The Calling of Equestria
Chapter 1
Load Full StoryI awaken in a large grassy field. The sun shines directly into my eyes, no matter which way I look. Strange... I thought. Although I was still tired, I stood up. I noticed there was a small stream at the end of the plain. Reluctantly, I walked over to it. After dunking my head into the water, I felt awake and alert. As any survivalist would do, I took inventory of the things I had. Of course, all I had was my father's Ka-Bar. I sighed. This would have to do. As I was contemplating my next move, a loud roar came from the forest. Having no clue were it came from, I started making my way to where I first woke up. Before I could even move a foot, a large lion jumped out of the forest and tackled me. When he pounced on me, it threw my knife out of my grip. I reached for said knife , but the lion was to quick. It's maw opened, and I was swallowed into blackness.
I woke up , drenched in sweat. After willing my body to calm down and forget the nightmare, I glanced at the clock. It was about seven in the morning. Getting off my couch, I walked into the kitchen. After thinking about what to eat for ten minutes, I settled for some cereal. I sat down and ate in silence. I then continued my usual Saturday routine. I took a quick shower, got dressed, and logged onto the computer. After browsing reddit for an hour, I signed off and grabbed my phone, wallet, and backpack. I let out a loud sigh, then walked out of my front door.
The forest has always been a place of tranquility for me. I visited it much more after my parents' deaths. My mother was killed in a suicide bombing incident. She was one of the few thousand people that were killed. After this happened, my father signed up for the military to help combat the organization that committed the bombing. He and his squad were ambushed at a small camp. No one survived the attack. By this time I was about 22. I signed up for the military that same year that my father was killed. Even though I only enlisted for 1 year, I learned some pretty valuable things. Yes, I consider effective fighting tactics and survival very valuable. Anyways, that's enough rambling for now. I was on my walk for a mere 10 minutes before I spotted a rabbit. This was weird, as it usually takes me an hour to get near any signs of wildlife. I had not eaten rabbit for some time now, and I wanted some. I drew out my Ka-Bar and slowly approached the rabbit. Positioning the knife in my hand, I threw it at the rabbit. It was a clean throw, as usual. I stood up and walked over to the rabbit. After picking it up, I pulled the knife from its head and placed it back into the sheath. After commenting on my deadly my accuracy, I then took the long walk to a nearby pond to clean my kill.
As I approached the pond, I heard a faint buzzing sound. Disregarding it as a bee hive, I continued to the pond. When I came into earshot, I heard the frogs croaking loudly and the splashes from fish jumping. This was one of the most peaceful places in the whole forest. When I reached the pond, the buzzing was much louder. I swatted the air around me, only to feel nothing. "Well, this is odd" I said quietly to myself. I knelt down at the clear water's edge and started to clean and skin the rabbit. The buzzing was becoming even louder at this point, so loud that I was tempted to cover my ears to try to drown it out. Then, as sudden as it started, it stopped. I looked down into the pond and noticed a faint white glow coming from the bottom. It was progressively getting larger and brighter by the second. Before long, it was right beneath the surface, threatening to break through.
Curiosity got the better of be and I reached out into the water. As my finger collided with the wall of light, there was a small pop. I felt my body in immense pain, as if it was being stretched and distorted. I did not dare open my eyes. I willed the pain to cease. It did not. Then there was complete blackness, I had passed out.
====================
It was a rough day at the police office for Josh. Another thievery report had just come in. Apparently it was another action by the infamous "Black Mamba." Although he had his doubts, he went to visit the DNA testing lab. They had reports that the master thief finally made a mistake in his little scheme. As he approached the lab, he could hear hushed cheers coming from inside. As he walked in, he looked at the display screen. There was a picture of a man in his early to mid twenties, as well as some text off to the side. The scientists quickly noticed him and calmed down. Josh could still see the overjoyed reactions in their eyes even though they tried to calm down in from of their boss. He spoke quietly, yet firmly at the same time. "So, is this the Black Mamba?" The lead scientist responded with haste. "Yes sir, we believe it is. We found a minuscule amount of saliva at the scene. When we brought it back here to test, the results took longer than expected to come up. But alas, we have our thief." Josh was secretly happy on the inside, but did not let it show. Instead, he replied "Excellent work. I will need a copy of the picture and the description please." Hastily, one of the scientist printed off and handed the copies to Josh. He smiled at the young scientist's enthusiasm, and read the description:

After returning to his office, Josh faxed the report to the local police office. Hopefully they could catch this criminal once and for all he thought to himself. Little did he know that this criminal would never be caught. In this world, at least.
