In the city of Canterlot, two alicorns sat in a small, personal room. The day had just ended, and the duo sat on small, round cushions in front of the fireplace, planning a coronation. Celestia, the larger of the two was purest white with a multicolored mane that flowed in an ethereal wind. The smaller alicorn beside her was Twilight Sparkle, until last night a lilac furred unicorn who had just gained her wings.

Twilight Sparkle sighed as yet another suggestion of hers was shot down. It's not that her Celestia was being strict. However, the coronation of a princess was nothing to take lightly, and Twilight's efforts to “keep it small” were all quickly swept away..

Celestia simply smiled at her pupil, her infinite patience coming into play, “Feel free to ask for a break, Twilight. I can ask the chefs to brew up some tea for us.”

Twilight smiled back, “That would be wonderful, Princess.”

Celestia chuckled, “Very well, Princess,” She stood up, now towering over her protege, before walking out the door. Twilight watched, thoughts swirling about her new title. Celestia made it look so easy. She, however, still wasn't sure what she was meant to do. Was she going to be a delegate? Would she get a nation of her own, Like Equestria or the Crystal Empire? She shook her head, willing away the thoughts.

Except that they instantly returned, plaguing her once again. Twilight sighed. How did Princess Celestia handle this when she became a princess? Twilight thought. When she became a princess...how did Princess Celestia become an Alicorn? The new thought quickly took up residence, pushing all other thoughts away. Like everyone else, she assumed Princess Celestia had been born an Alicorn, born into royalty and taught to rule all her life.

But, maybe that was wrong? What if she had become a princess the same way Twilight had? Created new magic, and ascended into the Alicorn state? Before these thoughts could be prodded further, the door creaked slightly, alerting the return of her mentor, “The tea kettle is on, it will be ready soon,” Celestia said. As she opened her eyes, she was met with the twisted face of Twilight, contorted into a look of confusion and deep thought, “Is something wrong?” she asked, walking back to the cushions, concern quickly setting itself on her face.

“Princess...how did you become a princess?” Twilight looked up at her teacher, confusion still evident in her voice. A wave of surprise washed over Celestia's face momentarily, before returning to normal. Twilight noticed, however, and added, “I'm sorry, is that a rude question to ask?”

“Not at all, Twilight. I've just never been asked it,” she smiled, dipping her head down a little, “I suppose it is time somepony knows how Luna and I ascended,” she said, eyes half lidded, with a gaze that was a thousand miles away, “Tell me, how much do you know of the story of Hearth's Warming Eve?”

“It's the founding of Equestria, and the start of all three pony races working together,” she stated, “Why?”

“What about the Fire of Friendship?” Celestia looked down at her pupil.

“It's a spell, born of pure love and friendship, that drives away evil,” she replied.

“The Fire of Friendship was very important in my life,” Celestia said, eyes returning to their thousand mile stare. Before she could continue reminiscing, a knock of the door told the two tea was ready, “You may enter.”

A small field of magic engulfed the doorknob, before it opened, revealing a small mint green chef with an emerald mane, combed back and pushed into a hair net, “Tea and cakes for the princesses,” he announced, taking off the silver top to reveal a tea kettle, cups, and various pastries.

“Thank you, Cool Cucumber,” she said, watching as the light green chef made his exit. The tea kettle's handle was covered in a yellow glow, and two cups were poured. Both were quickly levitated over, one to herself and one to Twilight.

“Thank you, Princess,” she replied, taking the cup in her own magic field.

Celestia took a sip, swirling the cup a little, “Now where was I? Ah yes, the Fire of Friendship. Clover the Clever made it, that night, and it banished away the Windigoes. On that same night Princess Platinum, Commander Hurricane, and Chancellor Puddinghead went back and led their people to what would soon be called Equestria.

They set up tents for the night, knowing that the next day they would work to build a glorious city that all three races could live in together, in harmony. Before then, however, as they set up the tents, my mother was nearly done with her pregnancy. As the shelter was just finished, she rushed inside to the midwife, and gave birth to me...

Author's Note

First chapter, and I'm so nervous about posting this here. ._.; Just, really really nervous. Especially since I can only write like, 1.5k-2k words in a chapter. I don't know how you people who write 6k+ words in a chapter do it!

Oh well, hopefully someone will enjoy this.
