Questioning

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

With their hands cuffed, as they sat in a cold, windowless interrogation room only lit by a single lamp on the desk in front of them, Jonah and Cole were afraid for the worst. Cole grew an angry expression, and proclaimed;

"This is my damn brother's fault, he gave us that shit last night, and it got us either drunk, or high, or something and we did something stupid. The second I see him, he's gonna get his ass worn out!"

Jonah only looked around nervously, observing the room with rapid movements, unsettled by the dark setting. Cole saw Jonah’s fears and told him;

“I’m sorry your birthday turned out so shitty…”

Jonah looked at Cole;

"Cole don't worry, considerin' our good reputation with the authorities for helpin' them lock up most of their most wanted before, I imagine they'd go easy on us."

Cole sighed,

"Your right, if they don't then they suck, not us."

Footsteps were heard from down the hall by the duo, as well as what could only be described as horse hooves, clopping against the ground. Cole interrupted himself and said,

"Someone is coming! Now we can get some answers."

The door opened meters from them, and two figures walked in: the sheriff of South Island, Mobius; and an unfamiliar dark blue unicorn with large wings. At sight, the strange equine was female, and wore a black crown and neck plate, with silver plating around each hoof. Her flowing mane was a semi-transparent lighter shade of blue that flowed without wind and gave off sparkles.

The sheriff sat across from Jonah and Cole while the pony stood and observed the boys with stern eyes. The sheriff began to speak,

"You two, you two fine young men are last I'd ever expect to be sitting in front of in THIS room... Did you two even know what it was you were doing when it happened?"

Jonah and Cole looked around the room, embarrassed. Jonah snapped back into the conversation and said;

"To be honest sir, Cole and I can't even seem to remember what happened. We were under an influence..."

The sheriff sighed with disappointment, and replied with;

"I see... Luckily for your sake, no one was harmed. But a large amount of property was destroyed from the fire you guys started."

Cole bit his nails from nervousness, the sheriff continued;

"Under normal circumstances, years of jail time would be administered for the weight of chaos you've caused. But a more serious matter is upon us. Allow my pony friend here to enlighten you."

The sheriff looked to the mysterious pony character, giving her the signal to speak to Jonah and Cole. The pony stepped closer to the desk and said,

"It is an honor to meet you two; I am Princess Luna, the princess of the night on planet Equestria. A horrifying threat had been slithering through my planet for a year now; it is ruthless, and quick. It is a serial killer, murdering countless ponies, mostly unicorns. Many have been hideously slaughtered, including mares and stallions, colts and fillies, you have no clue what sort of pain the countless mothers and fathers have felt whenever I or my sister have shown them their child's pale, dead corpse in a cold, lifeless morgue..."

Jonah and Cole looked into Princess Luna's eyes with extreme concern and sorrow, uncertain as to why she decided to bring up something so horrific. The two had witnessed the demise of children on their adventure, but they never thought of just how horrible those deaths would be in a parent's perspective. Luna continued her speech;

"I've come here because I believe you both are the ones who are capable of putting an end to such an evil. I have watched some of your three year adventure with my older sister, and am highly impressed by what I witnessed. So I ask that you please, follow me back to Equestria, and pursue this danger so that my little ponies may not live in fear, the adults can manage their lives and businesses again, and the children can play in the day once more with smiles."

The sheriff caught the boys' attention and offered;

"If you agree to help Princess Luna here out, you can consider what took place last night completely forgotten."

Luna pleaded to them again with a desperate, but professional gaze;

"Would you please help us?"

Jonah and Cole then spoke at the same time, without hesitation;

"Yes."

Luna gave off a light smile, and responded with;

"Excellent, thank you both. I will be waiting for you outside. Join me once you are ready."

Princess Luna turned and exited the room; the sheriff stood up and unlocked the handcuffs behind Jonah and Cole's backs. An idea sparked in Cole's mind, and he asked;

"Would it be okay if I made a phone call?"

"I don't see any issue."

Cole walked over to the nearest telephone and dialed a number. After a couple of rings the other end answered and he began to talk,

"Hey Halie, its Cole. Listen, Jonah and I are headed out of town for some business, wanna join in?"

Jonah observed Cole as he talked to Halie over the phone, he was unsure if they should bring any friends along with them. After all they themselves knew nothing about the planet this Princess was taking them to. Cole spoke again;

"Sweet! Come on over to the South Island sheriff's office and meet us at the entrance. You may wanna hurry. Okay, bye."

Cole hung up the phone and turned to Jonah to ask;

"You've got no problem with an extra do ya?"

"No, I'm sure we can look after Halie. My main issue is that we know nothin' about this place, it might not even have color TV!"

"Hey, we were lucky with this place right?"

"I suppose. Plus I imagine that we'll stick out more than anyone there, considerin' the population is most likely nothin' but ponies."

"We'll manage, you wanna bring along anyone else?"

"Hm, I could ask Mina."

Jonah picked up the same phone Cole was using and dialed Mina's number. After a couple rings she answered;

"Hello?"

"Mina, its Jonah."

"Oh hey, where the hell have you been?"

"At the jail house, with Cole."

"Oh Jesus, well, whatever you do don't drop the soap. Watch out for Cole he's a big guy, he could wear you out! Haha!"

Cole could here laughs surfacing from the phone speaker; Jonah continued to speak with an embarrassed expression;

"We ain't bein' put away! We've been given a proposition to help this Princess out with a serial killer on her planet, in exchange for droppin' all charges on us."

"Just what did you two do anyway, knowing you two you probably did something real stupid and sickening. Any witnesses to whatever you guys did are probably scarred for life with P.T.S.D. or some shit."

"I don't know! Ask Del, he ought to remember. Now do you wanna come with us or not?"

Mina’s laughs decreased;

"Sure, I'll come. Where do you want me?"

"Be at the entrance of the sheriff's office, try to hurry, we're leaving very soon I think."

Jonah hung up the phone and followed Cole out of the interrogation room to the hallway.

Two young heroes who have braved many obstacles in the past, conquered vicious evils, and laid many corrupt lives to rest. They face a new journey, a journey into the unknown. What sorts of conflicts await them? They haven't the slightest clue.
