The Incredible Journey of Flash Sentry was planned to be an ambitious drama in which Flash Sentry recounts to Twilight Sparkle his time with his famed band in Vanhoover, his estranged relationship with Sunset Shimmer – who leaves Vanhoover to peruse a career in Canterlot – and the band's exploding popularity as a result of Flash's ill-fated plan to win her back.

Barely any tangible material for The Incredible Journey of Flash Sentry past the first chapter was ever written, and a lack of inspiration ultimately led to its decline as an idea for a story. The only chapter published, "The Smell of Black Tea in the Morning", later served as an inspiration for a scene in Sound of Colour: A Spacetime Adventure – the second story in the Spacetime Adventure series – where spacetime-travelling guitarist Jess hatches a plan to impersonate a royal guard and use a tea break in order to break into the living quarters of the captive princess Scarlet.
