"What is it now, Mrs. Glow?"
Two alicorns, manes flowing with magic, stood in the office of Golden Glow's Academy for Young Unicorns, irritated at Golden Glow's hesitation to, as the saying goes, 'spit it out'.
Golden Glow shifted her hooves and her yellow gaze looked to the floor. "Er, your daughter, Ms. Breeze.... she destroyed an entire classroom trying to cast a teleportation spell."
The alicorn mare rolled her eyes and groaned, predicting how her husband, the stallion standing beside her, would react.
"But her grade doesn't even teach transportation spells! Does it?"
Golden Glow shook her head. "No, I'm afraid not." The unicorn sighed. "She told us that was simply trying to get her cutie mark. I can't help but feel sorry for the young mare; the other fillies tease her because she hasn't received it yet."
The alicorn mare's eyes widened. "The other fillies... tease her? How come you didn't tell us that before?"
Golden Glow sighed. "It's not my place of authority to complain to a parent about a filly that is not their own child."
The stallion shook his head in disgust. "But you just did! And it just so happens that I have the authority to do so! Where are these fillies, or at least tell me how to contact their parents!"
"Flare! As parents, it is not our place to complain to their parents or interrogate the fillies.What we must do is teach Midnight to stand up for herself," the alicorn mare declared matter-a-factly to her husband.
Flare snorted, yet kept quiet, and the mare turned back to the principal. "Thank you, Ms. Glow, for your time."
And with a glow of their a horns and a gentle poof of magic, the two alicorns were gone.

In a palace sitting several blocks away from the academy, two young alicorns sat in their bedroom, the younger black with a purple mane, and the elder orange with a red mane.
The younger was sobbing into the elder's orange coat and had obviously been crying for a long time. The elder cooed with sympathy towards her younger sister, and slowly the younger calmed until the only sound she made were little hiccup sobs and sniffles. And after another slow amount of time, the younger looked up at her elder sister, her purple eyes red from the tears.
"Sunrise," she started. "Why do we have to be the princesses? Why can't we be normal ponies?"
Sunrise picked up a brush from the dresser with her magic and began to brush her younger sister's tangled mane. "Someone has to take the job, Midnight. If we weren't, who would be?"
The younger sister smiled. "That's why I think you're awesome, sis.You always have an explanation for stuff."
Sunrise smiled shyly. "Not always. Remember that time you asked where babies come from? Mother had an answer that time."
Midnight giggled. "I guess you're right. But my point still stands. Speaking of which, where do babies come from? I can't seem to remember."
Sunrise widened her eyes nervously. "Uhhh.. why don't you ask Mother or Father when they get home?"
"Where did they go anyways?"
By this time, Sunrise had finished brushing Midnight's mane and proceeded to do so with her own.
"I don't know," she said with a shrug. "Something to do with an accident at your school."
Midnight shifted her hooves. "Oh, yeah. That."
