Crossing Anthology Two
Eternal Brother
Previous ChapterNext ChapterI could not believe what was happening; there I was, watching my best friend die right before my eyes. Dying at the hands of his brother, someone who should love him, and protect him, and encourage him to do great things... but that wasn’t the reality of the situation.
Jonah was leaned right up against the shield, right in front of where I stood and witnessed it all happen. I wish I could have just busted through the shield right there and scooped Jonah out of that mess.
My pony friends stood by me, they were each crying and sobbing, their hope was gone entirely. Seth finally got up; he cracked his back and other limbs and started staggering to Jonah with a small limp. I stepped back and told them to move out of the way, I charged a bolt of electricity and shot at the shield, there was no effect on the shield… I charged my lightning longer and made it as powerful as it could be, even stronger than the bolt I fired that ended up deflecting and killing Halie. I let it fly from my finger tips and blast the shield, no results… I finally tried my fragmentation spell, and let a pulse of explosive power soar into the shield, a thick plume of smoke came rushing back.
The ponies, Mina, and I became choked and were left coughing. The smoke dissipated and there were still no signs of any wear on the shield. The only thing I could see was Seth right in front of Jonah, cocking his firearm, ready to blow and splatter his little brother’s brains all over the sandy ground. I grew furious, I gritted my teeth and I kicked, and punched, and banged my head, and shocked the barrier as ferociously as I possibly could, only to be stopped by Mina. Mina came behind me and pulled me away from the shield, she brought me back out into the outer ring, leaving the ponies to watch as Jonah was losing his life, getting ready to receive one final hit.
I cried into Mina’s trench coat, I remember it smelling like fruits she stole a while back… I sobbed harder and louder, I looked up and saw Mina in the same state… It was the first time I ever saw her cry… Everything was so different, it felt so wrong…
Finally I felt a vibration in the floor and saw a green light shine across my feet; it came from the inner room. Then I heard one final shotgun blast.
Jonah was my best friend… my family… and my brother…
I can’t wait to be with him… to be his eternal brother…
