Recompense

Derpy mindlessly wandered the across Equestria, since she didn't have to go into work today. She had been given the day off since, she had managed to get most of her deliveries to the residents of Equestria correctly. It wasn't often that Derpy had the chance to go out and do whatever she wanted, she often spent free-time trying to figure out ways to make her job easier since she often found herself going in circles. Mainly her eyes were at fault, but sometimes the areas she was delivering to had no landmarks or had a similar look to another neighborhood she delivered to. Anyway, Derpy decided she would go about the town to see if anyone would like to spend time with her.

Derpy found herself wandering about a field, one that she recognized that Rainbow Dash often practiced at. Derpy looked up, and spotted the blue pony with multi-colored hair performing tricks in the sky. Derpy couldn't help but watch in awe, she always found it so amazing how determined Rainbow Dash was to get into the WonderBolts. Derpy knew that even if she walked away right now, Rainbow Dash wouldn't have known that she was there at all. Mainly because she was so focused on her training, her eyes never drift from the space straight in front of her which confused Derpy since she didn't know exactly what Rainbow Dash was looking at. Derpy thought if anything Rainbow Dash would look at herself, to make sure her positioning was right. Rainbow Dash eventually stopped to think about ways of improving her skills when a shout from Derpy suddenly disrupted her thoughts. "Hi Rainbow Dash!"

Rainbow Dash looked down and caught a glimpse of a gray mare that was grinning up at her. Rainbow Dash floated down to greet the fellow Pegasus. "Hey Derpy,"she replied. Rainbow Dash's eyes stared at the part of Derpy's mane that fell in between her eyes, rather than directly into Derpy's eyes. Derpy hated it when ponies did this to her, but she couldn't blame them. Since her eyes didn't look in the same direction, ponies weren't sure which one to make eye contact with so they stared at some point on her face near her eyes. "How's training?"Derpy asked, trying to ignore the other pony's pathetic attempt of trying to make eye contact. "It's going great!Anyway,what's up?"Rainbow Dash said in a rather proud tone."Oh..Uh,I have the day off today so I was wondering if you wanted to hang out or something?"Derpy asked,smiling. "I'm sorry Derpy,I can't right now.I still gotta train!Maybe later,okay?"Rainbow Dash replied flapping her wings slightly lifting herself off the ground. Derpy frowned but nodded."Okay,see you later I guess"Derpy mumbled as Rainbow Dash turned her attention back to her training.

"No matter!I'll go look for someone else to spend my time with!"Derpy said to herself as she flew over a forest. Derpy kept flying until she came to a sudden realization that she didn't know where she was going. Derpy began to panic so she tried to touch down in the forest to somehow figure out how to get back,unfortunately it ended up with Derpy getting stuck in a tangled mess of branches. Derpy attempted to dislodge herself by squirming around but found hard for herself to even close her wings. Derpy's mind became flooded with concerns. Not only was she lost but she couldn't free herself. Would she able to get back somehow? Would anyone come and find her? Will she die here? Suddenly Derpy heard a small voice come from somewhere she couldn't see. "Oh...Um...Do you need help? "It asked."Yeah, I'm stuck up here."Derpy replied still scanning the ground below her so see the pony that asked her the question.The voice was so quiet that Derpy couldn't quite make out who it was,but whoever it was sounded like they were standing far away or something. "S-stay right there..I'm going to try to pull you out from above."It told her. Derpy tried to nod as best as she could.A couple minutes later Derpy heard the snapping of branches above her head,then a pony wrapped her arms around Derpy and pulled her up out of the mess of branches.The pony let go and Derpy flapped her wings to stay in the air.Derpy turned around to see a yellow pony with a long pink mane that covered up part of her face."Thanks so much."Derpy said to her,genuinely grateful for the pony's help.Derpy didn't know her name since she had only seen this pony and never spoken to her,all Derpy knew was that this pony within a little group of friends with Rainbow Dash and some other ponies in Ponyville."Oh..Uh..You're welcome."The other pony responded shyly.Derpy knew that she should probably repay the pony somehow, but wasn't sure how to.Derpy thought that maybe she should give her some muffins, but then her mind started to entertain the thought of possibly spending the day trying to make friends with the pony.

While Derpy was thinking her eyes drifted slightly more apart than normal, worrying the other pony. "A-are you alright?"she asked waving a hoof slowly infront of Derpy's face."Oh!I'm sorry!"Derpy said her eyes returning back to their definition of normal.Derpy stuck out a hoof to the mare. "I'm Derpy nice to meet you!"Derpy stated with a smile. The other pony smiled back warmly and shook hooves with Derpy,"I'm Fluttershy.It's nice to meet you too."Derpy wasn't all that surprised that Fluttershy's hoof-shake was very soft rather than firm like most ponies. There was a couple minutes of silence, neither one of the ponies knew what to say. It was Fluttershy who barely broke the silence. "So..Um..How did you get stuck in those branches?"She inquired. "I got lost,"Derpy admitted."So I was going to land down there so I could think of ways to get back, or maybe find an earth pony that could help. But I guess I chose the wrong place to land,I didn't think that there were would be so many branches,"Derpy finished."I'm sorry to hear that...Would you like me to help show you the way back?"Fluttershy offered."That'd be great!"Derpy said while grinning.
