The Travelling Argument
The Saddest Bard in Equestria
Previous ChapterNext Chapter"Maybe she did it for a good reason, perhaps you were in danger, or wounded, or... I don't know!" argued Tex as he tried to get Maboo to stop.
Maboo frowned. "We're in Fillydelphia. Of course I'm in danger. And Valhalla is a he, and he is going to be hurting."
"I thought all ponies were fe... nevermind, I don't get out much, and I'm an idiot." Tex walked to a corner and sat down.
Valhalla came around the hall, staring right at Maboo. "Hello Maboo. I apologize for the sedation, but you left us no choice. You were scaring a lot of ponies."
Sky Runner followed in after him. "Maboo, what the hay's going on?"
Maboo sighed. "If you want an explanation, you might as well bring everyone in here."
Valhalla motioned for Willow and Swift to join them. They all walked back into their inn room and stood around the bed, having Maboo sit down in the middle.
"How are you feeling, Maboo? I'd really like to know," said Willow.
Maboo took a deep breath. "Okay. Well it goes like this. I told you first that I was born and from Manehatten, but that's all I remember. There is a gap in my memories. The last thing I remember after my memories were stolen was being here, in Fillydelphia. I was trapped underground. Literally, buried in the ground. I panicked. I had to scrape my way out by hoof, and was barely lucky enough to find some help. A pegasus by the name of Katana helped dig me out before I suffocated.
"That doesn't explain the whole 'born and raised in Fillydelphia' thing though. Well, it sort of does. What I mean by that is since I woke up in Fillydelphia, it was like being born again. I couldn't remember anything other than my original home. Katana couldn't do much else for me, so she left. That's when I met the unicorn witch, Centeol. She was the one who had me kidnapped and my memories taken away. She had a griffin accomplice, which we saw back in the Griffin Fortress. It turns out he was irrelevant.
"I managed to escape Centeol and her guards, but was basically on my own with nothing to my name. That's when I met Valhalla. He took me to his makeshift shelter and took care of me for a little while, helping me piece together what happened. I left Valhalla in search of who I used to be, and eventually found a job in Las Pegasus. It was an easy one, just some infiltration business. Stealth jobs and sneaking priceless objects out of their place. I didn't think much of it, priceless objects, no one was going to miss those right?
"But then I got caught. I had to sit in a unicorn prison for a few months, and while there I got a tip about the griffin accomplice to Centeol. After I got out I tracked it to the Griffin Fortress. That's when you all found me. I lied about what I was really doing because I was afraid you were also helping Centeol. I assumed Valhalla was also now helping her when he sedated me with that sticker, but I guess he was just trying to calm me down. I'm sorry about my outburst, my missing memories sometimes causes my brain to go all haywire," Maboo sighed. "So yeah... now you guys know."
The group stared at her in shock.
"I'm so sorry, Maboo... I had no idea. If you ever want to talk about it, please come to me," said Willow.
Evening was speechless and in tears.
Even Swift had a tear stream down her face. "Luna darn... makes my story look like a walk in the park," she thought.
"That... that's terrible. Is there anything we can do?" asked Sky.
"No, it's okay. One of these days I'll find the unicorn witch and make her give me back my memories. If I can't do that... well then I'm glad I have you guys to hang with." Maboo tried to force a smile, but it didn't help.
"I apologize for sedating you. I remember when I first met you, though I didn't know the whole story at the time. I'm glad you told us," said Valhalla.
"It's okay Vally. I forgive you. You were only doing what you thought was right, and you were. I can only blame myself for what happened."
"Well, I'm glad that worked out," said Tex.
"Now that the situation has calmed, rest is the best idea for now. We'd only just arrived in the city when this mess began, so I'm sure some of us will be tired from the travel, combined with the fighting two of us did earlier," said Swift.
Tex tensed. "Right.... you all look pretty tired."
"We shall look into the trouble with your sister in the morning. There is no cause for worry, I am sure she will be fine," said Valhalla. He walked into the other room, and could soon be heard meditating.
"Yeah, I'm pooped. That sticker drains your energy faster than doing a thousand backflips. Goodnight," said Maboo, following Valhalla and falling asleep on one of the small beds.
"You know what? Sleep sounds nice. I probably haven't slept in days," said Tex. He curled up in a corner and dosed off.
Swift began taking off her equipment, inspecting it for any damage. She put it aside and crept into another bed and soon fell asleep herself.
Evening curled up at the foot of one of the beds and quickly fell asleep, clutching her staff like a doll.
"Evening? Wouldn't you be more comfortable in one of the beds?" asked Willow. But Evening was already deep asleep. "I guess not." She pulled out a blanket from her pack and laid it over Evening.
Willow walked through the inn and made her way outside. Looking up at the stars she began to pray. "Sisters, we are about to embark on a dangerous mission. We are all skilled, and we have numbers... But we are going into the unknown. Please watch over us, and give us the strength to save Tex's sister. Good night, Luna. May you bring sweet dreams to me and my friends."
