Celestia, Luna, Twilight, Cadence.
This quartet must set out from their desolated homeland, torn apart by war. In a land uninhabitable for a regular pony, Celestia stands her ground, the only pony that does not want to find a new land. So, she drags the other three princesses along to do something new.
She's going to create a new breed of ponies… well, not so new. The three tribes that founded Equestria would be made into one.
Four other ponies have been made like this before.
It consisted of the four names listed above.

They're going to create alicorns.
But things don't go the way they plan.

The purple pony sat quietly, quill gently levitating in the air. She had cried out all of her tears. It had been a week since the war ended. Pinkie Pie was the first to go, followed by Fluttershy, then Rarity, then the pegasus, Rainbow Dash. An orange pony laid beside her, coughing up blood, before falling back into, what Twilight assumed was, a nightmare. Applejack's breath sounded like a radiator, slightly hissing, slightly rattling. No amount of magic could save the pony who was covered in battle scars and dirt. Twilight had managed to find some water to clean AJ's wounds, but other than that, her alicorn magic couldn't save anything.

Twilight glanced at her friend, longingly. "Hey, Applejack." She whispered, softly. "I know you probably can't hear me, but I'm ready to let go now. I don't want you to try to stay anymore. Thank you for protecting me, but I was the one who should have protected you." Her voice faltered at the end of the last sentence. She had managed to rescue Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy's bodies from the wreckage. Pinkie Pie's was completely gone, burned into ashes, and Rarity's was MIA, but Twi knew she was dead. Ms. Sparkle felt exhausted, but the minute she fell asleep, the air around AJ would be infected once again with chemicals.

The duo were silently hiding in a half ruined bomb shelter, but Twilight had managed to fix things up the past few days. The alicorn had only survived for one reason. She was an alicorn. Twilight hadn't heard anything from any of the other princesses, so the mare began to write.

Dear Reader,

If you are reading this, it means some form of life has survived the battle. The Griffin Kingdoms had fallen before us with a mysterious enemy. Celestia and Luna weren't worried.

That was Equestria's biggest mistake. I would go further into detail, but I have the last surviving regular pony---probably the last surviving regular pony of any of the three tribes with me. Her name is Applejack, one of my closest friends, ever.

They burn. We don't know what they are, we can't see them, but they burn. We figured that out too late.

These things came, simply appeared one day. Cloudsdale was first. Cloudsdale was completely ripped apart, launching Equestria's biggest war. Pinkie Pie, a close friend, a simple Earth pony, went to visit my friend Fluttershy, who was vacationing in her hometown. She was killed on the first day. Fluttershy was killed a few days lat

Twilight Sparkle's letter was cut short as she heard a banging on the door. Rushing over to her friend, she sheltered Applejack with her wings, ready to face the intruder.

Bang.

Twilight quickly muttered an enchantment, and the door quickly turned to steel, and sealing off Applejack and Twilight from the outside world.

Bang.

A small dent appeared in the door.

Bang.

Silence quickly went over for a few minutes. Twilight heard something stir.

"Tw...i?" The alicorn looked down. It was Applejack.

Bang.

God damn it, Applejack. All the times I begged for you in my mind, this was the worst possible time to wake up. Twilight thought, bitterly. "Hush, Applejack. Go back to sleep." The lavender mare murmured. Applejack nodded, weakly, dozing off quickly.

Bang.

The door rippled, literally, rippled. The metal surface was supposed to outstand any force with an alicorn's enchantment around it! The door quickly stilled, but this time, the dent was bigger.

Bang.

Twilight Sparkle felt her heart race. She swore Applejack could probably hear it panicking in her sleep. The dent in the door was worse, much worse, now having a little jagged slit in the middle. Muttering more enchantments, she found them useless. The next hit, they would make it in. Twilight was positive of that. Focusing, Twilight went calm, focusing all of her energy on her horn.

BANG.

A blinding flash of light hit Twilight. No, it wasn't natural sunlight. It was a white figure, slightly dirty, but bright white.

"GET BACK!" Twilght roared, with all the fury of hell. It probably wasn't that scary, as Twilight wasn't exactly a scary monster herself, she was just a weak pony. Sending a large spell filled with who-knows-what at the white figure, the unknown creature got hit in the... hoof. It sent a hole through it, but it quickly healed. Only alicorns could heal that fast from an alicorn's magic. It's impossible for any other species to heal that fast with science.

The white figure stepped forwards, a white jacket draped around, hood shielding her face.

"Twilight Sparkle. I have searched the land for you."

"C... Ce... Celestia?!" Twilight said, incredulously.
