Crossing Anthology Two
Introduction
Load Full StoryNext ChapterA while ago, two brothers lived together in the tall, breezy mountains of southern West Virginia. There was Seth, the eldest brother, who possessed a plethora of marvelous super-natural powers and abilities that could spread to others in a time of extended contact. Then there was Jonah, the younger brother, who at that time wielded no abilities or powers yet. A time would come in their childhood when their parents would leave them for two years, and the brothers would be separated for reasons that the parents never disclosed.
The two years of isolation passed. The young family was finally back together, and for once, everything seemed to be happy and without a care in the world, it was as if any previous transgressions had never manifested in the family. But this happiness was not to last.
A week passed, and the mother and father were called to leave the country again. Both brothers were heartbroken and the eldest proclaimed he would not be left again to be raised by their corrupt extended family. Seth took Jonah, and they both ran away from their home together to a town in central Virginia called Winchester.
During their years in Winchester, Jonah moved on from the parental separation and retained happiness, knowing he had friends to be there for him in a time of struggle. Seth did not cope the same as his younger kin; he still felt alone and unloved. In the year 2004, a magical door that only appeared one week every seven years came to Winchester. No one dared to enter the door, knowing that it was a one-way passage and that they couldn't return if they went through.
Seth approached the door and peeked through it to see the other side. On the other side, he saw extra-terrestrial life, something that no one would believe. Seth preached to Jonah and his friends of the amazing sight, only to be met with a skeptical crowd. The door faded away on the week's end, Seth continued to take drastic measures to speak his mind, but was eventually ordered by authorities to attend private, psychological, therapeutic sessions for many months. The therapy took it’s tole on Seth’s judgment and social actions, and he began to act out ways that some called “unstable.” Seth was locked away in a mental institution, and Jonah was forced to temporarily resided with his friends for a year, until Seth was released from the psychological institution in 2005.
The year 2009 came, the year that Seth and Jonah's home was reduced to a burning pile of rubble from a kitchen accident. The brothers had no choice but to move again, they could have returned to their home state and went to be with their parents, but Seth refused for "personal reasons and ideas". Furthermore, Seth insisted that they go to Virginia Beach. To the older brother, the city of Virginia Beach was of the utmost importance.
Later that same year, Seth and Jonah finally arrived in Virginia Beach. Seth remained to himself as he always had before; he kept all his feelings and thoughts away from his brother or anyone else. Jonah, unlike his brother, did the opposite. Jonah reached out to others and eventually became friends with someone who would join him in a new adventure. Jonah met Cole; an eccentric and positive boy who over time pulled Jonah out of the pessimistic attitude inflicted by his brother's, and into a more optimistic and carefree one.
Starting from the year 2009; Jonah, Cole, and several of their friends, even Seth, set out on a journey. It was a journey to stop an evil space pirate, King Zoxus, from ending the spread of super-natural, by killing off the beholders. They fought metal-suited androids, gangs, and other strange foes. During their time together, Jonah and Cole became as close as brothers and would do anything to protect one another, as well as keep the each other happy with silly humor and jokes. Seth observed the happy and brotherly bond that Jonah and Cole shared, and was jealous of it. Seth felt more isolated and alone as he traveled with the two; the envy he felt was enough to consume him like a monster.
In 2010, Jonah and Cole finally gained the ability to express their powers. Jonah obtained Cryokinesis, the ability to generate and manipulate ice; and Cole learned Electrokinesis, the ability to conjure electricity and lightning from his fingers. Little did they know that the supernatural abilities they possessed spread from Seth.
In late 2011, their adventure led them back to Winchester, and it was the same year that the seven year door would return. This time, Seth threw caution to the wind and entered the door, knowing that he would not be able to return. Near the end of the door's cycle, Jonah, Cole and several of their friends entered the door to search for Seth, and hunt down King; that entered the door sometime before Seth. Jonah and Cole fought King again, and prevailed. But King got away and passed though the other side of the trans-dimensional hall to a mysterious world named, "Mobius." Jonah, Cole and their friends followed.
During their time on Mobius, Seth was found again, this time completely changed. Seth betrayed Jonah, and attempted to kill him and Cole, Seth gave no logical explanation as to why. Jonah did not want to fight his brother, so he and his friends evaded him and stayed away from him. As the hunt for King Zoxus continued, it was learned that King found another way back to Earth using an ability known as “chaos control.” Seth confronted Jonah and his friends again, so instead of fighting, Jonah warped Seth across Mobius to a different and remote location, so that Seth could not find any of his friends while he and Cole returned to Earth to search for King alone. Seth was never seen again.
At the beginning of 2012, Jonah and Cole returned to Earth alone using chaos control and went to Virginia Beach in search of King again. Through several conflicts and mystery solving, Jonah and Cole finally put a stop to King Zoxus in the same year, and returned to their friends in Mobius.
Their adventure was done. It was around that time that Jonah was gifted with a second power; flight, given to him in a dream by the mother of his now deceased rival. The mother thanked him for delivering King to her, and that she wanted him to use the new power to create even more miracles for others across the universe.
Seth was still unheard and unseen, and he only remained that way. Jonah did what he normally did, and eventually moved on from what happened.
One year has passed since the boys’ adventure ended. As time passes and our characters age and learn, will they be as prepared for their next mission? It’s complicated to say…
