The New Pony in Town

Thunder Shock woke up very late. It was nearly noon. He went into the kitchen for brunch, there was a box of donuts on it and a sticky note on top that said, "Go ahead Thunder Shock, you can have one. Love Lyra." So he decided to grab a doughnut and eat it. Mmm powdered sugar. Thunder Shock decided not to watch TV now, it was late and he should probably start a job. He opened the door and paused with the remaining doughnut halfway in his mouth. A white alicorn was standing outside.

"Thunder Shock, I have heard from my most faithful student. You have potential, you have power beyond belief."

He quickly swallowed the rest of the donut. "Wait, what?" he said very confused.

"You must come with me."

"What? No. Why? Who are you? Come with you where?"

"You must, we can't afford you being corrupted. And I am Celestia, sun goddess of Equestria and the most famous princess. You must come to the Equestria castle. There I shall teach you how to properly use your magic."

"Um ok, how will I get there?"

"Climb on my back." Celestia said as she turned around and lowered her haunches so Thunder Shock could get on easier. "But watch those hooves."

Thunder Shock climbed up and sat on Celestia's back. The second he sat down, Celestia darted into the air and she flew to the castle. When they arrived, Thunder Shock climbed down.

"Ok, now what?"

"Follow me." Celestia demanded as she started heading down a seemingly endless hallway.

After a couple minutes, they arrived in a room with a bunch of stuffed dummies and targets set up.

"Show me what you can do with magic so far." she said as she made a chair appear and sat on it.

"Um, ok then." he said and looked around. He focused on the chair Celestia was sitting on and started levitating it as high as he could. Thunder Shock made Celestia, chair and all, rise about 20 feet before he ran out of energy and let her drop. She saved herself at the last second and set herself down so it looked as if Celestia never moved.

"Is that all?" she asked.

"Yeah, that's it." he said panting.

"Oh dear, this is going to be hard. Lets start off with a basic attack spell."

"Wait, I have to learn magic combat?"

"Yes, you never know when an evil being arises again and my guards aren't powerful enough, anyways. To cast this spell, you focus all your power, not energy, on the tip of your horn and imagine that target getting hit with extreme force."

Thunder Shock looked at the target. He focused his energy and imagined the target getting thrown across a football field. He continued this for about 15 seconds. "It didn't work!"

"I said focus strength, not energy!"

"Oh, ok." He focused all his strength and imagined the target having a hole ripped through it. After a few seconds. A disc of pure purple energy launched from his horn and ripped the target in half. "WOAH, did I do that? It wasn't like that before right?"

"No sir, you did that. And that was not the spell I was expecting. You cast a more advanced battle spell, razor disc."

"What? No way, just a few days ago i couldn't even levitate a book 10 feet!"

"You learn fast. Twilight was right, you have potential. You are the most powerful unicorn I've ever seen."

"No way, really?"

"Yes, some of my guards who have been training for years can't cast a spell that powerful."

"What next?"

"A shield spell."

"Oh god."

"Steel your nerves. Still your body. Tense up slightly. Focus on your horn. Imagine a bubble around you."

Thunder Shock braced himself like he was about to take a strong blow. He imagined the bubble, but made of steel. After a few seconds a bright light blinded Thunder Shock through his closed eyes. After a few seconds, he opened his eyes and looked. His spell succeeded.

"Ok Thunder, now I'm going to test your shield's strength." Celestia said as she shot a bolt of energy at the shield. When it hit, the shield jiggled a bit but held firm. "This time a bit more powerful." she said as she struck again. The shield rippled at the contact point but didn't rip. "Now I'm going to try a horn attack." Celestia backed up a bit and lowered her head. She charged at the bubble at full speed. She struggled a bit but eventually her horn ripped through the bubble.

"How was that?"

"That was amazing. I gave you one of my most powerful spells and an all out assault with my horn. You would be an amazing guard." She stood for a few seconds looking down at Thunder Shock when she collapsed.

Thunder Shock caught the monarch. "Are you ok?"

"Yes, yes. Just tired, that shield was powerful."

"Now, a self levitation spell."

"Oh no."

"Focus on yourself as you would focus on that book in the hospital. Imagine your body tied to some balloons lifting you into the sky. don't be amazed if you can't do this, it takes tons of energy."

Thunder Shock slowly breathed out. Then took a deep breath. He did as he was told and shut his eyes. The more he focused, the tighter his eyes shut. After a while, he felt his hooves lift off the ground. When he was off for about 10 seconds he dared to look. He was about 5 feet in the air, then his magic cut off and he fell. He landed on his side.

"Oh my, are you ok?" Celestia said as she rushed over.

"Yeah, just a little sore." Thunder Shock struggled to get up for a bit. When he was up he rubbed his left shoulder.

"You sure? I could cast a quick healing spell."

"Yes, that would be nice."

Celestia's horn glowed a dull red and Thunder Shock started feeling better.

He tested out his shoulder for any soreness. "Thanks." he said.

"Anytime. Now, its getting late. Would you like something to eat before you go?"

"Sure, what do you have?"

"Is a ham sandwich ok?"

"Put an apple on the side and add a glass of milk and sure."

"Ok, here." Celestia said and she used magic to levitate the food into the room and onto a table next to Thunder Shock.

"Thank you Celestia." he said with a slight bow of respect.

"Eat up and I'll take you back to your girlfriend's house."

Thunder Shock spit out the milk in his mouth. "Shes not my girlfriend."

"Oh, sorry, I just assumed, you live there after all. She has feelings for you and I sense you have feelings for her."

He took a bite of his sandwich to avoid further conversation.

he finished after a couple minutes.

"Want me to take you to Lyra's house now?"

"Yes please, thank you."

Celestia let him onto her back and flew off to Lyra's house.

When she arrived, she let Thunder Shock down.

"Good bye Thunder Shock, I wish you good tidings until we meet again." Celestia said as she flew back to her castle.

"Bye Celestia, thanks for the lessons." he shouted at her disappearing figure and waved.

Then the front door opened and Lyra stuck her head out.

"Hello Thunder Shock." she said with a smile.

"Hello Lyra." he replied with a grimace.

"Come in, come in."

Thunder Shock stepped in and looked around. Bon Bon was sitting on the couch watching TV.

"Who is it Lyra?" she asked.

"Its Thunder Shock." Lyra replied watching as Thunder Shock walked up to Bon Bon and sat next to her on the couch.

"Oh, I see, I'll just leave you two alone." Bon Bon said as she went into her room.

Lyra went over to the couch and sat next to Thunder Shock.

"I heard that Celestia was training you in magic today." Lyra said.

"Yeah, I think she wants me to be her personal guard or something, she kept saying I was better than her guards." Thunder Shock replied.

"Thunder, this is serious. If the princess wants you to be a guard, she will have you as a guard."

"What?"

"Yes, she will stop an nothing if she thinks your good enough, and by the sounds of it, she will destroy Ponyville if she has to."

"No, there has to be something we can do, I don't want to be a guard working all day every day and never getting to see you for long enough to be sent back to my world."

"Well, there was one pony who she wanted so much she nearly vaporized Trottingham."

"Did she get him?"

"No. She decided not to after he demanded to stay with his family. He really loved his wife and daughter. He said he would rather die than never see them again. So she let him stay."

"So all I have to do is find someone I'd rather die than live the rest of my life without seeing?"

"Or completely fail at training tomorrow."

"Well, I'll think about it, in the meanwhile, I'm exhausted, see you in the morning." Thunder Shock got up and walked to his room.

"Oh Thunder, taxes are due soon, so we need some more bits, you need to get a job soon."

"Wait, isn't this yours and Bon Bon's house?"

"Yes, but you will be here indefinitely so its your house to, so you take a third of the bills."

"Oh, I see. Well, good night." he shut the door, lied on the bed and fell asleep.
