Strawberry Jam on a Butter Knife
Strawberry Jam on a Butter Knife
Rainbow Dash trotted down the dark hallway, the only light from the dying flashlight she was holding in her mouth. Why would Fluttershy have any business in here? she thought. Pinkie Pie had told her that the last time she saw Fluttershy was walking nervously into a rather large looking rabbit hole...
...............
"Why would she go into a rabbit hole Pinkie?" Rainbow questioned tiredly. Pinkie Pie shrugged.
"I don't know. But uh... she was carrying something too..." Rainbow stiffened with interest.
"What was it Pinkie? What was she carrying?"
"A...a..." Pinkie shifted uncomfortably. "A knife...."
"WHAT?!" Rainbow shrieked.
"A butter knife! It was only a butter knife! But... it had something red on it..." A scary thought hung between Dash and Pinkie, one that neither wanted to address. Pinkie gave a nervous little laugh. "I don't think it was- I mean Fluttershy wouldn't... Jam! I bet it was strawberry jam! I bet she was making jam sandwiches for all of her little animal friends because they're too small to have peanut butter and it would stick in they're mouths so she probably just wanted to give them jam 'cause-"
"PINKIE!" Dash yelled, shoving a hoof over her mouth. Then, seeing the terrified look in Pinkie's eyes, she smiled and said, "Maybe you're right."
...............
Dash, now, however, was beginning to second guess herself. Every now and then she would hear a strange noise or two: growling, pounding, claws on a stone wall, the cry of a small animal. Rainbow began to notice herself walking quicker than before, and she tried to calm herself down. Stopping in her tracks, Dash took a moment to take slow and careful breaths. Just as she began to reassure herself that everything would be fine, her nose was filled with the metallic stench of blood. Rainbow gagged and searched for the source of the foul smell. Finding it, she was confused. A broken glass jar layed on the ground. Blood poured out of it, and Rainbow assumed that is what it once held. The label is what frightened her, though. It read in big friendly letters:
JAM
Rainbow Dash didn't think too much about it.
...............
As Rainbow continued down the hallway, the decor became more morbid and more foul. Blood was streaked messily across the walls. Bits of what Rainbow determined to be organs were tossed carelessly around the tunnel. Then there were the animal carcasses. Fluttershy wouldn't kill animals... would she? Rainbow thought. No. She wouldn't. Ever. So why are they here?
The cries of the animals became more frequent: some sounded like squirrels, some mice and some... rabbits. Rainbow tried hard not to think of Fluttershy's pet bunny, Angel, as the painful screeches of rabbits rang through the cavern.
At first only the cries of the animals were audible. Then Rainbow began to hear the loud sobs of Fluttershy. She sounded devastated, and Rainbow's chest began to feel tight with sorrow for her friend.
"I'M SORRY!" Fluttershy wailed. Then, in more of a strained whisper, she said. "I'm so so so sorry... He...made me do it.... I didn't want to! I love you..."
Rainbow Dash ran down the hallway as the silhouette of Fluttershy came into view. She was laying on the floor, sobs wracking her body. Entrails were dragged across the floor, blood was splattered everywhere, most of it on Fluttershy's own hooves. The dead bodies of animals were littered carelessly across the floor. Half-made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were sprinkled around the room. A butter knife was laying next to Fluttershy. And there was something red on it. But the most frightening thing was the large silhouette behind Fluttershy. It growled loudly, and Fluttershy shook even harder with a few more sobs.
"Fluttershy...?" Rainbow whispered cautiously. Fluttershy stiffened and spun her head around. She looked awful.Tears streamed heavily down her cheeks and her tear tracks were streaked with the blood that covered most of her face. Her once pink hair had dark streaks through it, like someone had rubbed it with charcoal. At the sight of Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy's darkly rimmed eyes widened.
"Rainbow Dash!" She shrieked.
"Yeah, it's me." Rainbow said as calmly as she could, though her voice still shook with terror. The silhouetted creature snarled again. "Fluttershy, come on we have to go, now."
"No! No Rainbow Dash! You go! And hurry! Please just go...." Fluttershy whimpered.
"Fluttershy, we are both going." Rainbow Dash said more firmly.
"NO! Hurry and leave before he-" Fluttershy's head snapped up and she emitted a bloodcurdling scream. Her back arched in pain. Rainbow stood helplessly, unsure of whether she should comfort her or stay away. Fluttershy's screeching abruptly stopped as she collapsed to the ground. Rainbow Dash plopped down beside her and tried to shake her awake.
"FLUTTERSHY!" She yelled. At the sound of her name she shot up. Rainbow Dash shrieked and backed away. Fluttershy's eyes were a bright, glowing blue. No pupil, no iris, no white: it was all blue. Rainbow Dash considered running away and getting her friends to help her. She decided it was a good plan: she would still be loyal to Fluttershy, but she wouldn't be in potential danger.
Rainbow Dash started to leave the room but she was stopped by the screams of Fluttershy.
"NOOOOO!" She wailed, clinging to Rainbow's leg. "STOP! STAY! STAY HERE!"
"Fluttershy! Get off me!" Rainbow shrieked.
"NO!" She shouted. Then in that strained whisper Rainbow Dash had heard before. "He won't like it... He wants you here... You... You have to stay..."
"Who's he?" Rainbow asked shakily.
"My master... he made me do it... he was hungry..."
"What do you made 'he made you do it?' Fluttershy, what have you done...?" Fluttershy scrambled around on the floor until she found one of the half made sandwiches. She brought it to Rainbow Dash and opened it up.
"You see...? He wanted food... but I had to make it this way..." Rainbow Dash looked closely at the sandwich. The 'jelly' was thick sauce-like blood. And the peanut butter was mashed organs, although some of it wasn't completely smashed and bits of recognizable insides were littered through it. Rainbow Dash clamped a hoof over her mouth as she felt her dinner coming up her throat.
"Why...?" Was all Rainbow could choke out.
"I had to..." Fluttershy whispered, then stiffened, her eyes glowing brighter. She relaxed within a few seconds and spoke again. "Sorry Rainbow Dash..." She murmured hoarsely. "He said you were next." Fluttershy picked up the butter knife lying on the ground and brought it up in a stabbing position. Rainbow Dash tried to run but Fluttershy pinned her to the ground. "Sorry... Time to go..." Fluttershy quickly brought down the butter knife on Rainbow Dash's throat. As Rainbow Dash felt the last bit of life slip out of her, she heard Fluttershy whisper
"Applejack's next..."
