Discord: the untold story
The explosion was unexpected, to say the least. One second, the city of canterlot was quietly settling down for the night, as the lunar guards began their sunset patrol shift, the next second, all hell was breaking loose. In short, it was catastrophic, rebellious, and the start of the first equestrian civil war. Now, most of you have probably heard of the details of what followed in your ancient history classes, but what they didn't tell you is the following: there was one survivor.

As the rubble cleared around me, I shook my head to try to get rid of the throbbing, and also to try to remember why my head hurt in the first place. The last thing I remembered... The realization that I didn't remember anything at all would have hit me like a brick wall, if it weren't for the fact that that horrible pain had only gotten worse, so it was kind of hard to let anything else occupy my thoughts. The pain in my head continued to intensify until I blacked out.
Upon awakening, I found that I hurt much less than before, so I decided to at least see what I looked like, since I figured that might jog my memory. I looked into a nearby shard of what looked like it used to be stained glass, and was horrified by my appearance. I was a brown Pegasus with a white mane, but the explosion had partially fused a lunar guard uniform to my body, and maimed me horribly in the process.
I don't know what came over me then, but upon seeing my appearance, I could do nothing but laugh. It was just so funny, seeing what looked like some sort of birthday prank gone wrong, even if that did happen to be me. After all, what fun was a practical joke, if no one suffered from it? Argh, why was I thinking like that? Even if I was the only living thing for miles, I couldn't developer such a possibly dangerous attitude. Then again, why not?

Since I first woke up, my memory has turned out to have more holes in it than a changeling's hoof, whatever that means. Not only do I still not remember what my past life was, I don't even remember half of what I have been doing since I woke up. By now, the only thing I still remember about that day is not knowing who I was, and going to find some glass to see my reflection. I don't even remember what I saw...
... I just had the most brilliant idea: chaos! I mean, after all, if all of these pranks I've been pulling have been fun (just yesterday, I stole a unicorn's horn, and fused it to my head, so I could try a spell), why not step it up a notch, and start with adding even more craziness to a warring empire? Now, I just need to find those princesses...
...Now, what was I saying? Like I said, I think that my memory may be getting even worse.
(2 years later; Perspective: A Zebra Sorceress)
Today, a young Pegasus, or what once was one, wandered into my hut, seeking advice. He said that he had lost all of his memories in one of the first battles of the failed Lunar rebellion, and was subject memory lapses still, where he would find himself in all manner of strange and unearthly environments, not remembering how he got there, or why the land was twisted and maimed almost as badly as his own flesh. A change came over his features then, and he proceeded to get a very devious grin on his muzzle. He snapped his fingers, and just like that, my home was flipped upside down! A few seconds later, his expression changed once again, and he seemed just as horrified as I. He claimed not to remember a thing, and insisted that I tell him the truth about what had caused the sudden reversal of gravity. When I told him, his expression became completely unreadable, and he left as suddenly as he arrived. I think it might be time to move.

Dear journal,
Ever since I first started attempting to save my memories by recording them here, I have hoped that the zebra's account of that day so long ago was not true. Today, I learned that she was right all along. This came to pass when I found the following message scrawled on my hoof, in what I can only pretend is my own blood:
HELLO, SELF. I KNOW THAT YOUR OVERGROWN CONSCIOUS WON'T ALLOW YOU TO ACCEPT THE TRUTH, SO IT LOOKS LIKE I WILL JUST HAVE TO TELL YOU MYSELF. EVERYTHING YOU SEE AROUND YOU IS MY DOING WHEN YOU WAKE UP FROM YOUR LAPSES, YOU CAN NEVER ESCAPE IT, AND YOU MIGHT AS WELL EMBRACE IT. REMEMBER THIS IF YOU CAN, OR SHOULD I SAY IF I CAN?
This blunt message made me realize one thing: it's not worth it to fight back against the madness around me, since it turns out that it resides in me most of all. I have decided that half mad is really always going to be a losing battle for the sanity left in me, so the only option left is to surrender, and let this insanity do what it must. Goodbye, for the last time.
