The Mimic
Reflections
Previous ChapterSugarcube Corner, the best provider of sweets and cakes in Equestria. Also home to Ponyville’s happiest citizen, Pinkamena Diane Pie, or as her friends call her, Pinkie Pie. But what happens when the happiest pony in town isn’t accepted as a friend? The town isn’t so happy anymore. The Mimic happily trotted around Ponyville, looking for something to do. She couldn’t find anything worth doing, so she just sat next to a fountain and stared at her reflection in the water. She made funny faces and messed around with her mane a little bit to try and see what looked good. Eventually she had ended up with a puffy mane that reminded her of cotton candy. She smiled happily and stared directly into the eyes of her reflection. Or was it her reflection? The eyes of the pony in the fountain were blue. Hers were red. She shook her head in disbelief that her eyes had somehow changed colour. She was right. There was not only one reflection in the water, but two. The Mimic tilted her head as her hair fell flat once again.
“Reflections sure are funny to mess around with, huh?” The Mimic’s eyes widened as she realised that she was being talked to by a reflection. “My name’s Pinkie Pie! What’s yours?” The Mimic’s eyes and mouth were opened wide. “Umm… Hello? I’m up here, silly!” The Mimic looked up. The pink pony was standing in front of her on a part of the fountain. “So you’re new around here, huh? Nice to meet you! I’m Pinkie Pie, but you can call me Pinkie! All of my friends do, and you’re my new friend! What’s your name?” The Mimic just sat staring at the smiling earth pony in front of her. “No need to be shy! Say something!” The Mimic blinked twice. “So you don’t like talking then… That’s OK! My pal Fluttershy doesn’t like talking either, but at least she told me her name! Come on! I’m dying to meet you!” The Mimic looked at Pinkie with a stern face. “Pretty please?” The Mimic shook her head. “Pretty please with a cherry on top?” The Mimic continued to stare. “Say something! Please!” The Mimic opened and closed her mouth. No sound was heard. “Can you even talk?” The Mimic shook her head. “Oh! That makes much more sense! What’s your na- I mean, can you draw your name on the ground here?” Pinkie pointed to a flat plot of dirt. The Mimic looked at the dirt, then at Pinkie. She tilted her head in confusion. Pinkie gasped. “What?! You don’t have a name?!” The Mimic slowly shook her head. Pinkie leaped down from the fountain and landed next to The Mimic. She closely inspected her from all angles and placed a hoof on her chin. “Hmm… Your coat makes me want to give you something snow-related, but your mane and eyes don’t… And your cutie mark…” Pinkie gasped again. “You have no cutie mark either?! Wow… We have got a LOT to work on here!” The Mimic stared at Pinkie. “So your eyes are red… Like cherries! And your hair is black…” Pinkie gasped a third time. “How about Black Cherry Ice Cream?! Because your eyes are red like cherries, and your mane is black, so that makes Black Cherry. Your coat is white like snow, and snow is cold! Like ice cream! So that makes Black Cherry Ice Cream!” The Mimic shook her head. “Oh… You know what? You’re right! That name sucks! Why would I even consider that? How about… Black Cherry Snowcone?” The Mimic shook her head once again. “Black Cherry?” The Mimic declined. “Cherry Snow?” The Mimic shook her head again. “Oh, you’re one tough cookie! Hmm… How about Black Snow?” The Mimic was about to refuse, but this was going to go on forever and the names weren’t going to be getting any better than this so she nodded. A wide smile spread across Pinkie Pie’s face. “Yipee! I have a new friend! And I named her! Black Snow it is!” Pinkie tackled her new friend with a hug. Black Snow broke free of the hug and pushed Pinkie away. She shook her head. “Y-You… Don’t wanna be my friend?” A large frown spread across Pinkie’s face and tears filled her eyes. Black Snow shook her head. Pinkie’s hair turned straight. “But I thought… We were gonna be besties…” Black Snow furiously shook her head. Pinkie began to cry. “I-I… Sorry!” She ran away crying. Black Snow silently sighed. Ponies in the area were staring at her with disappointed faces. Black Snow stared back and growled without making a noise. They shook their heads and walked away angrily.
