Chapter 1: Just another day
As I scrolled down what must have been the fiftieth page on 4chan's random board I've browsed today, I saw one in particular that made me do a double take and then laugh out loud. "Hehe... hey Vincent! Take a look at this!" I called to my friend who was in the living room. "Be there in a sec!" he called back. I clicked on the original post in order to view the full thread. My friend walked in my room. "What's up, man?" I turned the computer monitor so he could have a better look at it. "Ah... Hahahahaha! Oh Christ! That's fuckin' amazing!" he said within laughter that was harder than my own reaction.
My name is Matthew but my friends usually call me Matt. I live in a one story house about twenty minutes away from the collage that me and my best friend Vincent attend- Glendale Arizona community collage, in case you're all wondering. Vincent doesn't live here but he does visit my place quite often enough so it might as well be his home too. 4chan is a website we visit often, usually to laugh at whatever hilarious images people are lucky enough to find and to troll all the newfags. What were we laughing at? Well... you really don't want to know. It wasn't trolling, that much I'll say. 'You guys had a fucked up sense of humor, don't you?' To answer, yes. We did. But did we give a shit? Like hell, we didn't.
"Alright well that's enough internet for today," I commented while shutting down my laptop and closing it back up. Vincent went back to the living room, still chuckling about what we just witnessed. I glanced outside. It was getting dark earlier and earlier. 8:05 and it's already complete sundown. But I suppose that is what happens in the fall season, after all. Funny thing is though, I never even thought about it until now. Today is October 10th, 2010, speaking of which. Yea, I know what you're thinking. Halloween season is starting. Neither of us really care for it though. We outgrew it years ago. Like when we were fourteen. I personally say that even at that age it was a little late to quit trick-or-treating. I mean, it's for fucking kids and we were teenagers. But I digress...
I went back to the living room to see what Vincent was even doing. He was watching Sports Center football again. Heh... figures. I went to the kitchen to get myself that last bit of cheesecake I made for a party about a week ago. Vincent looked up at me. "By the way, did you ever hear back from Shaun? I still wanna know if we're hanging out next weekend." Oh yea. I knew I was forgetting to do something. I fished around my jeans pocket for my cellphone to check my messages. Nothing new from anyone. Even Shaun "Nothing... Maybe he's just taking it easy tonight." Vincent rolled his eyes and scoffed. "Play a single prank on someone and ya never hear the end of it, I swear to god..," he muttered. I almost laughed out loud. "Umm... yea, I don't think that's it." Vincent waved his hand dismissively at me. Well then.
I took a closer look to see which game he was watching. It was the New York Giants against the Houston Texans. Oh yea... I had forgotten that I recorded that one earlier. I had meant to watch it later but I guess Vincent got impatient. He was at the part where it was about to be halftime and the Giants were killing the Texans 24-3. Yikes. Well I guess I don't even need to continue watching to see how that one would turn out. Nevertheless, I took my cheesecake and sat in the living room with Vincent and watched the game. "Hey do you think I can crash here tonight?" Vincent asked me. I gave him a funny look. "What's wrong with your place? It's not that late." Vincent shrugged. "Yea I know but my neighbors are setting up their Halloween shit again and I really don't feel like being there for that." I nodded, understanding his situation. His neighbors were nice people but sometimes they could be a little... too much, to put it nicely. Especially during the holidays. "Riight... forgot about that. Sure. Guest room's yours." Vincent got up and went towards the guest room, apparently no longer interested in the football game. I couldn't blame him for that either. I was never for one sided games, myself. "Thanks man. I owe you." I rolled my eyes. "Yea, just go ahead and add that to the hundred more favors you owe me. It's no big deal." Vincent flipped me off without even facing me. You can definately tell that we're best friends.
I picked up the remote and fast fowarded the game to the end. It looked way too one sided for us to keep watching it so I was going to see what the final score was and then delete the recording... Yup. There it is. 34-10. Though I kinda expected the final score to have a much wider gap considering the halftime score, I can't say I'm surprised. I also can't say with a score like that, the game will be very exciting to re watch. I deleted it. Well that takes care of that I guess. Almost immidiately afterwards, my phone started to vibrate. I pulled it out to find I had a new message from, guess who? "Hey Vincent?" I called to him. "Yea?" he called out back. "Shaun says he's free to hang out at the mall this Saturday. He's got nothing else planned." I said, reading what Shaun had said. "It's a date then!" he said, nonchalantly. I had to let out a chuckle. You and your randomness, Vincent, I swear... and then my thoughts were interrupted by my phone vibrating again.
Another message from Shaun? I took my phone back out to see what it was. Sure enough, it was him again. But this time, he wanted me to check out some website. Goddammit Shaun, when I say enough internet for one day, I mean enough internet for one day! Groan... whatever. Might as well. I clicked the link he texted me but for some reason, it wouldn't let me on the website. Not even when I typed it in manually. Great. I was going to have to get back on my computer. Goddammit Shaun... I went back to my room and opened my laptop back up. I didn't actually shut it down. I had just put it into suspended mode by closing it, like I usually do, so getting back to the browser took less time. The browser opened and yahoo started up. My homepage website. I didn't even type one letter of the website adress before something caught my eye. Someone made an article on... My Little Pony? I didn't go to the full arricle but I skimmed through the summary. Apparently, the My Little Pony series was getting rebooted and the first episode aired today. I rolled my eyes. Okay, Transformers getting renewed, I could deal with. I mean I thought it was pretty cool when I was a kid. But apparently just one renewed franchise is never enough. Well fuck you too, Hasbro. Whatever... I mean I could easilly avoid it. It wasn't a big issue.
Now to see what Shaun wanted me to check out. I typed in the web address and noticed as I was typing it that it was some sort of forums website. I pressed enter and was redirected to a website called neoseeker. Well okay... I read the first post. Someone had posted a whole bunch of information on the new Pokemon games that were going to be released soon. This instantly got my attention. I was a pretty big Pokemon fan and I was pretty excited to learn that there was a fifth generation. I mean, I learned that it was going to be made a few months ago but until now, I hadn't seen anything about it. I only knew of ots existance. I read through the whole post (which was pretty damn long) to find out everything I could. Pokemon Black and White was gonna be released in March 2011, huh? Okay, I guess that's not too long a wait. I read through all of the information and looked at all of the screenshots. I was pleasantly impressed. I was now even more excited to play this game when it got released. Well, I didn't even realize how much time I killed looking at all this new information and searching more until I looked at the clock. 10:27. Damn. I really had to close my laptop and go to bed for the night. I had classes tomorrow and I barely got any sleep last night.
I shut off my laptop and got ready for bed. But I guess my brain wanted to be extra obnoxious today because when I was actually in bed, trying to go to sleep, I began thinking about the new My Little Pony again. Damnit brain! I'm supposed to be going to sleep! Quit filling my head with stupid and pointless shit like that! It's annoying enough that such a thing exists without you making me think about it! That's another thing. Oh god... When this gets a few episodes in, the little kids that are everywhere you go when you go out to places are going to be extra unbearable. I've seen a few episodes of the earlier versions of My Little Pony, much to my misfortune, and I swear, you couldn't find worse shit anywhere. And now they're remaking it... but then again, I was probably making this out to be way worse than it actually is. Yea, there was no way a TV show like that could be that popular. So running into annoying child-fangirls was unlikely. Thank you brain, for actually rationalizing things, for once. I pushed those thoughts away completely and they didn't resurface again for the rest of the night.
