Years ago I had a dream.

It was a simple dream that most ponies today would just shrug off a few minutes after they wake up.  Such a dream could be easily forgotten throughout the course of the day during, or even before, the boring tasks that lay ahead.  Ponies would know that the dream couldn't amount to much, and besides, that's all it was.

A simple dream.

I was just a foal when I had it.  A colt of no more than three or four years old.  Truth be told, I didn't understand a whole lot of it.  I just knew that it was another dream that I would soon forget once I woke up, but somehow......this felt different.  Instead of watching from the sidelines of some epic quest like I normally would, I was sitting alone in a rather dark room.    There wasn't much to see in that room, just two chairs with a table in between.  Nothing else.  The shadows around me seemed to call my name, and being a young colt, I had a very wild imagination.

That's another thing.  I was actually aware of my surroundings, as well as of myself, in that dream, which is strange since I'm normally not.  I could actually feel the floor below me and I could see around the room with my own eyes, but I could also sense strange things in the shadows. I was scared, and I was alone.

At some point in the dream though, I'm not sure when, I was visited by a strange mare.  She glowed with a sort of holy light and made the shadows disappear.  I was no longer scared, nor was I alone.  We sat down in the chairs together and we just.....talked.  Just like that.  If anything else happened in that dream, I forget what it was, but I still remember that mare, and I remember what she told me.

Ever since that night, I dedicated my life to studying the aspects and the workings of dreams and their meanings.  My dedication led to my getting my cutie mark at an early age, which is nothing more than a broad blue Z.  I was made fun of for having such a strange mark.  "Sleepy Zeke" they called me, partly because I told them that it meant I liked to study dreams, and partly because I fell asleep in class a lot due to my late night studying.  Did this bother me?  Only a little, but not enough to deter me from my path, which eventually led me away from that place.

Once I was old enough, I took off on my own in search of the one that I knew would help me.  I know this, because she told me herself.  I had to find the mare in my dream.

Despite everything that I had studied and learned, I somehow knew in my gut that the dream mare was real and not fake.  I knew it was possible to walk in another's dream, even though that kind of magic can only be used by one being that we know of, but it is because of that fact that I knew she had to be out there.  The Princess of our night couldn't be the only one who can move around in another's dream.

For years I had searched for her.  Those who knew of my quest believed I was a mad man and that she doesn't even exist, but I know better.  I know because of what she told me.  I know she is out there, somewhere, waiting for me to call her name.

Today, I am coming close to finally finding her, to finally holding her in my hooves.  I want to see her again, once more, if only for a second, I want to see her again.  When I find her I will tell her of my journey, of my hardships and of my trials, and that everything she told me has come true so far.

Once I find her and I call out her name, I will finally be able to dream again.
