Crossing Anthology Two
Arriving
Previous ChapterNext Chapter"Swoosh! And right before he hit the ground, shoom, he- oh hi!"
That's what Jonah heard as he slowly regained consciousness and opened his eyes. He didn't even have to look around to see where the voice came from; there it stood before him, and it was a bright pink pony with a poufy pink mane. She bounced closer and asked,
"What's your name?"
Jonah looked around quickly, trying to find his friends while answering;
"I'm uh, Jonah..."
Cole was nowhere to be found, neither was Mina, or Halie, or Princess Luna. Something clearly went wrong during the transfer. Jonah had arrived in an open meadow; he could see what looked like a town in the distance. The atmosphere immediately came off to Jonah as bright, happy and fresh. The world around him was far different from anything he had experienced in the past.
With no other options Jonah decided it would be best to stick with this character, he figured she may be a helpful guide in this new world. He quickly noticed another pony directly behind the pink one; this one was a light cyan color, with wings and a messy rainbow mane. Jonah greeted himself to the both of them;
“Yeah, I’m Jonah. And you two?”
The pink one jumped a little and said;
“The name is Pinkie Pie, party throwing master!”
The cyan one flew in front of Pinkie, leaving a rainbow trail saying;
“And I’m Rainbow Dash, best flyer in Equestria.”
Jonah sarcastically responded;
“How lovely to know…”
“Pinkie and I here heard a crash coming from over here, we thought we might investigate. You alright?”
Jonah struggled to stand up right, his back cracked as he stood before the two ponies. They were roughly a foot under his height. Jonah responded to the two;
“I’m fine, just fine. So where am I at exactly?”
Rainbow Dash answered;
“This is Ponyville, a small town but trust me. You’ll meet some pretty awesome ponies, like me for instance.”
Jonah rolled his eyes and turned to Pinkie Pie and asked;
“What can YOU tell me about this place?”
Rainbow had a stern look about her as she asked;
“Hey! Isn’t my answer good enough for-”
To which Pinkie Pie interrupted with;
“Oh! It’s super-duper fun! I’ve had loads of fun in this town. Though lately, it seems hardly anyone wants to have any fun, everyone is too scared to even come outside anymore.”
Rainbow used her wings to levitate slightly above the ground. She crossed her fore legs and added to Pinkie’s statement;
“It’s all because of that punk serial killer; he has all the unicorns shook up about even setting one hoof outside. Oh man, you should have gotten a load of our friend Rarity before she went on vacation, just ask Pinkie here, she was a total drama disaster!”
“Dashie! Don’t make fun of her like that. The truth is we were all scared when this all began, it started last year when the killer caught his first victim, a close friend of ours at the time.”
Jonah knowing well enough about what had been happening, responded to them with;
“I’ve heard; your Princess Luna came over to the planet I was on and asked me and my buddies for our assistance in tracking down the killer.”
Rainbow recognized what Jonah was saying from a previous conversation she had with the Princess before her departure, and said;
“So YOU’RE THE one that Princess Luna was clambering over, I don’t get why she didn’t choose any of us, or even ME for that matter!”
“Probably because my friends and I have much more experience in this field. From what Princess Luna tells me, murder ain’t Equestria’s area of expertise… So could you two guide me around here? I wanna become a little more familiar with this place, plus I need to find my buddies.”
Rainbow flew a couple of meters higher. She turned herself in the direction of Ponyville, and said;
“No sweat! If you can keep up!”
She bolted towards the town at blinding speed, leaving an even brighter rainbow trail. Pinkie looked up at me with a slight laugh, saying;
“Good luck keeping up with her!”
Pinkie bounced away in the direction of Ponyville. Jonah, unsure of which pony should be taken more seriously, followed her. Jonah was slightly confused; he would think that everyone right now would be more scared knowing of the recent murders happening around them. Perhaps it was only these two taking things lightly, Pinkie came off to him as being naturally optimistic about any situation, while Rainbow on the other hand just claimed to not be afraid of anything. Jonah was skeptical about Rainbow’s true bravery in the face of danger.
Meanwhile:
It was all dark; Cole stumbled around, knocking things over and bumping into hard objects. The air around him felt stuffy and thick, as if the place he was in had not been touched in years. Suddenly, he saw a tiny light meters away, the light grew more and revealed a stair case leading up and out of the room. Behind the light was a silhouette in the shape of a pony, only slightly smaller than what Princess Luna was. From the light glowing around this one he could tell that this pony was an orange color, her main was a bright blonde, and that she wore a hat of some sort. The pony asked Cole;
“Woah there boy! Whatcha think you’re doin’ in my cellar?!”
Cole approached the stair case, and answered her;
“I was teleported, or warped down here. Sorry, I’ll go ahead and leave.”
Cole walked up the stairs and exited the cellar; he looked around and noticed that he was in front of a large barn. Around him was a field with scarce amounts of grass, however in the distance there was more of it, along with hundreds of acres worth of lush apple trees. The orange pony snapped Cole out of his observations and said;
“You’d better not’ve broken anything down there, we need all the food ‘n resources possible if the serial killer thing gets more outta hand.”
Cole’s attention was caught by what she just said;
“Again, I’m sorry. By the way I’m here to fix that very problem, my friends and I are. So could you just point me in the direction of the closest town?”
“Oh! So you’re the one Princess Luna was talkin’ ‘bout. Then again I should’ve figured the same since you’re one of ‘em human folks and all.”
Cole was curious as to why this pony never took any bold emotions to his appearance, then he thought to himself, “This is a talking pony I’m speaking to…” she had probably encountered much stranger creatures on this planet. Cole said to her;
“Yes, I’m one of the people that will take down this criminal. The name is Coltrane, but you can call me Cole. What’s your name?”
“I’m Applejack, the go to gal here at Sweet Apple Acres. Oh, you wanted to know which way the closest town was, well Ponyville is right down that road over yonder.”
Applejack pointed to a dirt road leading to what looked like a small town in the distance. Cole turned to her and said,
“Thank you, Applejack.”
Cole walked away from Applejack toward the barn exit. As he traveled down the dirt road toward the town, he heard hoof steps behind him coming closer. He turned to see it was Applejack following him, she looked up at him and suggested;
“Maybe I ought to come with ya, no one should be out on the road alone right now. It’s the first time anyone has really felt in danger ‘round these parts. In the past most threats were nothin’ to truly worry ‘bout, but this serial killer is different in way.”
Cole nodded in agreement. Listening to Applejack's country tongue, it sounded remotely similar to Jonah’s West Virginian accent, at least to him. Cole found amusement, and said to Applejack;
“I like the way you talk.”
Until now, murder was one of the many crimes that Equestria was too unfamiliar with. Surely they have dealt with death and loss, but it is possible until now that they have never heard of a fellow pony killing another. They are not use to crimes like this, but luckily the two young heroes come with that very knowledge and experience. What is happening in Equestria strikes these boys with reminders of iconic events in the history of their home world.
