“Hey, kid, wake up.”
“Huh?”
“Kid, wake up.”
As I slowly opened my eyes, I saw a blue horse with a golden mane, a police cap and a police jacket staring down at me as I laid on the ground, confused.
“What the fluck?! Where am I? And who are you?” I said as I tried to figure out what the hell was going on.
“I’m an officer of the Canterlot police department, you are in Canterlot and I just caught you snoozing in the alleyway.”
“Canter-what?”
“Canterlot kid, and I would recommend that you stand up before I decide to bring to the department.”
“I’m sorry, but where in the world is Canterlot?” I said as I tried to stand on my two feet, but I had the balance of a drunk, and soon found myself back on the asphalt.
“In Equestria. And what are trying to do, a circus act? Stand on your hooves before I get impatient.” said the officer.
“Hooves?” I said as I looked at my two lower extremities to notice that I didn’t have any feet.
“What the fluck?!” I looked at my body and my higher extremities to notice a black coat fur and instead of having hands I had hooves. “What am I?”
“A pony, kid. Or a unicorn to be more precise. Now stand on your damn hooves!” Said the officer impatiently.
I quickly stood on my four hooves newly found as I tried to gain a bit of composure.
“No more funny jokes kid, what is your name?”
“Wade Sterling officer” I said as I was praying in my head for this to be some weird dream.
“Wade Sterling, what kind of name is that kid?” Said the officer confused.
“A name, what yours?” I asked.
“Gilded Justice” he said with a straight face.
“Is it some kind of name you got at work or something?” I asked as I tried to keep a straight face.
“No... It’s the name I got a birth, is it funny or something?”
“Absolutely not sir” I said. I guess everybody in this place had names like this?
“Are you a blank flank Wade?” asked me officer Gilded Justice.
“Blank what?” I said confused, expecting an even more confusing answer.
“Do you have cutie mark?” the officer said.
Knew it. “A cutie mark?” I asked.
“Kid what did you do last night? Don’t tell me that you don’t know what a cutie mark is” said the officer, shocked by the fact I did not know what a cutie mark was.
I just looked at him with an intrigued face, wondering what was a cutie mark.
Officer Gilded Justice sighed, turned to his side and pointed to some sort of mark on his flank.
“A cutie mark is a mark on your flank that you earn by discovering what you are good at.” said the officer as he looked at me suspiciously.
“And from the looks of it you don’t have one Wade.”
“Yeah, I guess not...” I said as I looked at my flank.
“You know Wade it is pretty odd for somepony of your age to not have cutie mark.” Said the officer.
The officer was probably on to me, on to the fact that I didn’t belong here. I had to find a way to get this officer away from me.
Then an idea came to head.
I started laughing hysterically.
“What so funny Wade?” Said the officer confused.
“I can’t help myself officer. You are so gullible believing all those lies.” I said, lying through my teeth.
“What?! You punk! I would arrest you right now if I could!” he yelled at me with rage.
He then trotted away back on the streets, furious about what just happened.
After that little confrontation, I noticed a puddle beside me.I sat down to look at myself, to figure out if this was just a weird dream or the beginning of a terrible nightmare.
As I looked into the puddle to try and find my own reflection, I instead saw the reflection of a stranger; a black pony. He had a black coat of fur, a messy grey mane that looked like my grey hair, a horn coming out his grey mane and had flashy green eyes.
Startled, I jerked my head up looking for the unicorn that I saw in the puddle. I quickly realised who was probably in the puddle.
“What the hell?” I looked into the puddle looking at that reflection in the puddle, “Is that me?”
I stuck my tongue out and the reflection stuck out his tongue. I shook my head in denial, and the reflection responded by shaking his head in denial of my answer. It really was my reflection.
I started panicking. I was in a completely different universe. I did not know what to do and I didn’t have anybody to help me. I was missing my caring mother, those acquaintances I called my friends, hell, I was even missing my father. I was completely alone in this place called Equestria.
I stood up and slapped myself with my hoof. “No! This is all a bad dream.” I said while slapping myself again.
But I felt the pain of both of those slap fully. That was real genuine pain, I had to admit it, I wasn’t dreaming these coloured talking ponies.
I sat down and started crying. I was away from my loved ones, and less loved ones. I was about to go into a prestigious college to become an accountant. Even though I didn’t want to become one, it was still better than this. But here I am, in an alleyway, sobbing, in a place I don’t even know in the slightest.
Sobbing wasn’t going to solve this problem, so I took my newly found hooves and trotted onto the streets of this place

After I trotted down the streets of the city for a bit, I thought about the conversation I had with that police officer; of everything that weirded him out in that conversation. The most notable thing that had got his attention, except for the fact that I didn’t know a damn thing of this place, was my name. I’d have to find a new name if I wanted blend in with everybody.
After asking a couple of ponies their names, I finally understood how their naming system works. They seem to be generally name themselves by a trait they have; their talent, their looks, etc. I had to think of something. So I went to a park and sat on a bench and thought of names.
I didn’t really have a talent, I had a grey mane and a black coat of fur. I guess I could call myself Greymane... nah it sounds too tribal. The only thing I want is a name that would fit in and make me anonymous is this place. Hmm, anonymous... I might be onto something, maybe Anon... that doesn’t sound too bad. I actually like the sound of that name. It’s decided that for the time I am stuck here I shall call myself Anon, that is if I don’t get crazy looks from everybody.

I was starting to get hungry after all of these events, so I decided to look for the nearest restaurant. It wasn’t too long before I found a little restaurant beside this park; it was called Daisy’s sandwich bar.
Since I didn’t have money, I trotted behind the restaurant and started rummaging through the garbage bins in the hopes of finding something to eat. I noticed while I was rummaging through rotting plants, that there is no meat in it which lead me to the conclusion that this pony culture doesn’t eat meat, I guess I’d better get used to plants. In the process of rummaging the garbage, I found half a banana that was brown but not rotten.
“Well this is as good as it gets.” I said to myself.
I sat beside the bins I was just rummaging through and prepared to eat the half of a banana, when suddenly the backdoor to the restaurant opened. A mare came out of the door with a garbage bag. She had yellow fur, a daisy for a cutie mark and an orange mane held by a yellow ribbon that had a daisy badge. She looked at me and dropped the garbage bag.
“Oh you poor thing.” she said, pitying me.
“Come in, I’ll make you a sandwich instead of you eating that dirty banana, on the house too.”
I consider her offer for a couple of seconds, throw the banana in the bin, walk towards her, and walk in the restaurant. I couldn’t find the words to thank her of her generous offer so I stood silent.
The yellow pony closed the door and trotted to the kitchen counter.
“What kind of sandwich do you want?” She asked me while taking two slice of bread.
“Whatever is most convenient for you.” I replied.
“Well I will make you my specialty, a daisy sandwich” she said proudly.
I smiled and stood silent, thinking of how weird daisies would taste.
“How impolite of me, I forgot to introduce myself!” She said trying to make conversation. “My name is Daisy, What’s your name?”
“Anon.” I said, slightly proud of the name I created.
“Well it is nice to meet you Anon” She said with a smile. “Well, your sandwich is done so you can go take a seat on the other side of counter and eat up.” she said, putting the sandwich on the service counter.
I went to the other side of the counter, took a seat, picked my sandwich with my hooves and started eating my sandwich. I found it quite surprising how well hooves are capable of picking up objects, and even more surprising was the fact that the sandwich tasted amazing.
“Hey, can I ask you a couple questions?” asked Daisy.
“I suppose it is the least I can do.” I replied.
“Why aren’t you picking your sandwich with magic instead of your hooves?”
“To be honest, I don’t know how.” I replied, slightly worried about the conversation I was about to engage in.
“Don’t they teach you that in school?” Daisy asked curiously.
“I didn’t go to school, I was home taught by my father who didn’t have a horn.” I said lying, again.
“Wasn’t your mom a unicorn?” She replied.
“Yes.” I said.
“And she didn’t teach you magic?” She asked, perplexed.
“No, my father didn’t want me to learn magic for some reason.” I said, hoping that I wasn’t slipping up in my lies.
“Oh, so you had one of those anti-magic dad.” she replied.
“Yeah, it wasn’t part of his vision for me.” I replied, trying to bait her into taking the conversation somewhere where it would be easier for me to make up things.
“What was his perfect vision?” She asked, biting my bait as I bit into my sandwich.
I finished my bite and replied ” An accountant. He wanted me to become just like him. But sadly, when he finally got it through his thick head that I wasn’t going to become an accountant, he kicked me out of the house. With no money or a talent to get any.”
“Oh that’s tragic, I’ve heard a couple of stories like that. But it is odd that you don’t have a cutie mark at your age, especially since you're a unicorn.” She said
“What is so special about being a unicorn?” I said, intrigued by what she said.
“Huh? Oh right, you didn’t learn magic. Unicorns generally at some point in their childhood will be guided by their magic to their talents. So usually your magic would have brought you to your talent. You certainly do have an odd fate.” She said.
“Well, I guess fate has something planned for me if it brought me here.” I said.
“Oh jeez, are we already eleven fifty?” Daisy said nervously. ”I am sorry of saying this but you’ve gotta leave before the restaurant opens.”
“Well I guess I have to go.” I quickly gulped down the rest of my daisy sandwich which. She escorted me to the back door and opened it.
“Good bye, I wish you good luck to on the streets of canterlot.” She said, smiling.
“Good bye. I thank you a lot for the sandwich, you were the nicest pony I’ve ever met since I was on these streets.” I said, smiling back at her.
She then closed the door and I trotted away, back onto the streets of Canterlot.
Well it seems that not knowing magic is not normal for a unicorn. I guess it wouldn’t be a bad idea to pay attention to the other unicorns and figure out what they can do with magic.
I walked down the streets of Canterlot, paying attention to the unicorns. It seemed that the most common thing they would do is levitate things. They would surround their horn and the thing that they wanted to lift with an aura.
I guess I could try to copy what they did. I decided to go into the alleyway, out of ponies’ view so I can practice what I seeing, hoping this would help me fit in. I decided to hide in the alley with a tin can to practice.
“Okay Wade, no wait, my name for the moment is Anon. Okay Anon, let’s try to levitate this tin can.” I said to myself.
I hid between two garbages bins, looked at the tin can and started concentrating on my horn, hoping that something would happen.
~~ /)(\ ~~
“God damn it! I don’t know how long I’ve been trying this, but I still can’t do it!” I said, taking deep breath trying to calm down.
“One last try and I am done.”
I started concentrating on the tin can one last time. I started to feel something at the end of my horn, I closed my eyes in the hope that it will help concentrate.
The feeling at the end of my horn was getting stronger. I re-open my eyes to see if I was levitating the tin can. But I instead found myself in a black space with a green aura floating everywhere.
“Oh god, where am I now?” I said looking around.
There was no sky, there was no ground under me. Just me, a big black space and a green aura.
Then the aura slowly moved towards. I was starting to be worried. Then the aura was starting to get some pace and started swirling around me.
“What the fluck?”I said worried.
Then the aura went straight for my horn. Then it was pitch black.
I open my eyes to find myself back in the alleyway.
I looked at the tin can again to find it levitating, with a green aura around it.
I looked up at my horn to find it surrounded by the same green aura.
“I did it. I did it !” I screamed in joy.
I started flailing the tin can around a bit; I was capable of levitation.
I look in the sky and notice it was night time. How long was I in that black space? I wondered to myself.

I trotted out of the alleyway and started to look for someplace to sleep for the night, preferably not in a alleyway again. After trotting a couple of minutes I managed to find a homeless shelter; it was called Luna’s shelter for the homeless. I trotted in to find that the building was in decent shape, though it had a creaky floor and a window covered with plywood.
I trot up to the counter and ask to the mare behind it “May I have a place for the night please?”
“What’s your name?” she said with monotone, uninterested voice.
“Anon” I responded.
“Okay Anon, here’s a nutrition bar, a gym mattress and a pillow.” she said as she put them on the counter with her magic.
With a bit of difficulty, I picked it up with my aura.
“The sleeping room is in the back and tomorrow morning you can take a shower.” she said as she pointed to the sleeping room.
I trotted into the sleeping room to find a pretty good amount of homeless ponies sitting on their mattresses, talking to each other. I decided to set myself in a corner, eat my nutrition alone with my thoughts, in the hopes that I won't get disturbed.
Once it was the time to go to sleep, I laid down in my mattress, backed up against the wall, just in case, and muttered to myself, “My name is Anon, and I am a unicorn.” I guess I’d better get used to it.
