The Colors of the Moon - A LunaDash fanfic
Hello there!
This is my first MLP fanfic, so please be easy on me :)
I know many of you don't ship LunaDash, but for those who do, huzzah! I'm not alone!
Enjoy!!!
A cheer rose up from the Ponies of Equestria as the three Princesses walked forward, onto the balcony, lead by the new Princess TwilightSparkle. Her eyes widened and her lips formed A shy smile as she saw all the ponies stomping their hooves in her approval. Luna chuckled to herself and shared a glance with Celestia as Twilight waved to the ponies. Once they, too, were this excited about being a princess. But now, it had become a part of their everyday routine, the duties of royalty weaving themselves into their lives.
RainbowDash, Fluttershy, Rarity, AppleJack, and PinkiePie were all inside the palace, "backstage", If you wish, grinning and squealing, all extremely happy for (but a bit jealous of) Twilight.
After a speech made by Princess Celestia, the trio walked back inside the palace, leaving a festive crowd of ponies continuing to celebrate the arrival of Twilight Sparkle.
The Princesses and the five ponies joined the mane celebration in the Palace ballroom, where they started to mingle with each other and the other guests.
Luna turned towards RainbowDash, her blue mane sparkling with the stars.
"RainbowDash, right? Element of Loyalty and friend of Twilight?" Luna asked Dash who nodded, before she continued. "And - if I am correct - Pony Vill's, and maybe even Cloudsdale's, most talented flier?"
"That's me!" RainbowDash responded proudly, sticking her chest out and raising her sky blue head. "I am the fastest flier of both those places you mention! Not only that, but you are looking at the one and only mare who can make the impossible possible - I can make a Sonic Rainboom!"
"You are quite a boaster, aren't you? Well then, I'm sure a race against me will not be hard at all! What do you say, Dash?"
The blue mare swallowed hard, but she wasn't one to back down from a challenge.
"You're on, Princess-"
"Luna. Is just fine. Now, follow me. I do hope the Everfree forest doesn't frighten you... If so, we can always just cancel the race and call it a-"
"Nonononono! Everfree forest?" Dash laughed nervously. "Pfhht, not a problem. "
Luna smirked and galloped away, not checking if RainbowDash was following.
Rainbow looked back at the party one last time, at Rarity scolding AppleJack about some petty thing, and was off, following Luna out into the Palace gardens.
"The first mare to the Statue of Fright wins. No rules. Winner wins an immense boasting right. On your mark... Get set... Go!!!" Luna almost shouted, her hind hooves kicking off the ground, and was up in the sky in no time, dodging clouds as RainbowDash tried to keep up with her. Dash sped faster and faster than she had ever flown before, breaking the sound barrier in seconds, and was ahead of Luna who got pushed back by the wave of rainbow. Dash laughed as she sped ahead with newfound energy, but soon enough Luna was beside her, breaking the sound barrier three consecutive times. Blue waves shot through the air as Luna sped ahead. Dash could feel herself slowing down, but the forest was already below us, the peak of the marble statue that marked the finish line visible through the dark canopy of leaves. It was about ten seconds away, but Luna was already halfway there. Dash, determined to win, shot through the sky as fast as her tired wings could, but just before she could catch up to her competition Luna burst forward and reached the finish line.
Dash dropped to the ground, panting, her wings too tired to even hover, while Luna looked like she hadn't even broken a sweat.
"You were mighty close. But, alas, I won." Luna said with a grin. "Now come, let's fly back. No race this time. I want to get to know Equestria's second most talented flier. Next to me, of course."
Luna started to lift off but noticed that RainbowDash was too tired to follow. With a sigh she flew down beside her.
Luna's horn started to glow a metallic blue as her magic enveloped Dash. Once her horn stopped glowing and her magic stopped, she saw Rainbow smile.
"Wow, that was awesome! Thank you! Now, about that flying..."
And the two mares were of, flying back towards the castle as the sun set, pink, orange and red streaking across the horizon, painting the palace in a soft, warm glow.
