Book 1 The wolf and the magic

Chapter 10: The End Of The Start

After a few weeks, the blacksmiths and enchanters of the Canterlot royal guard armory finished up my new armor. Using the bits and pieces that were left, the crafted the finest armor they could.

The chest piece had a thin padding set underneath it t give it more comfort and the abdominal area had a series of flexible plates. Theses plates moved around like cloth but they could take a sword hit and barely leave a scratch due to the layered style they used.  The gauntlets and gloves were made of the same material; they removed most of the original armor parts of the N7 armor and replaced it with segments of the same flexible plates and chainmail. Each part of the finger had a separate segment. How they managed to do this without me being there for measurements is beyond me. Each gauntlet had a different little addition to it, the right one had two small blades that slide down form the sides to give an extra weapon. The left one had a hidden blade that slid out and the special bit about it was the hooks, used to rip flesh or armor off.  The upper arms and shoulders had chainmail and a few plates that were bent to fit. The shoulder guards were designed to go over the shoulder and hang down a bit, the edge were it went from shoulder to arm, was rounded  and was in segments like scales.  The leggings were completely redone; the thighs had a round style to them with chainmail under it. The lower leg area was done as a knight's armor with a bit of extra covering the knee. The boots were mostly the same, just some flexible plates on the back of it.

The final touch was the color scheme; it was Black, red, and dark gold. All in all, it felt like centurion armor. The last piece that took the longest time was the helmet. Now that truly felt like a centurion helmet, not one of Cerberus, but of human history. The neck cover and the side covers, it even covered the mouth and connected that with a piece going over the nose. On the right side was the Kuwashii visor, never go into battle without one.

The armor fit like a glove, truly fitting for a commander. To test it out, I decided to train with the troop in Ponyville.

Due to the increase in danger, Royal Guard was stationed in Ponyville in case of an attack by any hostile force. The Pegasus guards worked on there aerial martial arts while the Earth Pony guards worked with their spears. I trained the unicorns in the use of magic shields and swords. Each sword was different, based off the personality of the one using it.

I was working with a guard who went by the name of Iron brick; his cutie mark was of a steel I-Beam. Thanks to the armor enchantments, his coat was white and eyes blue, just like the others.

His magic blade clashed with my Claymore with sparks.   "Come on private, you can hit harder and faster then that, come on. Hit me!" Edging on your troops always has the chance to work, in this case, it did.

His next hit was full of magic power, pushing me back a few millimeters. "Was that good enough sir?" He was out of breath, obviously from using too much power on that last hit.

I put my sword in its sheath and looked at my watch. "Good, but don't put too much power into it all at once. You'll end up draining your self and possible getting your self killed in battle. Just make note of that and keep working on it. I got to get going. Got research to do at the library."

Iron Brick let out a small laugh. "Date with the Princess personal student sir?" He gave a joking grin and a small laugh.

"Laugh it up private, and no, not a date. Just research, say anything like that again and I'll have you run 100 laps around the city." I gave him a laugh and continued on my way towards the library.

I got to the library and knocked on the door, but at the same time Rainbow Dash came out from behind at high speeds and knocked me and her through the door has it opened. A bit of pained groans and dust settling, we managed to get back up, didn't help that I still had my armor on.

Once we got everything back to its upright position. Rainbow apologized for the whole thing and left faster then when she crashed into me. I turned to Twilight and shrugged. "Guess the word 'slow' dose not apply to her, am I right?" I let out a low chuckle. Not much laughter received. "Right......Anyways, research?  You told me to come here for some research. Oh, I got a few questions too."

Twilight put books back in the shelf where it belonged and then turned her attention to me. "I see they finished your armor, and yes, the mysterious guy in the photos, remember that?"

I pulled out one of the books that had the mystery guy in a photo. "Yes, yes I do remember him. I was also hoping to get some answers on something while I was here. Something about that old castle in the Everfree forest."

I must have said something that caught her attention, because Twilight was on the topic of the castle faster then Rainbow Dash was on a new Daring Do book.   "What about that castle? Is something going on there? If there is any danger to Ponyville, you must tell me now." Her expression as serious as her tone of voice.

I pulled up some recorded video on my Omni-tool. It showed the castle having shadowy bipedal figures and a figure that seemed to be the leader of the group, but it was very hard to see due to the darkness and the shadows. "I don't know what this is, but it feels like trouble. I think we need to notify the Princesses about this, and do it now. We don't want to be caught off guard in case what ever this is attacks the town."  I looked out the window to see it had started to rain. "If this is some sort of enemy, we must be ready. We can not let any hostile force destroy this town, we will need to asses this opponent, see how large the force is. I will head back out and do some more scouting. If anything happens, I'll run back here as fast as I can. See you later Twilight, lets hope I don't get caught while doing this." Before any objection could be made, I was out the door and on my way to the forest.

When I got there, I felt and evil presence, as if fear controlled the forest. I went in, ignoring the dangers along the way. I made my way to the edge of the forest near the old castle. I got to the end of the brush and crouched down to avoid being seen; I used my Omni-tool to get a closer view of the castle. I saw racks of swords, axes, bows, arrows, and many other weapons. I even saw a trebuchet or two.

When I went to leave, two of the bipedal creatures from before were standing there; tall, slender, and not the toughest looking. But they had no defining features, they had piercing red eyes and that was it beside them only having three, long slender fingers.

"Well, shit." Was all I could say before they grabbed me and dragged me into the castle, they took me into the main hall and strapped me to a wooden board attached to the wall. I looked around and noticed more of the strange creatures coming out of hiding, there was thousands upon thousands of them.  A large group in front of me separated and in came their leader.  About the same build as me, but his armor was more menacing looking. Like mine, but dark and covered in spikes, his sword had no sheath at all. It was a long sword with hooks scattered about it.

"So, the hero comes to visit us in our abode. You are truly pathetic Commander Wolfgang." His voice was deep and rough, as if he had eaten sandpaper and nails. We will let you go back to your friends, but only if you tell them this." He pulled out his sword and put it to my neck. "Tell them; that fear is coming, and we will take everything. Order will fall with it all." He let out a maniacal laugh and put his sword away. He signaled his creatures to release me and toss me out of the forest.

They knocked me out and all went black. One moment I'm at the old castle, the next, I'm outside the forest near Ponyville. I got up and looked into the forest before running to the town.

I ran as fast as I could to Twilights house, m gear was dirtied and scratched. I banged on the door and demanded entry. As soon as Twilight opened the door, I asked for spike to take a letter to send to Princess Celestia. "Spike, write down exactly as I say.  Princess Celestia, there is a danger coming from the Everfree forest. If it was a small issue, I would have it handled. I do not know how we did not notice this, but there is an army of pure evil building in the Everfree forest. I send you this to call for aid form any allies we have: Dragons, Griffons, there Crystal Empire. It's all under threat, so call for them; I will come to Canterlot to help with militaristic organization. Signed, Commander Wolfgang. Now send it Spike, I do not know how much time we have.  Twilight, we must get to Canterlot now. Can you teleport me there?"

Twilight took a moment to process what was happening. "O-Of course, just give me a moment." Twilight took a breath and focused her magic to teleport us to the castle.

In a flash, we were outside the castle. We quickly made our way in and to Princess Celestia.  She should have the letter by now, if so, she knows I'm coming. I entered the throne room and gave a quick bow. "You know why I'm here, and you should understand the danger of this situation Celestia.  We can't take on an army that's able to conquer this entire planet alone. We need help, and we nee it now. Call upon our allies and even our enemies. For we need to be a whole force, they enemy is at our gates and war is unavoidable." My words rang though the room.

Celestia sat upon her throne with Princess Cadence and Luna next to her. Chrysalis was there as well. "I hear you Dunmore and I have already sent word to the other nations for assistance. If this enemy is as large as you say, then we will need the aid of our allies and our enemies. Stay here while we wait for the Queen of the dragons and the King of the gryphon territories. They should arrive soon with the needed urgency of this matter."

We went out into a large opening in the Royal gardens to meet the King of the gryphon territories and the Queen of the Dragons. The fist to arrive was the queen of the dragons and her personal guard. She was as large as a house and a half and her scales were a blood red, her eyes and soft green and her wings as wide as the sky. Her voice was not loud and thundering, but kind and strong. "Princess Celestia, we have received word to give you aid in a battle. And I see the Human Commander is here as well, I have heard of you Commander, a pleasure to meet you. I am Queen Feuer lodern of the Dragons. We are at your disposial, I have already sent a large number of my army to the town of Ponyville. If this threat wants to try and take our land and trasures, let them try. We will burn them out." She sat proud and spoke as if she was a warrrior instead of a Queen.

I gave a slight bow, always repect a leader, unless you plan to kill them. "Your troops will bring fire to the field and help us to achive victory. I thank you for the assistance."

After some talk of stratagy, and the arrival of the Crystal Empires army. The Crystal Empire still had its guards at home, but the army was a large amount. Over 200 troops, along with the Dragons and the Equestiran army, it should be more then a thousand troops. Queen Feuer lodern sent over 700 troops. Armored dragons with fire and claws of swords. Next was the Gryphon King, King Gewalt Klaue.

He was a warrior no doubt, he was proud and stubbern. He wore heavy armor made for a frontline general and his voice was gruff and hard. "Greetings Princess Celstia, I have arrived  due to your request of aid. If this enamy wishes to conquer us, then the'll have to kill all two thousand of my soldiers. And we brought a special weapon to the field. We have brough cannons and morters. Our explosive power shall decimate the enamy." He did not bother with much formalities and we went stright to tactis talk.

The 'Shadow army' as we called them was to come out of the everfree forest and straight into Ponyville. We would set up a line of spears and then swords and shield behind them with archers beihnd them, ready with fire arrows. After the arrows let loose, the Gryphon cannons and morters would open fire and rain explosives upon the advanceing army. After that, the Dragons would take care of any sige wquepment the opposing force had and they would try and focus the enamy into a bottleneck. Making them run rught into our spears. After the spears, the swords and sheilds would advance, with large magic shields form unicorns and Pegasus archers faring off their crossbows into the battle below would help thin out the enamy.

I went back to Ponyville to lead the armies, and to lead them o victory. Before I went to the frontline, I stopped by my house and grabbed some of the power crystals. I tied them up around a few grenades and took the large one Twilight had given me and put a grenade and a few other crystals and bundled them up.

I noticed the town had been evacuated; the only thing here was soldiers and the smell of fire for the arrows. I got the front of the army, over a thousand and a half strong. Twilight came to me before I went to the front and asked me to stay in the back to avoid being killed, she pleaded with me to not be in the thick of it. I gave her my dog tags, had promised her I would come back.  I stepped in front of the large force. "Today, we fight a foe like no other, no morale, no needs, only death with satisfy them today. It shall be their deaths and their blood that fills the ground. I will tell you this now; some of you might not come back form this. Some of you will die today, but the fallen shall be remembered as some of our finest. Today, we fight, today we survive, and today....We shall win!" The army cheered and metal clanged in excitement.

In hours, the enemy spilled from the forest, and large bipedal creatures the size of two trees walked onto the battle field.  I raised my sword high. "Archers! Ready your arrows with fire!" They readied their arrows, and aimed high. The tips aflame and ready to burn. "Hold!.....Hold!....." A few more seconds, the opposing army charged, the slender creatures now wearing armor.  "FIRE!!!!" I pointed my sword forward and arrows arched over head.

After the arrows, the cannons and mortars fired off their shots. The large metal explosives and the arrows took out chunks of the enemy army.  Rain poured as the battle went on, our spears charged with the Swords and shields right behind them. Allies died, and so did the enemy.

I saw the leader, I charged forward with my sword drawn. I cut my way through the enemies in front of me, cutting them down as we rushed forward.  The leader swung his sword toward me and I blocked it with a clang of metal on metal.

I slashed at him, but we were evenly matched, soldier to soldier, and Fire to fire, Order to Fear. He hooked my blade with his sword and pulled it away. He kicked me in the chest, knocking me to the ground. "Surrender Commander, I promise your death will be slow." He laughed as he attempted to hit me with his sword.

I slid the tow blades on the right gauntlet down and barely blocked the powerful strike. I attempted to get back up, but I was kicked in the face and back onto the ground. I kicked forward and used the mud's slickness to slide away from a strike. I jumped up and kicked him in the back of the head. I tossed tow of the three crystal bundles to either side of me, taking out large chunks of armor clad creatures. Dragons flew over head, spreading fire on the field.

I grabbed my sword from the ground and swung it at their leader, he blocks and counters. I block and counter him. The fight was as if I was fighting a mirror image.  I managed to strike his helmet off and it was my face, with eyes of red rage. His skin was a sickly gray, and his face was an evil copy of me. A mirror fight indeed, while he was disoriented, I struck again.

Our forces were starting to cut down more and more of the creatures.  Bodies littered the ground, and weapons of different forms were scattered about. "Looks like you loose, surrender now."

He laughed at me. "Why should I surrender Wolfgang, I'll kill you just like I did with your father and you mother. Your father betrayed his people. And you mother betrayed hers, they fought to the death. The ended up dying by my hands, I did not have a physical body until you showed up. The Doctor would say your father did the right thing, and your mother was deemed a hero by the Dragons of the north. What a joke they were." He let out a laugh. "Now I just have to kill you!!"

He swung his blade and hooked my arm and ripped the armor clean off with a small bit of flesh. I only had one choice, one more explosive, the big one. Probably going to die this time, if I do, then I died as I lived: Loud and proud.  I pulled out the crystal bundle and stuck the grenade to it. "Come here asshole, I got a present for you!" I pulled the pin and grabbed him by a hook on his armor.

He struggled to loosen my grasp. "Let go! Damn you, let go!"

I gave a grin. "Time to die you son of a bitch." The grenade timer hit zero. "Sorry Twilight." In a large flash and an explosion, the battle ended.

As soon as he died, the creatures vanished into thin air, as if they were never there. Soldiers, who were thought dead, got back up and shook off the dead feeling.

  The battle was over, and it was won, but at a cost. In the middle of it all was the burnt, damaged and broken body of Commander Wolfgang. His sword stuck in the ground, a light coming through the clouds shined upon the area.

Soldiers picked up the body and took it to the medical center. To see I anything could be done to safe the Commander, but alas he was dead.

Twilight would not believe it and demanded him to wake, but the only response was the faint glow of light under Dunmore's skin. He was no normal human, we know that, but he was much more then just that.
