It was 9:30 in the morning, the school day had begun a few hours ago. The outside of the school campus was quiet, empty and peaceful. Along the sidewalk that seemed to stretch on for miles besides these never ending streets walked a single student. Tall, light ash gray with sunglow colored eyes, his hair was choppy and long, long enough to cover his left eye but it also had a choppy look to it.
He wore a black long-sleeve t-shirt. The sleeve's were white and the black shirt itself had a rather urban design of skulls and flames. His pants were also black, at the very bottom of the legs, torn to shreds from ether being stepped on too much or being purchased in that style. His shoes were white and black in a checkered design on the top along with regular white laces , the sides being black with a single white strip running along it.
The student walked before the very entrance of the school, not far behind him was a statue of a horse. He took a deep breath, wrapped his fingers around the straps of his backpack than walked on inside. The inside of the lobby was void of any other students, just its display cases and other school themed decorations. Reaching into his pocket, the boy pulled out a crumbled piece of paper that read "right hallway from the lobby, make a left then 3rd door on the left." These were the directions for the principles office.
He walked to the right and down the hall, following the directions exactly as they were written down. Of course, 3rd door on the left was labeled "Principle Celestia's Office." The door was opened so he went ahead and walked inside, "H-Hello?" He said, seeing nobody at first.
Suddenly from pretty much out of nowhere a woman stood up, "May i help you?" She asked.
"Uh, im lightning flash?..i just transferred here"
"Oh lightning! I've been expecting you, please take a seat," She gestured to a chair in front of her desk.
Lightning sat down, feeling pretty awkward too. He was terrible at meeting new people, especially teachers..
"Let me personally welcome you to canterlot high!" The principle was trying to make it as warm a welcome as she possibly could, probably understood how much it sucks having to transfer.
"Uh thanks..pretty big school." Lightning looked down and played with his thumbs.
"Well considering how many students we hold here it must be the appropriate size." She smiled, being gentle and easy. I bet she wont be like that the next time he is in this office.
"Ill probably get lost trying to find my classes.."
"Would you like a tour?" The principle asked, she began to get up from her desk.
"Sure, may help me a bit.." Lightning stood up and adjusted his backpack, he knew he wouldn't shake this awkward feeling today.
"Follow me," she said walking right out of the room, to which lightning slowly lagged behind.
She took him down various hallways, pointing out which wing it was or whatever. He wasn't really listening, but when they got to the gym it caught his attention..looks like they were playing dodgeball today. "And this is the gym, coach spitfire would be your teacher if you have any gym classes..actually," Principle celestia stopped and reached into her pocket, unfolding something. "I have your schedule right here, looks like you have several gym classes. Care to meet coach spitfire while we are here?"
"Sure.."
Celestia and lightning walked into the gym which was currently a warzone. But as soon as the principle entered, coach spitfire blew her whistle and everyone stopped what they were doing. Lightning looked at coach spitfire, he couldn't help but grin, nothing better then a hot teacher. she was wearing a blue track jacket with a white sleeveless tee underneath, and some gym shorts. "Principle celestia, what can i do for ya?"
"Spitfire, this is lightning he is a new student here and actually has you next period." Celestia put her hand on his shoulder, he appreciated the hospitality but it felt weird also.
"New recruit huh? Well kid we got a rule in my gym class, we break in the new guy!" Coach spitfire grinned mischievously, put her arm around him and led him to the right side of the gym. Students ran to the sides, laughing, chuckling and looking at lightning like he was dressed like a clown.
Some students pulled out their cellphones and began to record it even, Principle celestia looked very uncomfortable with this but spitfire does it to EVERYONE so its not like he's being singled out. "Stand right here, and try not to get too battered up. Got it?" Coach spitfire walked off the court before lightning could even say anything. The students on the other side of the gym were holding dodge balls in their hands and laughing or taunting.
"Uhhh...whats going on here?" Lightning said looking over at coach spitfire.
She reached for her whistle, held it close to her mouth than shouted as loud as she possibly could. "FRESH MEAT!" She blew on the whistle then suddenly lightning found himself trying to dodge an onslaught of rubber balls. He danced all around trying to dodge every single one he could, students laughed and shouted comments, spitfire even shouted. "C'MON TWINKLE TOES YOU CAN DO IT!"
Just when it seemed like it was over though, a blue girl with rainbow colored hair began to walk forward, she had a huge grin on her face and a chant rose behind her. "Crush him, crush him, crush him, crush him!" They all shouted. The girl then leaped forward and with all her might threw the ball straight at lightning, to which he couldn't avoid and received the ball full force right into his face. The sound of the ball hitting him silenced the gym as it echoed throughout the room. Only to be followed by a "Oooooooooh!" Some covered their mouths while others fell on their backs laughing as hard as they could.
"Pfffheheheh..whoops" the girl said walking over to lightning, who was on the ground holding his face. He was groaning in pain.
She stood before him, looking down and trying to fight back laughter. "Uhhh, heheh..s-sorry man," The girl held out her hand, lightning took it and she pulled him to his feet.
"You throw hard.." was the only thing he was able to say
Coach spitfire walked over and patted lightning on the back, "Welcome to canterlot high, champ" she said patting him on the back.
Principle celestia walked over, she looked concerned and had perfect reason. "Was that necessary?" She asked.
"Everyone has to take their lumps, its canterlot high tradition!" The girl said.
"Well..lets get you some ice for that than ill show you the rest of the school."
"Ill do that principle celestia, show him the ropes!" The girl said putting an arm around lightning and pulling him close to her side, as if they were friends.
"Well...I do have some things to attend to, be nice to him rainbow dash and actually SHOW him around." She handed lightning his schedule.
"Got it!" Rainbow dash nodded.
"Heh kid, c'mere lets get some ice on that cheek. You took that like a champ!" Coach spitfire said as she walked over to a cooler that she had for some reason just off the court, pulling out an icepack and tossing it to him. Lightning caught it and held it to his face, it was cold and burned, but felt so good against the throbbing pain that filled his face.
This is probably the oddest initiation or whatever you wanna call it to a school lightning has ever had. He was a canterlot wondercolt now though, might have a new friend too if rainbow dash is as polite as she seems.
An interesting girl
Principle Celestia left the gym to take care of whatever business she had to attend to. This left Lightning alone in gym with Rainbow dash, the girl who just a moment ago left a shiner on his face. He was a good sport about it though, managed to laugh about it even though it felt like he just took a punch from a professional boxer.
"Again, sorry about mopping the floor with your left cheek," Rainbow patted lightning on the back with a smirk.
In response he just mumbled something to himself, even he was unsure of what he had said. The pain was eventually numbed by the ice pack that coach Spitfire had given to him. The pack was kinda warm by now anyway and had served its purpose, Lightning walked over to the cooler that was specifically there because of the injuries Rainbow had been known to inflict, tossing the ice pack back inside than walking away.
"You don't talk much do you?" Rainbow crossed her arms, looking at Lightning as he walked by.
"Not really,"
"Well why not?" She turned around.
"I just don't, people don't like me okay? Most people I've met have just..never liked me," He sat down on one of the bleachers, and let out a very deep sigh.
Rainbow looked at lightning, "Hmmm..I think," She walked over and sat next to him. "Its not that people don't like you, you've just never met anyone you like."
That made much more sense, it seemed rather impossible for lightning to be unliked by everyone. He just continued to look at his feet, probably thinking to himself. Rainbow patted him on the back, "C'mon its almost lunch time anyway"
Thank god, lightning was starving and just wanted to explore the school some more. The students seemed friendly which was reassuring to the new guy. The bell rang, lightning followed rainbow dash out into the crowded hallways. Being new did draw attention, a few looks here and there from someone but nothing too extreme.
When he walked into the lunchroom with rainbow dash, he got a good glimpse at just how divided this school was. Each click, sitting together in perfect harmony with absolutely nobody who didn't belong joining them. A typical highschool when you got down to it, this is how teenagers function. How humans function actually, just sticking with the people they are like.
Lightning followed rainbow in the lunch line, however she noticed that he wasn't grabbing a tray or any food.
"Uh, you gonna eat anything lightning?" She sounded a bit concerned, but just slightly.
"Nah," He gently shook his head. "Ain't hungry.."
"Well okay then," Rainbow took her lunch and headed for her table, the sport jocks.
Since lightning knew absolutely NOBODY else at this school he decided to just follow rainbow wherever, it was the only thing he could think of. However when he sat down, everyone at the table shot him a look. They knew he didn't belong here, and so did he.
"Uh, can we help you dude?" One of the guys asked.
"Its cool guys he's with me, new guy! Names lightning," Rainbow gave lightning a pat on the back.
"Hey," Lightning wasn't really looking at anyone at the table, it was just too awkward.
"New guy huh? Where you transfer from?" The same guy asked.
"Manhattan highschool, had to move out here where its cheaper to live on your own though."
"Cool." The guy turned his head and began talking to his friend over sports or whatever, lightning wasn't really listening anyhow. He was looking at all the different people, a few happened to catch his eye. One girl who was wearing a pair of shades or goggles or something with an awesome blue hairstyle. She seemed like someone lightning would get along with.
Another person who caught his eye was this southern looking gal, had the cowboy hat and all. She looked very nice, the next person who caught his eye was this girl with a really crazy pink curly mess ontop of her head, and she was hyper as could be. The last one who caught his eye, was a girl sitting all by herself. She had long pink hair, lightning was interested.
"Who's that?" He pointed to her, leaning towards rainbow for an answer.
"Her? Oh thats fluttershy, known her forever." Rainbow took a bite from a hotdog that she had picked out back at the lunch line.
"Why is she all by herself?"
"Thats just how she is, she's extremely shy. So she just sits by herself."
"Im uh, gonna go talk to her kay?" Lightning got up from his seat.
"Alright, but be back here before lunch ends!" Rainbow gave a sporting grin.
"Got it." Lightning nodded and began to walk toward where fluttershy was sitting, lightning always felt obligated to talk to a person who was alone. He was just that kind of person, as he approached the table he noticed that fluttershy was humming a little tune and smiling away, she didn't seem to care she was all alone.
"Hi.." Lightning said which immediately caused fluttershys smile to disappear and her to stop humming her little tune.
"...H-Hi.." She began to cower into herself, she seemed to be afraid of him.
"you okay? You look like you've just seen a ghost.." Lightning looked genuinely concerned, he's never seen someone this shy before.
"I-Im...Fine" Fluttershy said in a very gentle hushed voice, lightning had difficulty hearing her properly.
"I'm lightning flash, and you are?.." He knew her name already but it would be kinda creepy to walk up to someone you don't know and say their name.
"Fluttershy.." She cowered into herself even more, she said her name so quietly that if he already didn't know that he'd have to ask for her to repeat herself.
"Fluttershy? Nice to meet you...May i sit with you?"
Fluttershy gave a gentle nod, to which lightning sat on the opposite side of the table, trying to be gentle and easy so he wouldn't come off as aggressive.
"Im new here..so im just trying to make some friends."
Fluttershy didn't reply, she just stared at her tray, fiddling around with some fruit slices with a fork. This was extremely awkward.
"So um, care to tell me about yourself? I mean if you want to anyway." Lightning scratched the back of his head.
"I-I like animals.." She looked up from her tray for the moment being.
"Oh really? I like animals too, my favorite animal is a dog..whats yours?" Lightning smiled a tiny bit, this would get a conversation going.
This did help alot, fluttershy looked up from her tray entirely, lifting her head up and all. "My favorite animal is a bunny, but i love all animals actually.."
"I had a pet bunny when i was little, named him spots. which in retrospect makes no sense considering he was an ordinary white rabbit" He chuckled to himself.
Fluttershy smiled, "I have a pet bunny..his name is angel."
"Awh, thats cute."
"I got him at the animal shelter..i work there after school, but we need more people there to help. But nobody wants to.." She got a sad look on her face from saying that.
"Ill lend a hand if that will help at all." He adjusted his bangs which had flooded his eyesight.
"Really?!" Fluttershy burst alive with energy. "Oh thank you so much! You have no idea how much this means to me! Oh hold on i have a flyer in my locker i can give you with all the information!" And just as quick as her energy had came, she was out of the lunchroom in a blink of an eye.
Lightning couldn't help but laugh at how adorable that was.

Hey everyone im really sorry im not updating my stories very often, ive just felt so horrible lately. My depression is out of control i keep getting these sudden sick feelings and its just preventing me from being able to do anything productive.
