FLASH POINT

Chapter One:

Bumping Into Each Other

Uncanny.

That was the only word Twilight could think of to describe the moment: Uncanny. The whole thing ran through her mind over and over as she lay uncomfortably in bed, Spike snoring happily in his Rarity-fueled dreams.

"We have got to stop bumping into each other"

Twilight found herself sighing in lust as  a smile ran across her restless face. The vision of Flash Sentry lingered in her mind for what seemed like hours before the moment when she saw him continued. They both reached for the cup...

CRASH!

The sound woke Spike at the same time it made Twilight jump nearly out of her bed. Twilight, after a few moments to catch her breath, went outside to find the bright orange guard she had just - technically - been dreaming about. Sure, he was a stallion and not a man, but he was still the embodiment of the man Twilight knew she loved.

And at the hooves of Flash Sentry laid many pieces of a priceless vase, strewn across the floor. Flash looked down at the vase, then at Twilight, with terrified eyes. If either of the Princesses saw this mess, he would be on the street (Or the moon) in a matter of minutes. Twilight knew this too, and she knew she couldn't let it happen. She gave him a comforting look.

"Please help." said Flash, "I'll make it up to you however you need me to, just please help me get out of this."

Twilight could hear the hoofsteps of one of the princesses coming down the hall. "Don't worry," Twilight said as she gave Flash a wink, "I have a plan."

Celestia came around the corner, to find Twilight sitting over the vase with her head down. Her bedroom door was open just down the hall, and Celestia didn't know Flash was hiding just inside the doorway. "Twilight?" Celestia asked, "What happened?"

Twilight stood up, and nervously turned to her mentor. "I don't know what happened, Princess! I just came into the hall, and my wing must have bumped it, and.."

"Alright, alright." Celestia said comfortingly, "It's fine, Twilight, you still have to get used to your wings. Now, get some sleep."

"Yes, Princess." Twilight said as Celestia turned and exited down the hallway she came from.

Flash came out once he knew he was out of earshot. "That was quick. Thank you."

"No problem," Twilight said, blushing a little.

"Well, if there's anything I can do to make it up to you, please let me know. You got me out of a lot of trouble just then. I can't stress enough how thankful I am."

"Please, it was nothing! Don't mention it."

"I'm sorry, Princess, I can't do that. You saved me. I have to repay you. You name it."

Twilight blushed.

Flash blushed back.

"Well, uhh" Twilight frantically fumbled, trying not to make the moment any more awkward, "What can you do?"

"If you must know, my mother was a baker, so I'm no stranger to an oven myself, in high school I played guitar, and I was the third fasted Pegasus in my graduating class."

"Interesting. I wouldn't have taken you to be a baker." Twilight felt the awkwardness of the previous moments melting away.

"Nobody really does. They're always surprised when I tell them. But, beside that, what can I do for you, Princess Twilight?"

"I'll sleep on it, Flash." Twilight said putting her hoof on his shoulder, "I'm very tired, and I'll tell you what you can do for me in the morning." Twilight pulled out a yawn to drive her point home.

"Yes, right, Princess." Flash said, "I'll guard your room for you." Twilight wasn't sure, but she thought she saw Flash pull off a sly wink her way.

"Thank you, Flash. Good night."

"Good night, Princess." Flash replied as Twilight went a few yards down the hall to her bedroom door. She entered and closed the door behind her as Flash stood guard right outside. Spike was fast asleep again, and Twilight got into her own bed, the events of the past few minutes making it easy to forget about her wings, and drift into her fantasy dreams.

Twilight awoke in the morning to find Flash, still standing vigilant outside her door. Well, I say "Vigilant", but the truth was, he was just waking up as well. He tried to mask it when Twilight came out the door. He jumped up to attention, saying, "Good morning, Princess."

"Good Morning, Flash." Twilight said kindly.

"I thank you once again for helping me out of that, *Grunt*, mess, last night. Let me know if I can do anything for you."

"Well, actually, Flash, who do you serve under?"

"Captain Armor, Princess."

"Perfect. Do you happen to know where he is now?"

"Yes. Captain Armor is in the barracks. He's preparing the second division for The General's arrival."

"Really? General Pinto's coming here?" Twilight asked. General Alexander Pinto is the commanding officer for the whole Equestrian Military, let alone the Canterlot Guard. She wondered why such an official military man would be visiting now?

"Yes, Ma'am." Flash said. he dropped his hoof from his head, "You see," he leaned in close and whispered to Twilight, "There's a rumor going around that Canterlot is going to get hit by something big. Celestia and Luna have been chatting with other officials for the past few days. Me and the other guards think it's the Deep Hive Changelings, but everypony else believes it's something small. Be on the alert." This time Twilight knew she saw a wink from the guard this time, but this time not as sly, and more of a wink of warning.

Twilight gave the guard a salute, he saluted back, and the Princess was on her way to the barracks.

She needed to talk to her brother...
