How are you guys? Remember me? I'm Sunset Shimmer, and I am here today to tell you the second part of my life story.
So, you all know that everypony needs a cutie mark to tell them who they are. My parents had theirs when they are even younger than when I got my cutie mark, because they found the correct way to get their cutie marks. So here is how they got their cutie mark and how I got mine.
As you all know, my mother is Sunset Sparkle, and her cutie mark is a sparkly setting sun over a beautiful ocean. She got it by using her newly learnt sparkling spell to make the setting sun over the ocean even more sparklier when she was only just a tiny little filly, much younger than me.
My father, Night Shimmer, found his cutie mark just a little earlier than me. His cutie mark is a shimmering moon. He got it by attempting to help Princess Luna in raising the moon and make it shimmer brightly as down there in Ponyville, Trottingham and other places had a severe blackout. He was chosen as he had the most powerful magic, for some reason, in his class in Canterlot School for Gifted Unicorns before my mother joined it. Somehow, he managed to make it shine brighter than Princess Luna thought a little colt like him can do, thus gaining his cutie mark.
After hearing my parents' cutie mark stories, I gave a great great thought over them and almost used up all of my magic in levitating a quill to write down notes on how my parents found their cutie marks. Suddenly, I got it!
I ran to my parents and blurted out,"I got it! Both of you got your cutie marks by following your name!"
"Oh god sweetie! How did you know that? Even if I got pregnant with a second filly or colt, I will still be overjoyed with you," my mother exclaimed. "Now don't overexcite yourself. Since your name is Sunset Shimmer, your cutie mark has to have something to do with setting the sun or making the sun shimmer, just like how I got my cutie mark by making the moon shimmer." My father was happy as well to hear the news.
Once I heard this, I immediately ran to see the princess of the sun, Princess Celestia. When I reached the royal castle, the unicorn guards took one look at me and asked,"What do you want to do with the princess?"
"My name is Sunset Shimmer, and I am here to ask if I can do anything to help her with the sun and gain my cutie mark. The trait of cutie marks corresponding to the names runs in my family."
"Getting your cutie mark, huh?" The guard looked at my flank."The princess sure cares deeply about ponies who are determined to get their cutie marks someday. So, there you go, young filly."
The guard opened the door and I went in. I saw the princess sitting on her big gold throne. When she saw me, she got down and walked towards me, smiling.
"Hello, young filly, are you getting your cutie mark?"
"But, how do you know?"
I blushed when I said that. It's so silly to say that as everypony can see I am a blank flank.
"Oh, ok, scratch that." I whispered.
So, the princess learnt my name and how ponies in my family gets their cutie marks. She sank into deep thought and finally said,"Ok now Sunset, meet me at 6pm when the sun is supposed to set. Then I shall see if I can help you get your cutie mark. In the meantime, do you want a tour around the castle? I'm sure you live in Canterlot, right?"
"Yes, ma'm!"
When I met the princess at 6pm, she brought me to the balcony.
"Your name is Sunset Shimmer, thus your job is supposed to be making the setting sun shimmer to symbolize a pony's last glory. You can try your best and use as many spells as you like, as long as it makes the sun shimmer as brightly as possible. After we are done, we shall see if there is a cutie mark on your flank. If there is, good for you. If there isn't, we will try again tomorrow. Just remember, try your best." The princess smiled, and began to lower the sun with her magic, a bright yellow light shining around her long horn.
I began using the shimmering spell that my father had taught me. At first the pale green glow around my horn was jittery. It flashed and refused to be consistent. But soon, the glow began to be consistent, and the sun began to actually glow brighter than ever!
I was overjoyed when I saw this happening. Princess Celestia smiled a very warm smile. But suddenly she gasped and cried,"Look out!"
I didn't know what happened next as I have fainted.
When I finally came to, the princess was bending over me. My parents were there too. When I woke up, Princess Celestia let out a relieved sigh and said,"Thank goodness you're safe." Then, she pointed to my flank with the warmest smile I've ever seen.
I stood up and looked round. Suddenly, I saw it!
MY CUTIE MARK!! I started to jump and bounce around the princess and screaming,"Thank you! Thank you! Oh, thank you soooooooo much, princess."
"Wait, Sunset."
"Huh?"
"I have seen that you have more raw power than your father Night Shimmer. Thus, I would like to appoint you as my personal student here in Canterlot School for Gifted Unicorns. I have asked your parents and they said you have just finished magic kindergarten and they were searching for a good magic school for you. Would you be interested to join? And, you should really start to tame your powers. Your raw power is too much it's scary." The princess laughed at this point.
"Sure! Why not! I've been dying to be a unicorn who uses her power to do good things!"
And that's the story of my cutie mark! Oh, you want to have a look? Ok, here it is, a shimmering sun, of course.

Canterlot School for Gifted Unicorns
Hi! Just to refresh your minds, I was continuing on the part where I stopped yesterday.
Finally! It was the first day of school, and I am being admitted into the Canterlot School for Gifted Unicorns. I was sooooooooo seriously excited I squirmed in my seat on the carriage to school.
When I entered the main school gate, my jaws opened wide with shock. I was mesmerized by the sparkly clean area with golden statues. Even the staircases has a soft red carpet covering it, resulting in no sound produces when I walked over it. I almost got dizzy trying to cope with all the light reflected from the super sparkly walls. This is not a school. THIS IS A PALACE! THE PRINCESS'S PALACE!!!!!!!!!!!!
The princess welcomed me personally. She walked towards me and said," There you are, Sunset! It's good you arrived punctually. Come, follow me to your classroom." I walked with a skip in my step. I'm going with the princess!
My eyes almost popped out my eye sockets when we reached Princess Celestia's private classroom. The golden signboard on the door was engraved with the letters reading "Powerful Magic Private Classroom". Is this totally for me?
What surprised me more is another filly standing near the door. She has a cutie mark of a crystal heart, and she has both wings and a horn. She has a pink body and a magenta and yellow mane. When she levitated some books, her horn glowed bright blue. She looked over at me and smiled. Wait a second, I thought. She has both wings and a horn. Then she must be a princess too!
"Sunset Shimmer, meet my niece and our assistant, Princess Cadance. Cadance, meet my new personal student Sunset Shimmer." I walked up to her and gave her a sheepish smile. She stroked my head. Then did I realize she is actually much older than me.
Just then, the door was slowly levitated open with a rosy magenta aura. A white colt with a blue streaked mane peeked in. Princess Celestia noticed hiim and said,"Come in, Shining Armour."
"Your majesty, I would like to inform you that my parents decided to enroll my sister Twilight Sparkle into the School for Gifted Unicorns. Here's the form." Shining Armour levitated a registration form which I immediately recognized.
I managed, somehow, to sneak a peek at the registration form. A neat but bubbly handwriting revealed that the applicant's name was Twilight Sparkle, and to my relief, she is just a year younger than me. I am happy that I am going to have a new friend!
"When will she come to school?" I asked eagerly.
"The earliest, in a few days for the entrance exam, since she had not arranged any earlier session to show me her raw power like you do. The latest, two months to six months."
YES!!!!!!!!
It was the Summer Sun Celebration!
Ponies from all over Equestria gathered at Canterlot to watch Princess Celestia raise the sun. Before the princess arrives, fun fairs and stalls were set up to entertain the ponies who came very early. My family was among one of them.
"Can I please go on the ferris wheel, Mom?" I begged my mother. She thought and said,"Fine. Here's ten bits. Come back and meet at the cotton candy stall over there later!" I quickly nodded and galloped off, levitating the ten bits my mother gave me.
After I had a whale of a time on the ferris wheel and spent all ten bits, I have nothing else to do but go back to the cotton candy stall. My parents stood there, looking anxiously for me. Once my father saw me, he levitated me by one of my hooves and said,"Come on, sweetheart! Princess Celestia is coming!
We pushed ourselves into the front of the crowd and waited. From there, I spied a lavender unicorn filly who is about the same age as me staring up into the stage. I wonder if she is the Twilight Sparkle that Princess Celestia is talking about.
Just then, the pegasi royal guards blew their horns, signalling that the princess is coming. I immediately diverted my attention back to the stage. Princess Celestia trotted up the stage, magnificent as ever. Even with the dim light, I can still see her white body and sparkly mane.
And then, with a flutter of wings, she rose up into the air and stopped in front of the sun and moon statue. Bright lights flashed from her horn, and slowly, the sun came out of the horizon. Everypony gasped. I stole another look at the "Twilight Sparkle" filly, and all I could see was her chin on the ground. Obviously, she was mesmerized by Princess Celestia's beautiful characteristics.
I looked down at the ground, thinking about how good it is to have another friend.
But suddenly, I started to hate that feeling to. What if she had more raw power than me? Then the princess would prefer her to me, and forget all about me? Different feelings were stirred up in my head.
I was born fifteen years ago, in March 1998. I was brought into this world by the doctors in Canterlot General Hospital. I look like and eat, sleep and weigh like a normal filly. My mother's name is Sunset Sparkle and my father is Night Shimmer. Thus, my name became Sunset Shimmer.
I was brought home two days later. Once I opened my eyes to the world, I began learning from my parents magic. At first, I could not even levitate things properly, causing most of them to crash to the ground. Luckily, the things used are all soft toys and soft plastic so they don't break. My mother was quite annoyed with me but my father reminded her of the time when she was a little filly. Probably I was following her.
Soon, I learnt to use my magic. Anyway, here is the colour of my aura.
See? Pale green. Now, Twilight, show yours.
Her aura is magenta pink.
