The Blurred Rainbow

     I stood outside, or should I say underneath the giant cloud fortress. The one with rainbows coming out the top. It was already late. “Rainbow, get down here, we’re going to be late!” I heard a crash and then she was flying above me.

     We had agreed to go to this party because the bartender had created something called the sonic rainboom. At least that’s what I had said. In reality I had gone to be closer to Shylight. She had gone with some really pink pony and I was going to talk to her. I walked along with Rainbow hovering beside me. “This is going to be so awesome! I got my own drink named after me, they say its even rainbow colored!” exclaimed Rainbow Dash. I halfheartedly tried to show my enthusiasm but I have never been much for alcohol. We got closer to the center of town. The bar was near the dress boutique and was a very popular place at night. I could hear the music from the place already. It was loud dubstep and electronic, probably something from Vinyl. I walked toward the line that had formed outside. We would be in this forever I thought. Then suddenly as Rainbow moved toward the line, the line made way for her and then I. Impressive I thought. I held the door for Rainbow and then walked inside.

     The first thing that hit me was not the noise or the blinding rotating lights, but the amount of ponies in the building. Because sweet bucking Celestia there were a lot of them. The bar was crowded and so was the floor. I walked in and followed Rainbow. We walked over to the bar. I looked around for Shylight but didn’t see her. I was about to walk into another pony when Rainbow grabbed my attention. “Hey, I got you one”, she said handing me a clear cup which surprisingly looked rainbow colored. I levitated the cup to my mouth. I took some in my mouth and immediately spit it out. It was so strong and so bad that there was no way I was drinking that. I looked at Rainbow, she had already finished hers. I gave her mine. She knocked it back in a few minutes. I looked around for Shylight and still didn’t see her. I looked back at Rainbow but she wasn’t there anymore.

     I made my way towards Vinyl. I knew her pretty well. I walked my way around a fair share of ponies. When I finally got to the spin table I saw her. Snow White pony with headphones on, her eyes obstructed by some huge glasses. I wasn’t all that surprised to see Octavia next to her. Octavia was a brown earth pony. She always wore a small bow around her neck. “Sup, Inkwell!” Vinyl called out. She had a rainboom in her hand. So did Octavia. They were giggling like school fillies. It was obvious that they had drunk a bit too much. “You going to be ok?” I asked. They both looked at me and giggled. “Yes, I believe we will be just smashing” said Octavia starring rather seductively at Vinyl.

     I walked away from those two when they started nuzzling each other. I still couldn’t find Shylight or Rainbow. Well some party this turned out to be. Then she appeared. Right in front of me. With a drink in her hoof… I walked up to her. You can do this I said to myself. “Hi, Shylight”, nothing. Ok I tried again but louder this time. She turned around. Shylight was a dark purple earth pony with a black mane. “Oh, hi Inkwell.” She spoke with the voice of 1,000 angels. “Hello, how are you?” “Good and you?” “Great” I responded.

     So after a while I realized Shy wasn’t drinking a rainboom. We had been talking for well over an hour. The party was still going strong. I just kept talking and learning and making little mental notes about her. I still hadn’t seen Rainbow since the beginning of the party. But knowing her, she was either bragging about her success or she went home with some guy. The only thing that I needed to focus on though, was Shylight. “So, you want to go get some coffee tomorrow?” I asked. I heard a crash, then a bang, and finally a smack! I moved my way towards the crowd and was immediately hit by a rainbow colored blur! I was on my back and I opened my eyes. I saw Rainbows eyes in front of mine. She stood up and looked at me. I stood up and looked at her. She wobbled and couldn’t fly straight. Rainbow Dash was wasted.

     I excused myself from Shylight. Rainbow just couldn’t stay away from the drink could she? She must have had at least 6 or 7 because she was half talking and half mumbling. This was just great, my only shot tonight and Rainbow got drunk and ruined it. I got Rainbows attention. She stumbled as she walked up to me. “Rainbow, we need to get you home” I said. She looked at me and gave this half smile. “Oh, so you want to go home with me, huh?” I took her hoof and started walking towards the exit. We got to the corner of the room and she spoke up again. “Hey, why not we just do it here?” Before I could answer she pinned me to the floor! “Rainb-aghhgh!” She had pressed her lips against mine. She backed off for air. “No stop, get of-aghhgh!” she started again. She came off for air again; I had to think of something quick. Then it dawned on me. “Rainbow, don’t you think it would be better to have multiple people?” I would find Vinyl and Octavia then dump Rainbow with them and get back to Shylight. She just looked at me and nodded.

     I got up and took Rainbow by the hoof and practically dragged her toward the booth. I caught sight of the booth and saw no one was there. The music was still going so Vinyl couldn’t have gotten far. Rainbow must have noticed I was staring at the booth cause the next thing I know she started making jokes about making music with Vinyl. Well at least she’s buying it. I walked up to the booth and peered over the side. What I saw didn’t really surprise me. I should have seen this coming. Vinyl and Octavia were immersed with each other. Rolling on the floor, holding each other, kissing, and grinding. Well now what, I’m totally bucked…

     I had to pull Rainbow to the exit. Where was I going to take her? What were her other friends names again? Futashy, Fluttermac? Fluttershy! She lived in a cottage near the everfree forest. I will take her there, and then her friend will take care of her. I opened the door and dragged Rainbow out. Rainbow wanted me to wrestle her. I kept refusing but she kept asking. Finally she gave up and stumbled next to me. We walked a good ways down the path until we reached the cottage. I walked up to the prepared to knock when a noticed a note on the door. It read:

Gone for two weeks, be back soon.

                                                           Fluttershy

Well there’s only one more place for her to go. I shivered as I looked back at her.

     I was basically holding Rainbow at this point. We kept walking through the brisk night. My house was toward the middle of town. We were getting close. Rainbow started mumbling. I blocked it out. More mumbles. Then she started crying. “What’s wrong?” I asked. “Nobody likes me.” She sobbed. “Well I like you, and so does your friends, and probably the wonder bolts.” I comforted. “Really?” she asked. “Yep” I said as we walked toward my door. I opened my door and dragged Rainbow upstairs. There was only one bed and I put Rainbow in it and tucked her in. I walked down stairs and took the couch for myself.

     The next day Rainbow stayed at my house. She had the biggest headache ever. She threw up everything and just wanted to die. I fed her and let her sleep here another day. She left the next morning. I will never go to another party again I thought as I drank my coffee.
