Load Full Story“Tyler! I told you to go to bed ten minutes ago!” I heard the shout coming down the short hallway. It held the tone of ‘Don’t argue with me this time.’
Tyler groaned.Quickly navigating through the map, he saved quickly before pulling the plug out of the wall. Standing, he placed his hands at his side and stretched, popping some of the bones in his spine, which meant that he had once again spent too long gaming with his friends.
“Tyler!” The shout came again.
“The computer’s off Mom! I’m off to bed!” He shouted back to his parent’s bedroom, glancing at the clock as he walked out of the computer room.
Eleven o’clock at night. Groaning, he walked down the stairs to his room and quickly changed into some night clothes and hopped in bed.
“I am soo going to be late.”
Late to what? Well, Tyler had some promises to keep. No, he wasn’t sneaking out. It was more like...

Chapter One: In Sleep, There is Life
...Only to awake.
“Lunar, wake up. You’re going to be late.”
Lunar sighed tiredly, and stretched without getting out of bed. It was a comfortable bed.
“Lunar. I mean it. It’s already eight, and you promised that you would be at Sugarcube Corner at nine.”
“Mom! I don’t wanna!”
What? What do you mean that it was just eleven at night? Oh yeah. As far as Lunar could tell, Earth and Equestria run on different times. To his best guess, Equestria is...fifteen hours behind Earth. Or Equestria is nine hours of Earth.
He still isn’t quite sure.
“Lunar Flare, I don’t care if you don’t wanna. You promised the Cakes that you would help clean up their shop and help bake to show that you’re sorry.”
Sitting up, he propped his head up with, hooves supporting him. “But Mom! It wasn’t me! It’s not my fault that Applebloom and her group made a huge mess!”
“From what I’ve heard, you were right in the thick of it.”
His mind flashes back to yesterday, on Equestria.
“We’re goin’ for our cutie marks in baking!” Applebloom yelled loudly. Lunar glanced up from my seat with mild interest. It seemed that every other day they were trying something else to get their mark.
Mrs. Cake was trying to diffuse the situation. “Haven’t you already tried to get your cutie marks in baking?”
Scootaloo popped up next to Applebloom. “Applebloom has, but we haven’t!” She said, gesturing to herself and Sweetie.
“Yeah!” Sweetie confirmed.
“But we’re really busy today, and...” Mrs Cake started, only to be cut off by Applebloom giving the owner her puppy dog eyes.
“Please Mrs. Cake? We promise that we won’t break anything.”
Lunar shook his head. With those three around, it was only a matter of time before something was broken.
“Well... I guess... But only if you have supervision. Pinkie’s out today visiting her family, Mr. Cake is watching the babies, and...” She trailed off, looking around the store.
“Flare! Would you come over here for a moment?”
He glanced around, looking for an escape. He knew what was coming, and he didn’t like it. Seeing no escape, he sighed and trotted his way over.
“Yes Mrs. Cake?”
“Would you watch these three as they bake some cupcakes? I have to be out front to serve customers.”
Lunar shifted uncomfortably from hoof to hoof.
“Um... Are you sure?”
“Yes, I am. You’re the perfect colt for the job.”
He ran through his mind, searching for an excuse, and came up blank.
Sighing, he nodded.
“Thank you Flare. Now girls, be sure to listen to Flare, okay?”
“Yes Mrs. Cake.” The trio nodded in unison.
“Good. Now you can make one batch of cupcakes each, okay?”
They nodded and ran off into the back, getting ready to make some goodies.
Lunar walked up to Mrs. Cake, shaking my head.
“What have you gotten me into?”
She laughed a little. “Relax, they’re not that bad.”
A loud bang immediately followed her words. The blue colt looked at her with a level stare.
“Sweetie Bell did it!” Scootaloo shouted.
“What!? No I didn’t! It was Applebloom!”
“Nuh-uh! It was Scootaloo!”
Lunar sighed. It was going to be a long day.
“It still wasn’t my fault!” Lunar said defending himself.
“You were in charge of those fillies, and I expect you to take responsibility.”
“Mo-oom. You know how the CMC’s can get.”
Lunar’s mother nodded, laughing a bit before regaining her composure.
“Yes, but you’re sixteen years old now. You should be able to handle three little fillies. Now, get up. The Cakes said that they would feed you breakfast, and you should be done by lunch.”
Lunar sighed again, before throwing his hooves over the edge of his bed and using his magic to place his glasses on his head.
“Now, I’m going to be out to Canterlot for the next two days. We think that we’re on a verge of a breakthrough with the magic that we’re using. If we manage to make this safe, it could revolutionize medicinal science!”
“And we could maybe cure my insomnia!” Lunar finished, mimicking his mom’s voice.
She laughed. “I know, I know. No dreams sucks.”
Well, you probably should know something about Lunar Flare. He’s told exactly one person in his life what happens when he sleeps, and she chalked it up to him being an insomniac...
Crazy people... Err... Pony.
Lunar had learned not to share his other life with either side.
“Watch it, or I may just let you suffer.”
Lunar rolled his eyes. “Okay Mom. Go get ready. I’ll see you then, yeah?
“Of course honey. Now go get ready. If I hear from the Cake’s that you didn’t show, there’ll be consequences.”
Standing, he went over to my bathroom, grabbing a comb in his light blue magic and running it quickly through his mane.
“I got it mom. Now go on. I’ll be fine.” Lunar says with a smile.
She sighed. “I know...” She said as she turned and left the room, walking towards the kitchen.
Glancing in the mirror, He check to make sure everything is as it should be. Blue body? check. Darker blue mane? Check. Purple eyes and a horn? Check. Everything seemed to be there. He once had woken up with a different colored mane.
That was a difficult situation to explain to his mom. Twilight and Redheart had chalked it up to an accidental magic discharge in the middle of the night and fixed it with their own. But Lunar knew better. He had dyed his hair on Earth, not realizing that it would affect him on Equestria.
There were so many things that he didn’t understand about his situation, and many things that he never would.
He glanced at the clock, and cursed under his breath. It was a quarter till 9 and he wanted to show up early.
Running down the stairs, he grabbed a donut off the counter and threw a quick ‘goodbye’ in the direction of his mother before bursting out the door and into the streets of Ponyville.
Nodding his head towards people he knew, and even an occasional ‘Hello’, he eventually made it to his destination, the best sweet confectionery in Ponyville, Sugarcube Corner.
“I’m here!” Lunar said as he burst into the store.
“Oh, hello Flare. Glad to see you’re on time.” Mr. Cake said as he glanced over the teen who was panting slightly. “We have you slated to help wash some dishes, but all in all it looks like it’s going to be a slow day. We may close up shop early.”
Lunar’s ears perked up at this piece of news, and Mr. Cake noticed and laughed. “I thought you might like that.”
Lunar nodded once, finishing up the donut he had grabbed. “Yeah. And, uh... Sorry about yesterday. I really have no idea what they did to make cupcake batter explosive...” He said, as his mind once again drifted back to yesterday.
“Okay, okay. Girls, if you all have you cupcake batter ready, pour it into the pans, okay?”
“Like this!?” Sweetie Bell asked, and Lunar looks over to see her just pouring the batter on the pan. Using his magic, he gently pulled the bowl so the batter was pouring into the hole.
“Like that. When it’s about halfway full, move onto the hole, and repeat.”
“Oh, okay!”
“Um... Flare?” Scootaloo said in a voice that Lunar didn’t like.
“Uh, yeah Scoot- Oh wow. How did you manage that?” Lunara said as he caught sight of the orange pegasus. She was dripping with batter.
“Uh... I don’t know? It just sorta happened?”
Lunar sighed. “Okay then, let’s go get you cleaned up.”
“Okay Flare.”
As Scootaloo and Lunar left, he turned around and said to the other two fillies. “Okay, I’ll put these into the oven when I get back, okay? Do not touch the oven.” He said, eyeing the two.
“Yes Lunar.”
He nodded, satisfied. The day was going by better than expected. They hadn’t done anything really bad or disastrous. Walking into the bathroom, he wetted some towels and threw them at Scootaloo, while she started to clean herself.
“You know, I’m impressed. You guys are actually doing this without anything going horribly wrong.”
“I know, right? It’s weird...”
A voice floated in from the kitchen. “Uh, Flare!?”
“Crap.”
Running back down to the kitchen, he was surprised at the state he saw it in. Batter was everywhere, and the oven was open and on.
“What happened!?”
“We were trying to put the cupcakes into the oven, and we tripped.”
“I see. What happened to not touching the oven?”
“Uh... Oh gee, look at the time, we gotta go.”
“No, you’re staying here and explaining what happened to the Cakes.
“But Flare-”
“No buts.”
Meanwhile Scootaloo had entered the kitchen.
“Aww... I missed it?”
Lunar facehoofed.
“And we may never know. Now come on, you’ve got a couple of dishes to wash.”
Lunar groaned, and followed him into the back.
It was going to be a long couple of hours.
