. Tartarus must have froze over because you are having a slow day working as a surgeon. You spin around in your chair while you recall your last 7-hour marathon of a kidney transplant.
You levitate a pen into the air along with a dictionary and crack it open to page 234 so you can continue your campaign to sign your initials on every page. You make sure to sign each page front and back in your best writing while trying not look at the clock. To your utter dismay the entire day goes by without a single interesting thing happening to the end of your workday.
You grab your coat off from the coat hanger in the corner of the office and carefully put it on. Just when you are ready to exit the room you get a call from EMS.

“It punctured through his entire chest ma'am.” the student addresses you.
“I’d like something more technical please.”
“ahhhghh uhhh... It went in in the back crushing the 4th rib and exited in the front between the 4 and fifth ones.”
“And the child?” you quicken your pace to the surgery room.
“okay save for a bad case of shock.”
“All I need to know.” you push open the doors and relieve the paramedics that are caring for the patient.
“Alright he was impaled on a flagpole on a side of a building and was hanging there for an hour before he was cut down.” you move to uncover the patient.
“..... I wanted something to do and I got it.”
Without the injury he would have looked like an athletic stallion with a grey coat and an aero blue mane that striped darker and lighter that you assume was styled into a mohawk. The section of the flagpole left lodged in him stuck out a bit on one side leaving him in an awkward position to operate on. You start things off with a nice blood transfusion before you move on to more dangerous procedures. You slowly remove the object while clamping, cauterizing and stitching any particularly urgent loss of blood.
It has been at least 3 hours the object is still nicely embedded in and you somehow have kept this stallion alive. Your concentration is remains unbroken for the rest of the night.

When the surgery is finished you send your assistant off to meet the patient's family while you scamper off to sleep in your office. You toss open the door with your magic and slump yourself in your chair. You fell to sleep very quickly.
You have no idea how long you were asleep although you are awake and well rested to a certain extent. You groan and pick yourself off the floor towards a mirror so you can get yourself at least partly presentable, you decide to put your jacket on. You levitate the hair brush you keep in your desk and begin to brush your mane. You pocket the toothbrush and tube of toothpaste you also keep in your office and head for the nearby bathroom in the nurse’s station.
When you walk into the nurses station you notice it’s empty and an alert for room 176, you assume the one nurse that is supposed to be on duty is already on the job. You head for the sink and begin brushing for the first time in around 14 hours. You stare into your reflection, you really look like you just got up from a victory nap.
You walk back into the nurses office to see the alert still on for room 176. You technically don’t have to work today so what harm would playing nurse be? Although you have had to do this before when the damn nurses decided to take inconvenient days off.
Just as you start walking towards the room you realize that room 176 is in the ICU. The walk towards the room took a much more solemn tone.
You enter the room expecting to see a pathetic, pitiable pony.
“Damn you look great from this angle!” that had to be the last thing you expected.
“.... How are you even awake?” that is what is really puzzling you he should be unconscious or rolling on the floor in pain.
“Ouch.”
“I'm not a nurse so I can’t bring you any medicine or painkillers. You want anything to eat? A blanket, a pillow?”
“I can’t really move so bring me a straw and something to drink.”
.You head off to the cafeteria to buy a bottle of water and pick up a straw from the unmanned service counter. You take a peek at the clock and see it is 6:55am. Jeez you must have been asleep for at least 15 hours, but then again you didn't record time during the surgery and have no idea when you fell asleep. You take your leave and hurry back to room 176.
To your a surprise a young colt has managed to sneak himself into the ECU and is now in standing solemnly at the stallion’s bedside. The colt looked much like the stallion so you assume they’re related.
“Come on Rumble everything is alright you have nothing to feel bad about this is all my fault and I’m okay anyway. You have nothing to worry about...” he tussles the colt’s hair and notices no change in his mood. “You really have less to worry about now because I’m not going to be around to eat all the food and bother you all the time.”
“Because of me this happened” the colt falls into tears after his outburst
.”It was my hairbrained idea in the first place so I’m actually disappointed in you for not punching me in the gut when I told you about it.”
“No... I....” the stallion notices you standing in the hallway.
“I guess I’m getting nowhere so how about to go off to school and promise me you’ll ask that filly out on a date. Now what was her name? Was it Sweetiebelle?” The stallion motions for the colt to leave, the colt responds by running clear out of the room.
The stallion turns to you.
“Rumble is always this hard to get to. I’ve learned to wait a week before talking to him about anything.” he leans back into the bed. “Anyway I’m Thunderlane, nice to meet ya!”
