Chapters Rainbow Dash sat at her desk, the only piece of furniture in her house not made of snowy white, and in one case snow cold in the matter of her fridge and freezer, cumulus. A pencil in her mouth and a writers block in her skull.
"Urgh!" She put her head in her hooves, groaning. Why couldn't it be easy to say?! Those two words. Those two tantalising, teasing words at the top of her page. The words that she dreamt of. The words with so much potential.
'Dear Fluttershy'
She could write a letter well enough. Confess her feelings, understand if she doesn't feel the same way but when it came to signing it and revealing her identity her hooves would shake, her wings flap madly and she would take several deep breaths and then scrunch it up and try again.
She had nearly mailed about 26 of these letters each time putting it off to another day but this time she was determined to finish it and mail it. Just like every other time.
Dear Fluttershy.... Fluttershy... Her buttercup yellow fur... Sakura blossom mane... Her cute laugh.... Everything about her made Rainbow want to hug her. And... Some other things.... "Ehem!" Back on task! Rainbow mentally scolded herself. You will never get to even hug her unless you mail this letter! Unless she hates you for liking mares, or rejects you or you never tell her how you feel!
Rainbow thought back to her love...
She remembered when she'd made the tornado that had saved Cloudsdale for another year, she smiled fondly at the memory of her telling a dragon off but most of all she longingly gazed at the memory of her ascending to Cloudsdale after she'd fallen off on a wave of beautiful butterflies and birds that dispersed the moment she walked off it, a grin on her face and her cutie mark on her flank. Dash couldn't help but think, it was that moment that she fell in love with the filly with the pink mane and coat as yellow as a sunbeam. Oh, that and that Fluttershy was about 20% cooler that RD would ever be.
But this letter was killing her!
She collapsed in a head of cyan shame! This is like one of those online forms you had to fill out with the end name box with
"Anonymous" written in that you never change... Wait! It is just like that!
New inspiration coming to her in a flash she scribbles down her new letter on a new sheet of paper. After five minutes of intense dramatic writing she took a hoof back at what she'd written.
Dear Fluttershy
Your coat gleams in the sun like a ripple on a pond in the dawn
Your eyes are lighthouses guiding me through the storm of my heart
Your laugh rings out like the beautiful wedding bells of a midsummers eve
Your smile is like a diamond caught in the grasp if the moonlight
Fluttershy, I love you
And with a flourish the Pegasus signed it, sealed it in an envelope, flew out to the mailcloud took a shuddering breath and dove past the point of no return. She mailed it. Slowly her heart stopped pounding as she stared at the mail box. It occurred to her that Derpy wouldn't empty it till tomorrow and wondered if it was right to sign it as she did.

With a flushed muzzle Fluttershy quickly whipped her head round to see if anyone was around but of course it was only her and Angel asleep on the couch opposite her.

Fluttershy sighed unhappily. Love. It had always been a rather unfair subject for her. While her friends around her found it, sometimes in each other, she remained to shy to even approach her crush.
Yes, that's right. Crush, she Fluttershy had a crush. Never more than one. A crush. No, not a crush, the one she loved.Her first, her last ,her everything .
Her Rainbowdash.
She'd hardly seen her at all lately, which only added to her heartaches. She was stuck. Trapped between what the community wanted or what she wanted. She was a very selfless person, it was a joke that she should be the element of kindness and generosity. She wanted to be what everyone expected, but her love for Rainbowdash occasionally cause her to brush a stray tear from her eye. That, and the fact that she was afraid that everyone would make fun of her and maybe her friends would hate her forever. Fluttershy didn't know if she could take it, that or rejection.
Rejection from Rainbow... nooo.... Images flashed through her mind. Dashie landing strikingly after repairing the bridge, defending her honour in a race, perfectly executing the "impossible" sonic Rainboom. She'd loved Rainbowdash from the very beginning and would continue to do so until she died. Even when they met, filly Fluttershy had taken a sharp breath as she looked at the most beautiful thing she had ever seen....
In the meantime she had a letter to respond to, though the hoof/mouth/hornwriting was strangely familiar....
Anyway, better respond ,she thought, I would hate to be rude....
After a minute or two this is what she had

"There" she said. Feeling proud of her work. "Now just to find an envelope and..." Facehoof! She didnt know their adress and it would confuse the mailponies greatly if she adressed a letter to somepony called Anonymous...
Taking to the air she sighed.
"Ahhh well I supsose I'd better bin it in the morning" Elegantly gliding to her bedroom she lightly placed the letter on her windowsill "*Deep breath*... *yawn!* goodness that was loud... goodnight Ponyville...Goodnight Rainbowdash...Goodnight Anonymous.." She smiled as she said he/she/its names and quietly fell into a deep slumber.
Moments after she fell asleep a cyan hoof stealthily took the letter from the windowsill and tear drops silently dropped onto the otherwise perfect letter, smudging the word, Fluttershy
In the dead of night, Rainbow Dash punctuated the silence with sniffles and the occasional sharp sob.
Wiping away her tears she stared at one part of the letter that kept drawing her attention and calling forth the tears from her eyes.
I already have somepony in mind
I knew it.., I tried too late..., the heartbroken Pegasus wept ...
But you didn't really try did you? A sneaky little voice in her head sang, you didn't even have the guts to tell her your name!
Imagine, the mighty Rainbow Dash, brought to earth by a letter, and you call yourself a daredevil?!
"Shut up!" She screamed at her ceiling, her voice scratchy from crying."Just... Shut up..." The last part so quiet that even Fluttershy would have had problems understanding it.
It was then at this point that a certain tortoise entered the room, awoken from his slumber by his "mother"'s earlier outburst.
She tried to hide her face in a cloud, but he had already seen her bloodshot eyes and tearstained sky blue coat. Speeding up to his max he rushed to her side. But this took too long and so she just came and picked him up by the shell and then flew back to her bed.
He raised gave her a concerned hug and silently asked her, what's wrong mom?
Sighing unhappily she replied aloud, oh Tank *sniff* I'm heartbroken
This he had definitely not been expecting but he managed to maintain his usual poker face and nodded to gesture she should go on
RD blushed at this point and Tank definitely knew something was up." Well Tank... Ya know how some mares like... Other mares..?
Tank nodded, thinking he knew where this conversation may be going
She took a deep breath, this she had never shared with anyone." I'm one of them."
Most people, their expression changed in a matter of seconds, with a tortoise, especially a half asleep one, it took a while.
It started at point zero, concerned, then blank incomprehension, then confusion, then shock, then more confusion, then he fell off the bed.
"Holy Celestia are you okay Tank?!"
Sloooooowly he climbed back onto the bed and then nodded surprisingly quickly, now fully awake.
Anxiously she clopped her hooves together , "Are you angry?"
By way of response he lovingly licked her face.
"Thanks buddy" she hugged him to her chest, tears plopping from her eyes onto his shell.
After a moment thy parted and Tank made an expression that implied,
So? Who's the lucky lady? and drew a heart in the air while shrugging as only a tortoise can shrug.
"It's ummm... Ehh... Go to bed Tank!" Blushing furiously she buried her head in her pillow, with forced snores emanating from her muzzle.
Understanding that he would get no more out of his mother tonight he hugged her and went back to bed.
When she was sure her son was gone she got out of bed and set her rump down at her chair, pulled a piece of paper from a stack on her desk and set about a reply.
