King Sombra, a unicorn with a heart of no sympathy nor mercy was turned to shadow then was defeated when he rose a second time, But when he returns he has a different trick up his sleeve which endangers not only the crystal empire but the pony he targets to get out of his way to cause weakness to its new rulers. But with a recently recruited guard as a witness he may have an obstacle in his way.

Chapter 1- The witness

As the moon inched its way up the silent dark sky a dark mist slowly flowed towards the crystal empire, leaving a trail of black crystal floating to the ground and a silent cackle of laughter. As the mist progressivly gets closer to the castle it slices through a pillar while flowing to the window of cadence and shining armour throwing the castle into a slight lean with a loud screaching of crystal scraping together. As the damaged pillar alerts some pegasi guards to go investigate the silent mist slips easily into the chambers of the sleeping prince and princess with a swish of the curtains and a click of hooves as the mist starts to merge into the shape of a pony.

"yessss..." hissed a dark armored unicorn as his hooves slowly tiptoes to the bed with a slight squelch of recent water vapor in the air "sleep my little slaves....for soon I will have you under my control"

As he makes his way to shining armors side of the bed his body starts to slowly melt into a red glowing orb as he progresses, whilst changing he starts to dissolve into the sleeping unicorn slowly consuming his thought and memories as Sombra starts to take control of his body. As he finishes eating away at shining's soul a Pegasus guard walk in to check on the two.

"W-WHA-" stutters the guard as he see's the evil king seep inside of Shining "What was that!?"

The guard slowly trots up to the bed staring at shining armor with suspicion and fear, as he studies the unicorn his hoof hits a crystal spinning it off deeper into the room with a loud clatter, waking cadence.

"W-wha- what's going on, why are you staring at Shining Armor?" Cadence asks sleep heavy in her voice.

"P-princess Cadence!! The guard stutters a wave of fear washing over him " n-no reason just doing my night watch and checking on you two! Incase of trouble that is!"

"uh-..huh...well, ok....but keep it down some ponies are trying to sleep! snaps cadence as she flops back down onto the pillows.

At that the guard quickly nabs the crystal and gallops out of the room, questioning everything about what he just saw, the one thing that lay heavy on his mind though was the green glow of the shadowy unicorns eyes that seemed all to familiar to the young stallion.
