War has broken out in Equestria, between the kingdoms of Equestria and that of a force that comes from the south of the Macintosh Hills and the Badlands. The wielders of the Elements have mysteriously disappeared and without the power of the Elements of Harmony, even the Princesses have turned unable to stop this conflict without fielding armies. Appleloosa and Dodge Junction have fallen in the wake of the advancing enemies, serving now as military bases of great importance.

What was once the Royal Guard has now been turned into the commanding body of the Equestrian Army, led by General Shining Armor.

Sargent Cladus and the group of a few former strangers have to play their part, no matter what. True War has come to Equestria and now it is in danger of destruction against a foe that has unknown intentions.
