Chapters Deep in the heart of the dark mountain regions of the corner of Equestria lies the king of all darkness and the ruler of all evil: King Sombra. Everpony knows King Sombra as a ruler of hate, destruction, and utter control, but what they don't know is that he is also a father.
"Onyx! Where are you?!" King Sombra howls as he stands on the balcony of his castle that is built on the side of the mountain.
"Yes father? I'm here" a dark stallion runs in with the same black waving mane as his father, and a small cape, just like his fathers, he stops at his fathers side.
"Soon son, soon you shall rule over this land! You shall inherit your fathers legacy of being the harbinger of destruction across Equestria!" King Sombra said as he held up his hoof and stomped it down hard into the pavement. Onyx sighed.
"But dad I don't want to rule the dull and dark kingdom, I want to explore and meet new frien-" before Onyx could finish King Sombra slammed his hoof and turned to face his son.
"There will be no talk of this petty ambition of yours! And don't you even dare utter that word of friends, your friend is the darkness and nothing but the darkness, and well the occasional changeling or dark descendant from the Village Of Darkness."
Onyx sighed once more and turned to go back to his room. "Yes father...." Onyx felt sad on the inside, he didn't want to be evil because he knew no one would like him if he was, although he did have one friend he snuck out every night to see. She lived in the Crystal Empire, which wasn't to hard for Onyx to get to considering if he walked through the forest no creature would attack the son of King Sombra.
In the Crystal Empire.
Princess Cadence standing in the Foyer "Nomina! Honey where are you?!" Princess Cadence called out for her daughter. A mare came running to her moms side, the same pale white coat of her mother, and the same long dark blue mane as her father.
"Yes mom?" the mare said.
"You need to help momma today with preparing the Crystal Feast, every royal in the Equestria will be there" Nomina giggled and complied with her mother, she loved to help her mom with her royal duties, although it wasn't her dream to become air to the throne, she just wanted friends, which was hard since she was royalty.
Shining Armor walks into the foyer with two private guards by his side, one with silver hair. Shining Armor ducked down and looked at his daughter.
"Dad!" the mare ran to her father and when she reached him, Shining Armor hugged closely, Shining Armor and his daughter rarely ever get time together due to Shining Armor having so many duties at once.
"Hows my girl doing today?" as he said looking at her.
"Great, today me and momma are going to help out with the Crystal Feast!" Shining Armor laughed and walked to Cadence's side.
"That should be fun for both of you, right?" Cadence giggled and nodded. Nomina ran up to mother and father and hugged them both. Such a gentle, loving, and caring family.
Nighttime .
"Nomina I think its time you get to bed sweetie, wouldn't want to wake up late tomorrow." Nomina groaned for she hated to go to bed early, so some thought. She kissed her mother and father and trotted to her room, although she through a rope ladder down her window and she ran out into the woods.
Nighttime .
"Son get some rest, your training was good today." Onyx took in a few breaths, Onyx had to train once in awhile to be fast, quick, and strong. He didn't mind it but he'd prefer he didn't. Onyx walked up to his father.
Sombra cracked a smile and hugged his son. Onyx nodded and walked off to his room. Onyx put his equipment up and used a dark aura to fly down into the forest. The forest was dark and damp but it was always worth the risk.
Nighttime (again)
"Woah!" Nomina said as she ducked under a branch and into the clearing. She looked around briskly.
Onyx stepped out into the clearing and saw Nomina. They both ran to each other for a friendly hug.
"I'm so glad to see you Onyx!" as she said getting her few minutes of hugs to her best friend.
"It's not like we don't sneak out every night to see each other!" they both shared a laugh and sat in the grass.
For hours upon hours they talked, they talked about what their parents were up to, what they were doing that day, whatever they liked to talk about. It was an odd sight the son of a demonic ruler, and the daughter of an elegant princess were best friends. Well nothing can get in between a good friendship, that is if not one person finds out, or the wrong people see them and decide to rat.
"You see him?" said a strange silhouette said behind a tree.
"I do, hes right there with the Princess" said the other.
"We need to tell King Sombra about this" said the one holding binoculars.
"Yes, yes we shall. My shadowbolt crew." the shadowbolts were commonly known for being evil, but they were also messengers of the evil kingdoms that still arose. The shadowbolts shared a demonic laugh and bolted into the air.
On the other side was a group of guards.
"Is that Madam Nomina? With the son of King Sombra?!" said a guard, until a private one pushed them out of the way and looked. This one took off her helmet and looked.
"Are you guys sure we should tell Princess Cadence, I mean the boy isn't harming her or anything." before he got it out her men were rushing to the castle.
"Blast!" yelled the guard and she ran after her men.
Monarchs Of Different Worlds
Nighttime
Onyx and Nomina were laying down and gazing at the stars, Onyx's dark mysterious eyes shone as Nomina's sparkled in the moonlight. The grass waved in unison as the trees did. The night was clear and the stars were shining, just like every night, it was beautiful for both of them.
"You know Onyx if you weren't Prince of the Dark Mountains I would let you meet my parents" both of them giggled and Onyx turned over to look at her. Onyx felt a strong feeling towards Nomina, he wondered if Nomina felt it to.
"Yeah, and if your parents didn't want to destroy my dad I would totally do so." Nomina giggled at the joke and turned to look at her friend, she noticed he was blushing.
"Awwww look, Onyx is blushing." Onyx noticed and his fur stood on end, he blushed even harder by this point.
He cleared his throat "What no I'm not, I'm just cold, that's all." Nomina giggled at him for a few minutes then curled up next to him. She looked around the scenery and saw the beautiful sight that is the dark night, she knew not all darkness was bad. Onyx brushed his dark mane out of his eyes and noticed it was becoming midnight.
"Hey Nomina, its midnight, we should probably go home." Nomina sighed and stayed on the grass for a moment.
"I wish we could do this all the time, where we don't have to worry about our parents, I just want to spend time with you." for a moment Onyx's dark eyes teared up. The purple aura around his eyes shifted around until he spoke.
"I wish we could to, but Nomina when I become king, I won't be evil, I'll offer my help to anyone that needs me, even if they are scared of me." Nomina got up and hugged her friend closely, wrapping her hooves around his neck, Onyx wrapping his around her.
"This is why I love you so much, you may be dark but your more golden than anything in the land." they both shared a hug for awhile then let go.
"I'll see you tomorrow night, same time as always." Nomina nodded.
"Same time as always." Nomina repeated then went into the direction of the woods she came through to get back to the castle.
Onyx sighed and almost felt like crying for he couldn't see Nomina that often, he just needed to wait until he was fully grown and ready to take on his fathers responsibility. He would then turn the Dark Mountains into the Shrouded Mountains and make it a dark but good place. If that made any sense to anypony. He sighed once more and went the opposite direction, treading through the forest.
Midnight
Onyx sneaked through the parlor of the Dark Castle, he eventually got to his room. He took a quick glance outside of his window and noticed a faint silhouette on the balcony, it was his father and the shadowbolts. Onyx quickly realized what was going down. He saw his father slam his hoof on the balcony so badly it shook the entire mountain.
"He is doing what?!" howled King Sombra, his eyes were filled with fury and rage, the purple aura looking almost like fire. The middle Shadowbolt walked in front of the king.
"Prince Onyx was in the forest clearing with Princess Cadence's daughter, Princess Nomina." the two behind her shared a demonic snicker as they saw Onyx looking out his window. That was until King Sombra slammed his hoof one more time into the ground. King Sombra meant to scare the Shadowbolts into doing his bidding.
"You three are going to make sure my son never, ever sees that child ever again!!!" his voice was so loud ravens, crows, and vultures all cowered into the sky from the trees below. The two in the back hid behind the one in the front.
"Y-yes your majesty, w-we'll be sure to do so." King Sombra turned around to go to his sons room, the Shadowbolts followed behind. As they reached the room King Sombra's rage only grew stronger, he attempted to open the door with his magic, and his hoof until it he noticed it was locked and he crashed through it with his head. The room was empty, saddlebags were gone and the window was open with the curtains flowing in the wind.
King Sombra was filled with rage. "Find hiiiiiiiim!!!!!!" the Shadowbolts cowered and flew out into the night.
Midnight
Onyx had ran for a good while, he think he lost the Shadowbolts eventually, Onyx trotted through the Crystal Woods, the trees of Crystal shone with each color of brown, yellow, gold, and green. It wasn't autumn but that was the beauty of the Crystal Woods, season didn't matter, it was always as beautiful as everything else in the Crystal Empire. He eventually made it to the streets of the Crystal Empire. He threw over his brown hood and walked the streets. He had to make it to the castle.
"Wow, I never realized how safe it felt to be in a place of happiness and not despair like the Dark Mountains." Onyx took in the feel of the amazing city, everything shone of some sort of sparkle. Each and everyone completely distracting Onyx from what hes supposed to do, he shook his head and continued on.
He had to sneak through the garden of the Crystal Castle, he used his magic to get him into Nomina's room, he saw she was sleeping, he slowly opened the window and went to her bed.
"Nooominaaaa, Noooominaaa, please wake up." Nomina's eyes fluttered open, her vision a bit blurry, that was until she realized who it was.
"Onyx!!! What are you doing he-!!!" Onyx threw his hoof over her mouth.
"Shhhhhh" Nomina threw his hoof off her mouth and went into a silent whisper.
"What are you doing here?!" she snapped.
"Listen my dad, he found out about us through the Shadowbolts!" Nomina groaned and looked at him with sad eyes.
"My parents found out about us to, from the guards, after that I wasn't aloud outside of the house, I would of told you but I couldn't." she almost teared up.
"Well I'm here now aren't I, look I need your parents help." Nomina went wide eyed.
"How in Celestia do you think that could happen?!" she said as she became frustrated. Onyx shrugged and looked around.
"Look, I don't know but I have no where else to turn to." Nomina sighed and got out of bed to hug her friend, again.
"I'm glad your okay, and that's all that matters now, look we can't do anything now, we have to do something in the morning." she was right, Onyx had to wait till morning but wondered where he was going to sleep. Nomina looked around and pointed to her closet.
"Sleep in there, I'll wake up early and tell you, but for now that's all we can do." Onyx sighed, didn't argue and made himself a sorta bed in the closet, he curled up and looked at Nomina standing in the closet's door way.
"Goodnight Onyx."
Almost Dawn
King Sombra's magic destroyed the door of the hive, the changelings cowered at the sight of King Sombra, Queen Chrysalis sitting on her throne. She laughed at the sight of her darkest companion ruler.
"King Sombra, its a pleasure to see you, what is it you need?" she chuckled until King Sombra was in her face in a moments notice.
"I require your changelings to find my son, he went off with Princess Nomina, the brat of The Crystal Swine." Chrysalis chuckled evily.
"Use them at your disposal." the Changelings buzzed of an evil sort of laughing.

Morning
The bright yellow sun is shining. colorful birds are chirping, and crystallized citizens are happy.
Nomina wakes up, a bit drowsy, she gets up and opens up her window to get a nice soft breeze from the north, she then looks to her closet and remembers. She opens it up and Onyx is completely spread out on the floor, the blanket not even on him anymore.
"Onyx, wake up, Onyx its morning sleepy head." as Nomina said nudging her friends head with hers.
"Hmmmmm? Oh morning Nomina." he said as he awoke, he looked around the closet and groaned a little.
"Do I really have to get up?" Onyx groaned.
"No you can stay asleep as your dad searches for you and will probably destroy the Crystal Empire, when he finds you." Onyx rolled his eyes and got out of his makeshift bed. He rubbed his neck and brushed off his cape. It was a bit dirty from his run last night. His fur a little sweaty from the heat in the closet and his mane a mess. Nomina hugged him like she does always, it wasn't short though, which Onyx didn't mind. She let go and walked into her room. Onyx followed.
"So now what do we do?" Nomina looked at him and giggled.
"It's morning silly, we eat breakfast, I'll go get you some, wait here." Nomina straightened her mane first and left through her door out into the hallway and left Onyx in her room. Onyx looked around Nomina's pink walled room and thought to himself.
"Is this seriously how girly she is?" Onyx face hoofed at the sight of a Vinyl Scratch poster.
"Octavia is better." Onyx chuckled to himself then heard footsteps, his fur stood on end and he instantly jumped back into the closet. He heard voices.
"I don't know if you know yet, but Princess Nomina is apparently sneaking out at night and meeting up with that demon Prince Onyx from the Dark Mountains." Onyx got angry at that remark, he wasn't all bad.
"Oh come on Willy, thats rude you don't even know, there is good in everyone, even if he is the son of King Sombra." Onyx calmed down and realized that guard wasn't all bad.
"I don't know I have my suspicions." he heard the footsteps get quieter and came out of the closet. He took in a deep breath and waited for a while. Nomina eventually returned.
"Here, the chefs made some vegetable omelets." Onyx's eyes went wide and instantly took the dish and stuffed his face wildly, it tasted amazingly to him for he didn't really eat well at Dark Mountains, mostly consisted of a variety of fruits, meats, and stale vegetables.
"Oh my Celestia this tastes amazing Nomina, you eat like this all the time?" Nomina laughed and nodded.
"Yes we do." "Well it tastes amazing.....hmmm?" When he finished he overheard footsteps outside,his ears perking up, Nomina quickly picked up on that and when they turned around, Princess Cadence and a few guards were standing in the door way.
"Guards! Seize him!" Yelled Princess Cadence, and the two guards took Onyx and held him up by his hooves, he struggled to get free but the guards were to strong.
"Mom tell them to let him go!" Princess Cadence looked at her daughter.
"Nomina! Why would you harbor an evil presence such as him?" Eventually Shining Armor reached the room and walked in with a few guards, one held a pair of shackles. "Shackle him and bring him to the dungeon. The guards walked up to Onyx until Nomina blocked them.
"Dad please don't, at least let Onyx explain himself!" Shining Armor looked at his daughter and sighed.
"He better explain with detail, perfection, and the truth.
Shining Armor made a motion towards the guards and they put Onyx down. Onyx brushed his dark fur off and regained his balance. Nomina ran up to him and wrap her hooves around him tightly.
"Look, my dad is super angry at me and I needed a place to go, I'm not like him at all, when I was going to take the throne I was going to make peace with nearby kingdoms, I don't like being evil cause I don't get to make friends, besides your daughter, she was the only one to really see the good inside me and if she can do it, I hope you two really can." Shining Armor and Cadence took a look at him and let out a breath, they looked at Nomina who was holding him close.
"If our daughter looks at you as a saint, then I guess we can to, we are sorry for being rude, but exactly what do you want us to do, were parents to and so is King Sombra." Onyx let out a breath and looked at Cadence and Shining Armor.
"I was hoping you could make peace with my dad, or something of that nature, my dad really isn't all that bad, I know he tried to destroy the Crystal Empire, but hes still a loving father." Cadence and Shining Armor looked at one another again and noticed a dark cloud out the window.
The cloud charged quickly over the Crystal Empire, when it let out thousands of Changelings came raining down onto the streets, the three Shadowbolts led the elite teams of Changelings, King Sombra stomping through the massive crowd of cowering citizens. Cadence, Shining Armor, Onyx, and Nomina all ran to the front foyer of the Castle, they were ransacking the city.
"Oh Celestia save us." muttered Onyx under his breath. Shining Armor along with a few guards ran out into the city streets, Onyx followed in behind but Nomina grabbed his cape before he could.
"What are you doing?" Nomina asked.
"Stopping my father." Onyx knocked her hoof off his cape and ran into the streets. Nomina slammed her hoof into the ground and ran out as well. Cadence yelled at her daughter.
"Where do you think your going?!" Nomina didn't answer she ran after her friend. She knew she couldn't let him do this by himself, she had to be there with him, all the way or not at all. Onyx was running through the main street, eventually Nomina caught up to him, he looked at her.
"What are you doing?" Onyx asked surprisingly.
"Onyx, I'm not letting you do this alone and I won't go back to the castle, I can't lose you and you can't lose me, I know, but with both of us." Onyx was surprised at Nomina, he had never seen her like this before. He took in a few breaths.
"Alright then, shall we?" Nomina nodded at him and they both came to the street King Sombra was on, Sombra had one of the guards in a magic field in mid air. He dropped the guard and looked at his son. King Sombra's eyes filled with rage, but Onyx noticed something else, relief.

I know its not really action packed or anything but its more of a bridge to the final or close to final chapter. But I hope you guys like it :D
For a moment it was just pure tension, the only thing heard was screams of civilians and the buzzing of over a thousand changelings. Onyx looked at Nomina and let out a deep breath, then he looked to his father.
"Onyx, what are you doing in this territory of the Crystal Swine!?" yelled King Sombra, Onyx didn't answer he stood there in fear , he was afraid of his father at this state, his fathers mane was like a black flame, the purple aura had acted more as a weapon then a cosmetic. He was either in for the fight for his life or the beating from the underworld.
"Grrrrraaaa!!! Changelings attack the swine princess!!!" A pack of changelings buzzed and leaped towards Nomina, Nomina screeched, Onyx couldn't react fast enough, but a flash of blue met his eye. It was Shining Armor, he had struck the changelings down before they could reach his daughter.
"Dad!" Shining Armor took Nomina's hoof and ran back down the streets, Onyx turned around to see but in an instant changelings have tackled him into a dog pile. Shining Armor ran with Nomina on his hoof for a few miles until she stopped him and shoved him off.
"Nomina what are you doin-"
"No dad! Onyx is stuck back there under all those changelings, I can't just stand here and do nothing while the one I love is getting beaten by changelings, and if you don't want to follow me then don't, I can do this on my own because I love Onyx dad."
With that Nomina ran back to the streets, Shining Armor was puzzled by his daughters show of care, courageousness, and heart. Although he ran the direction he was going.
The changelings kept piling on top of Onyx, the weight got heavier, and the force got even greater. Onyx was near to suffocating with his screams of agony, until his eyes flashed a sudden green.
The clouds in the sky turned black, purple strikes of lightning were striking the land, all hell had broke loose around the Dark Mountains. At the peak King Sombra stood harnessing all of the darkness from the sky, from the land, and from the surrounding areas. He was power hungry, he craved power, he would kill for power. Behind him stood a tall mare, she had a long dark purple mane, her eyes were a light comforting green, hugging her leg was a little filly.
"Those Crystal Swine think they bested me with the Crystal Heart, no matter I will get back at them, from the help of my son, he will be the next ruler of all evil, he will be the next King Sombra, he will be the next dictator of Equestria!!!" and with that statement King Sombra began to harness all power, energy, and darkness.
King Sombra suddenly let all the power rush to his head, the darkness over took him, he became more evil then he ever was until Queen Sorcia ran away with the foal in her arms, down the mountain and towards the Dark Woods, to a familiar forest clearing. Once she heard the sudden roar she knew she had to protect the foal.
"Mommy whats happening?" the filly was in tears but Sorcia calmed him down.
"Nothing honey all you need to do is hide, but for now I want you to have something."
She pressed her horn against him a bright light of white flashed. The light reached the filly's heart and gave him feeling, emotion, and a heart of pure gold instead of black, the filly eventually became drowsy and fell asleep. Sorcia picked up the filly and laid it in the softest patch of grass. She heard trees falling behind her, it was King Sombra, he was more fueled with darkness and power then he ever was.
"Bring me my son, Sorcia!" Sorcia shook her head and stood proud.
"I am not letting you poison our son Sombra, he needs to live a life of purity, not gloom and doom like yours is!" Sorcia stood in little fear of King Sombra approaching her, King Sombra's eyes had turned a crimson evil red. He had lost his heart and mind.
"Move now." said King Sombra in the most haunting of voices.
"No." stated Sorcia,the filly awoke and looked up, a sudden flash of lightning, the filly shielded its eyes, Sorcia stood there until King Sombra lifted his body up and slashed down with his horn onto Sorcia, killing her, he didn't even know he had done it.
King Sombra let out a few breaths, inhaling angrily and exhaling with rage, until he realized what he had done. King Sombra's eyes returned to normal and he saw his wife lay dead in a pool of blood, that he had spilled. His eyes filled with tears, it began to rain and then he noticed the filly. The filly was adjusting its eyes until he saw his mother, he started crying, the filly ran to his mother and cried long and hard, until Sombra came up and hugged it gently.
King Sombra thought long and hard and realized it was his fault, but was to proud to admit it, he blamed everything on the Crystal Empire, they drove him to hatred and destruction, they drove him to killing his wife, they drove him to creating the new king of darkness. He looked at the filly, he still had his evil intentions, the darkness did not leave.
Onyx opened his eyes and let out the biggest burst of dark energy and every changeling that was on him flew back. His father stood at the end of the street astonished.
"There's the darkness being harnessed, now join me son and we shall bring the Crystal Empire to its knees." King Sombra laughed evilly until Onyx rammed his father in the gut with his head, knocking the wind out of him.
"This time you listen to me." Onyx stood proud and powerful but in control.
"Changelings attack once more!!!" Changelings all jumped into the sky and lunged for an attack until Nomina slammed into all of them, Shining Armor slamming into another group.
"Dad?" said Nomina.
"I can't let my girl fight a battle alone." Nomina smiled and fought the changelings with her father.
King Sombra lunged at his son until Onyx rammed his hoof into his father's stomach causing him to fly back into a crystal tree. Onyx walked up to his father, towering over him with rage in his eyes.
"Remember the night mom died, you told me it was a lightning strike, but no dad it was you! You killed mom because you let the darkness overtake you, you couldn't control it!" Onyx became harsh and angry, filled with rage. He lifted his body up and launched his horn forwards, Sombra flinched and shielded his face, but he wasn't dead, the horn was pressed against his head, suddenly a burst of light had exploded from Onyx's horn, he released a burst of emotion into his father, King Sombra yelled in agony of emotion touching his heart, emotion was light, light was bad for darkness, King Sombra's heart was being overcome by light. Onyx lifted his horn and looked at his father. His fathers eyes were no longer dark and hazy, they were purple and white like any normal stallion.
King Sombra adjusted and looked at his son.
"Son?" Onyx looked at his father and reached out his hoof to him.
"Dad." Onyx pulled his father up and they hugged tightly, Onyx wanted this type of emotion from his father, King Sombra for once gave every emotion to his son. Nomina and Shining Armor came from behind them, Nomina ran to Onyx and wrap her hooves around his neck, Onyx hugged her tightly, that was until Nomina pulled back and kissed Onyx deeply. Onyx's eyes burst wide open and was caught by surprise.
"W-what was that for?" Onyx asked. Nomina blushed hard and looked at him.
"I didn't want to lose you." Onyx looked at her and laughed, she did have the same feelings for him as he did her.
"Prince Shining Armor." King Sombra looked at Shining Armor.
"King Sombra." Shining Armor looked back.
Shining Armor nodded and King Sombra followed.
"Where are you two going?" Shining Armor laughed and so did Sombra.
"Some one needs to clean up the changelings.
Nomina and Onyx looked at each other and laughed.
10 years later.
A group of ponies were standing in a circle, Onyx fully grown now king of the New Empire, a collision of the Crystal Empire and Shrouded Mountains. Next to him was a fully grown Nomina, in her arms was a small foal, black body, silver pink hair. In the middle were two graves.
