In the years when I was younger, and when I still believed that the world could be ‘saved’,
my brother gave me some advice. “Whenever you feel the need to criticize someone,” he
said, “just remember, no one on this earth had the same advantages you’ve had.” He didn't say more, but we've always been able to sort of communicate through silence, and I understood that he meant a great deal more than that. Yhough, I'm sure it pertained to me.
But because of that, I am inclined to silence myself in the face of stupidity, to reserve all judgement, which has made
me a veteran of 'Restraint'. My abnormal mind is quick to detect and attach this thought with those of lesser minds, though I don't refer to them as so. But in the presence of said 'lesser minds' I have feigned sleep, preoccupation, or a hostile levity when I realized by some extraordinary sign that revelation was quivering on the horizon.
I'm not sure if the reservations of my judgement are what led me to suspect him, or if they were just the matter of infinite hope.
My family, had certain advantages to others. My brother, was a captain of the guard, and my sister in law was an alicorn, So I won't say that me, being tutored by her was a sign of fate, rather just me being at the right place at the right time, or vise versa dependent on how you look at it. But that was long before I met my friends.
And long before I had to leave them. Becoming a ruler, was easy enough. I wasn't prepared for the changes that came with it though. Not the wings, or the fact that I live with my mentor, but the fact that I had to leave those who shaped me into who I am.
I hadn't been to canterlot in so long that I actually had to ask directions on where to go. When I finally found my home, I and the princesses lived in a huge mansion, far from canterlot, Right on the beach that lay next to the bed of the lake, Canterlot though, that was where they conducted their business. I, however decided to live opposite to them, on the opposite side of the lake, in a small library. My friends had taken a liking to the place and visited 3 out of the 7 days every week. There was one thing though that intrigued me, I lived next to an old castle. At first, I was uncomfortable, and asked the princesses if they knew who lived there. They didn't. I didn't decide to dwell on it.
Along with the princesses lived blueblood, whose achievements were so great being at the ripe age of 21 that everything else ended in anti climax. I would visit them, blueblood and his 'lady friend' every now and again. Though that old castle still interested me. When I found out who, or rather what, lived in that old abandoned castle, I didn't know what he was.
Though he was the only one exempt from my disgust. He turned out alright in the end, It was what preyed on him, what foul demons lurked in the wake of his dreams and ambitions that closed my optimism of changing Equestria for the better. Though even he had his faults, he was worth more than the whole rotten bunch of the shallow ingrates that followed in his wake. He had an extraordinary gift for hope, one that i'm not like to see again in this world.
There are few things I remember though, the 3 that appear most vivid in my mind are, the letter that started it, finding him, and his last words to me.
"Shoot for the moon kid," he said, "Even if you miss you'll touch the stars, and who knows? Maybe you'll find me again.”
