Prolog
Hi, I'm Night Wrath and I am the second guardian, fighter, and protector of the night. Not many ponies know me for I only come out at night and sometimes in the day. You know Princess Luna is my Mom and that I don't really know who my parents are. This story I am about to tell is about how she became my mom.
Chapter 1: The Attack
Date: Fourth Month of the Second Day, Year is unknown
“RUN! THE RAIDERS ARE BACK!” said somepony out of nowhere. I was only 5 years old when the raiders attacked my town of Hayfield. They came marching in every month to get their monthly pay from the mayor, but this time he didn't pay.
“Look I don't have your money! We are broke, so many ponies left that the town couldn't fund you guys. I'm sorry.” said the Mayor.
“Well then, we will have to take the town for ourselves then.” said the lead raider with a sly look on his face.
“No, y-you can't!” the Mayor cried.
“And who is here to stop me? Your protection won’t be here till tomorrow and that leaves us time to burn this place down and leave with what you have. Boys, kill everypony here and burn this town to the ground!”
He turned to the mayor and gave him an evil look. “You're coming with me.” he said as he dragged him out of the town. Screams came from the town, they searched house by house and killed everypony they found. My mom and dad grabbed me and hid me in their underground cellar and put boards over the trap door. The door to our house burst open and they drug my parents out. All I heard was their screams as they were brutally murdered outside. I couldn’t stop to think about it as the smell of smoke came lingering down into the cellar as our home was burned down.
“N-no.” I said as I began to tear up. “M-mom. D-dad.” I started to ball my eyes out as the screams of the rest of the town stopped. I heard the raiders slaughtering them all and the small crackles of the left over fire.
I wiped my eyes dry and tried to push on the door, it wouldn't move. I went to the back and found some food. Bread, water, and some jarred apples. I ate some food and went to bed in a corner.
The next day the sounds of commands and movement came from above, it sounded as if the protection had finally arrived. I got up and ran to the trap door and yelled for help.
“Guys, come quick! I think there is a survivor!” one said as they galloped over the wreckage and began moving the charred remains of my home to find the source of cries for help. The door was opened and there before me stood four royal guards that came from Canterlot. I walked out and looked around to see hundreds of other guards, all wearing sturdy looking gold armor, searching for other ponies, but it seemed as if I was the only survivor.
“Hello there little one.” the guard said, “I'm Lighting Sword, what’s your name?”
I gazed upon his tall stature as I nervously said, “N-night W-wrath.”
“Well nice too meet you Night Wrath, where’s your mom and dad?”
I stopped and winced at the question, as memories of the day before came back and brought tears to my eyes, “T-they a-are d-dead...” I said as I cried.
Lightning Sword took his wing and wrapped it around me and hugged me tight, but gently and for the first time, I felt safe. “I'm sorry Night, but don't worry, you are safe now.” he said as he teared up some, trying to hide it from me.
Soon, a loud voice came from nowhere. “Lighting Sword! The report!” We turned around and saw Princess Luna right there looking at us with a commanding look in her eye that changed to curiosity when she saw me. “W-we found one survivor my princess!” he replied as he stepped aside to reveal me to her and I wasted no time to hide behind him again.
“Where are her parents?” Luna asked as she looked at me and then back to Lightning Sword ignoring that Lighting Sword had been tearing up a bit.
There was a brief silence as he looked down at his hooves with a grim face.
“I see, keep up the search. There has to be somepony out here that can take care of this foal.”
“No pony is left ma’am. We’ve completed all our searches. Her parents must have hidden her to save her. Even the mayor is dead.” he said as he looked at Luna.
“We must report back to Canterlot at once. Lighting Sword, you and half of your men stay here just in case the raiders come back.” Luna said with a gloomy look on her face. She looked at me then began walking towards me. I looked at her and began to coware behind Lightning Sword more, avoiding her gaze.
“Would you like to come with me little filly?” she asked with a soft, gentle voice.
I looked at her puzzled, then looked at what remained of a once bustling town and said, “Y-yes.”
“Come then, we must go at once and get you to safety. Follow me to the carriage.” she said, putting a single wing around me, assuring me that I was safe from harm as we turned to the path.
I looked at what used to be my home then what was left of the town. I slowed down walking, as I began to think of the past again only to be snapped back to reality by Luna’s soft voice, “Come along little one.”
“Where are we going?” I asked as I caught up with her with a very curious look.
“We are going somewhere safe. We’re going to Canterlot. You can't be alone and there seems to be no pony in town left to take care of you. So I am... I am taking you with me and you shall live with for the time being until we find you a more suitable home.” she said as we got into the carriage and took off.
As we began leaving, I looked behind one last time at my home. Memories of friends, family, and relatives come swirling back, bring more tears to my eyes. Luna noticed this, as she put her wing around me again and pulled me close to her side. For the first time since last night, I had a powerful cry as I sobbed hard into her coat. She did nothing but sigh and reassured that I was safe now and that everything would be alright.
