Of the many wonders of the world, one of them is having a family. A son, a mother, perhaps a father, but a family nonetheless. Tonight was the night before Nightmare Night, surprisingly enough, everypony was out and about to get their costumes ready and even do some early scares. It was certainly one of the best nights of the year.

We follow Twilight Sparkle, newly crowned Princess of Equestria, and librarian of the town Ponyville. Since tonight was one of the many nights that she needs to send a letter, she cannot, as it is a rule to not disturb Princess Celestia on this very night. For she searches Equestria for the very thing that I stated at the start of this description, her family, her son.

Though as she spoke to her companion, Spike, something emits a sound of something breaking the sound barrier from above the Everfree forest. The source is unknown, but she had a duty to protect those in Ponyville, so she had to check on it even if her life is at risk. But, what she finds… isn't what she expects, and when the princesses arrive and give her new tasks, it will be much harder than she first thought.

(There are more characters here than what I could put into, such as: Discord, Spike, Princess Cadance, Shining Armor, Zecora, and others as well. Just wanted to get that out there so that there's no confusion for when they do show up.)

Chapter 1

It was the night before Nightmare night, we join Twilight Sparkle as she prepares for another night of tricks and scares. Spike rushes to and fro carrying many things.

After certain orders he then rushes to Twilight saying "Right, got everything done. All that's left is the letter to the princess right?" he then grabs a quill and paper ready to write.

Twilight shakes her head for some reason saying "No Spike, not tonight. Don't you remember what tonight is?"

Spike looks at Twilight a bit confused then smacking his head remembering what tonight was.

"That's right...The princess doesn't want to be disturbed on this night. But...why is that? I forget..." Spike says

Twilight sighs and looks to Spike with nearly glaring eyes saying "Because, nearly seven hundred years ago she had a son. An Alicorn born son as a matter of fact. Somehow, he was taken away from her during the night by two of her own guard. The guards were then put to trail, but not confessing on the whereabouts of Avery, the Princess' son.

And now on every night before Nightmare night, the night of Avery's birth, The princess searches all of Equestria to find him."

Spike rubs his head "How come the Princess can't use her magic to find him?"

Twilight sighs again "Because Spike, he was born an Alicorn. Or properly known as, an Eternal Pony. These ponies, like Princess Celestia and Luna, were born Alicorns and have powers over the elements they are born with. Celestia is the light, while Luna is the dark. They can't be simply tracked."

"And...Avery?" Spike asks

Twilight shrugs "No idea, not even the princess knows for sure."

"Geez...I hope she finds him soon. She doesn't loose hope, that's for sure." Spike says

Twilight nods "And that is one of the many reasons why she is such a great princess. But I am curious about how her son would be. Is he the same? Or perhaps different?"

And with that said, a loud rumble was heard. Soon following by a large boom, coming from the Everfree Forest.

Twilight stood tall and looked to where it came from from her library balcony.

"What in the world was that?!" Spike asks worried.

"I'm not sure Spike, but I need to check it out before other ponies do." Twilight says

She spreads her wings and soon leaps from the balcony, gliding to the Everfree entrance. Fluttershy was outside trying to calm down the critters that was panicking over the unknown sound. While Rainbow Dash was hovering beside the entrance.

"Rainbow!" Twilight calls out

Rainbow looks over to Twilight as she lands, she then says "Yeah, I'm not sure what it is. But there is a large mound of dirt just inside the entrance. I'm keeping an eye on it just incase it does anything sneaky."

Twilight nods and says "Back me up, I'm going to see what it is.." she then walks slowly to the mound of dirt and tree limbs as Rainbow watches, ready to pounce.

Twilight quietly walks to the mound, the forest eerily creaking. As she steps infront of the mound, she feels a sudden increase of heat. She then puts her hoof to the mound and carefully starts to move the dirt around. As the dirt shifts, Twilight could see a faint grey color. She then moved more dirt out of the way carefully, showing a pointy ear and a lock of bright red hair.

She then gasps and says "This is a pony!" She then quickly tries to get all the dirt and tree branches off of the unknown pony. Rainbow rushes over to help her.

Soon as all the dirt and tree branches were gone, and Twilight and Rainbow saw the pony, they both look in shock as it was an Alicorn pony.

Twilight then says "...I-Is this..? ..Come on Rainbow, lets get'em to my place."

Rainbow quickly nods as she and Twilight pick up the Alicorn pony, taking it to the library.

When they arrive, they place the pony onto the bed. The Alicorn had long bright red hair, a grey coat, no cutie mark, and an unusual heat wave was coming from him.

Twilight looked closely at the pony, studying him. She had a letter beside her from the Princess. She opened his eyes to see that he had Brown eyes.

She then suddenly says "...This is Avery?? T-The description of the letter suits him perfectly, let alone the long hair.."

Rainbow looked at Twilight confused, but Spike was in shock as he looked to Avery.

Twilight then quickly said "Spike! Write a letter to Princess Celestia saying that we may have found Avery! Ooooh! This is so exciting!" She says with a grin knowing that Celestia would be glad to find her son safe.

It was nearing midnight, Princess Celestia has just returned to Canterlot castle after another day of searching for Avery, her lost son.

"...I will find you my son. I will not give up until I do. That is a moth-" She says to herself but is interrupted by a letter falling infront of her face.

"...Why did Twilight send me a letter? She knows not to bother me on this day. So why?" She says as she picks up the letter and opens it.

It read:

"Dear Princess Celestia,

Please excuse this sudden letter. But this is important, very very important. While explaining to Spike again about tonight and why we couldn't send a letter to you. A sudden object fell into the Everfree forest. I went there and discovered the object to be a pony.

With Rainbow's help, we got him back to the library. When I first saw this pony, I had to make sure it was him. And he fits every detail in your letter."

"Wait...my letter?" Celestia says and continues reading

"What I'm saying princess, is that we may have found Avery...your son.

Please come as soon as possible!

Your faithful student and princess,

Twilight Sparkle"

With those words read, Princess Celestia dropped the letter and called for a carriage to take her to Ponyville. The guards acted as soon as they heard this order and got a carriage ready for her.

Celestia then climbs onto the carriage and the guards soon take her to Ponyville. Celestia's face was a mixture of hope, happiness, and shock. But she was determined to get to Ponyville as soon as she could to see her son, her son that was kidnapped seven hundred years ago.
