Princess Luna always had an appreciation for the twilight. It was a time when the night connected to the day. It was a time when she felt truly connected to the night, as well as the day. She realized something while looking at the twilight one day. She said to herself, "The twilight connects the night to the day. Twilight Sparkle reunited me with my sister."

Luna laughed at the thought. It was pretty spectacular to say the least. She had never come to a realization like that. She continued to watch the twilight. It would become day in a matter of moments. Then she would prepare for her much needed nap.

One hour had passed when Luna noticed something else. The twilight wasn't changing to day. Instead, it was started to become night once again. Luna looked down upon the few ponies who were awake at this hour. Some had a look of fright on their faces. They were afraid that Nightmare Moon returned. That was Luna's assumption anyway.

Luna began to race to her sisters room where she usually lifted the sun. To her astonishment, nopony was there. She looked around the empty room, hoping she left a clue to her whereabouts. Nothing came up but a few scrolls, some pictures, and some quills and parchments. She checked her bed, but found nothing. She fell onto the bed

Luna thought to herself out loud. "If my sister isn't raising the sun, where else would she-" Her eyes burst open. She got up from her bed, opened the window, and flew outside. Her scavenging eyes surveyed the area around her. She knew where Celestia was, but she never knew where the graveyard was. It always escaped her mind. As she was scavaging the land for Celestia, her eyes eventually detected something colorful in the distance. It was standing in place looking at a grave. At first, she could have sworn in looked just like Rainbow Dash. But she knew this couldn't be possible. She shook her head, and Rainbow disappeared.

Luna continued to fly to where the sun princess was. She glanced to her left, seeing something odd. It looked just like Rarity, scavenging for gems in the ground. Right behind her was Twilight's assistant Spike. He looked happy. A little too happy. Luna rolled her eyes. She knew Spike had a childish crush on Rarity. Luna stopped flying. She took a look back, and saw nothing.

'Come now Luna, you're just witnessing some hallucinations.' Luna thought to herself. She started to trot towards Celestia.

An orange equine caught her gaze. Applejack. She was simply doing what she did best. Applebucking. Applejack prepared herself to kick the tree. She made sure that her form was perfect until she kicked the tree with a mighty buck with her hooves. Apple after apple fell from the tree, and into a few baskets lying below the tree.

'Luna, these things are not real. Stop paying attention to them.' Luna thought to herself. But she couldn't help but notice them. The rest of the element bearers appeared out of nowhere. Fluttershy was caring to an injured animal, Pinkie Pie was happily bouncing around, and Twilight was right next to Celestia.

"Sister!" Luna ran to Celestia. The hallucinations disappeared. Celestia didn't pay any attention to the dark blue alicorn running towards her. She was giving all of her attention to the graves placed before her. A single tear dripped from her face and onto the ground.

The moon princess didn't know what she was doing, but she knew it wasn't as important as raising the sun. She didn't give any thought to whose grave it was. "Celestia, you must raise the sun. It's about time that you did."

Celestia didn't respond. She continued her gaze at the six graves. "Sister, what are you doing? Whose graves are those?" Luna walked closer to the graves, realizing what Celestia was doing. She kept silent until Celestia was finished.

It was only a few moments later when she did. Celestia looked up. She turned to her sister and smiled. "Hi Luna. How's it going?"

"'Tia, you need to raise the sun. Otherwise, nighttime might last forever. Don't make the same mistake I did."

"That's no longer necessary." Celestia said.

Luna looked at her sister in surprise. "What do you mean 'no longer necessary.' If you don't raise the sun, ponies won't be able to farm. Food supplies would run out, leaving many ponies without food. Do you want to be responsible for that?"

"No no. I mean no longer necessary for ‘me’ to raise the sun."

"What?"

Celestia returned her gaze to the six graves. "Do you remember that day, Luna?"

"'Tia, it wasn't your fault. You can't keep blaming yourself. Old age gets the better of ordinary ponies." Luna thought back to that day. The day when the element bearers died. Each of them died in the same hospital, only an hour apart from one anotehr. To no one's surprise, Twilight Sparkle died last. Celestia did everything in her power to save her and her friends, but nothing worked. Celestia even went so far as to offer immortality to all of them. All of them declined.

"'Tia... I know that you feel guilty about what happened. But you need to move on. I feel as sad as you do, believe me, I do. But you can't let it take presidents over your duties."

"I know. But it's not that. It's something else."

"What is it? Please tell me." Now, Luna was very confused. Celestia was very cryptic at times, but now was not the time for it.

"I grow tired Luna. I grow weak. It may seem impossible, but I'm dying." The news was a shock. Luna didn't say anything else. "There is a limit to an alicorns power. We cannot live forever, but we can live for a longer time than anypony else. Our magic is powerful, but it can run out. That's what's happening to me. I simply cannot carry out this task any longer."

"But... this can't be. Is this some kind of sick joke? Stop this. Stop this now!" Luna looked at her sister with that sisterly hatred that every pair of sisters had in common. Celestia turned to face her sister. Tears came out of both of her eyes. "Who's going to raise the sun. It certainly can't be-"

"You." Celestia interrupted her sister. "You raise the moon every night, I think you are capable of raising the sun too."

"But... how. We already know that I'm incapable of lifting the sun. The only way that could happen is if you-" Once again, Celestia interrupted her. Not with words, but with magic. She cast a spell that Celestia could only cast once in her life. Now was the perfect time.

As the spell was being performed, Luna levitated from the ground. She could feel the sun goddess's magic pierce her skin. Luna felt three times as powerful than she previously was. She didn't want that.

"Please! Don't do this!" Luna screamed. Celestia didn't listen to her. She kept her focus on casting the spell.

It was a lengthy process. It required taking every last bit of power that Celestia possesed, and transferring it into her sister's body. When it was over, Luna fell to the ground, landing on her hooves. She felt different, and certainly looked different. She was no longer a dark blue, but a bluish white. Her mane was now blue, green, and purple with sparkling stars inside of it.

"Raise the sun sister. I know you can." Luna did as her sister told her. She used her new magic, and achieved a grasp on the sun that was barely looming over the mountain. The sun slowly raised into the now blue sky. It's radiant beams shined on Luna's face.

"I did it. I really did it."

"Yes you did. I'm proud of you." Celestia looked terrible. Her mane of many colors was now a simple pink. Her white skin faded, and was now a sad shade of grey. Luna rushed over to her dying sister. She cradled her head with her hooves. Tears fell down their faces. Celestia's were of happiness, while Luna's of great sorrow. "Don't be sad. I'll be with mom and dad. They'll take good care of me."

"I know. I know they will." Luna planted a kiss on her forehead. Luna wanted nothing more than silence. She wanted to spend the rest of Celestia's life with her sister in her arms. And that's what she got. She had gotten just that. Nothing but silence for a good six minutes. Throughout that time, it seemed that the sun was shining brighter as time went by.

To Lua's astonishment, Celestia began to levitate off of her hooves. Luna reached out to Celestia, but she was out of reach. She would have flew after her, but it would do no good. Celestia turned around. She had a glorious smile on her face. She waved good-bye. Luna waved back.

Luna was uncontrollably crying now. Her sister started to drift towards the sun until she was out of sight. Luna fell to the ground. She buried her face into her hooves. Nothing could have cheered her up that day. Absolutely nothing. She didn't want to be a ruler. All she wanted was to have her sister at her side again.

Her cries were heard all across Equestria. Most were startled by it, afraid it was some kind of monster. Others went to check it out. They found the new ruler of Equestria at the element bearers graves, crying her eyes out.

The group of almost a hundred questioned her. "Who are you? What happened with the sun? Where's Celestia and Luna?"

Luna didn't want to respond but she had no other choice. "Celestia is gone. I am now your princess."

It proved as a shock to the group. They recognized Luna's voice, but her appearance was different than the one they had gotten used to. They all bowed before their new ruler. Luna gazed at the sun. One last tear fell from her right eye. 'Good-bye.'
