Beneath the Surface

Chapter 1: Slipping Away

The flooding river surrounds me, and the cold water chills me to the bone. The current is too strong and no matter how I fight and struggle against it, it continues to take me along. The storm rages as lightning flashes in the distance and the peel of thunder accompanies the roar of the river as current captures me and pulls me under. I tumble and roll in the murky depths, trying to find which way is the surface. Another flash of lightning illuminates the water and the muted thunder rolls. I fight and kick my way up. I had nothing left but adrenaline and fear; my strength already since faded. In one last desperate kick, I  feel the rain hit my face and I gulp for air. No sooner though, than the air was in my lungs, the current slams into a log that had become lodged on the shoreline. The daze of the impact left me confused. I could barely keep my head above the water. I could feel my adrenaline high starting to pass. I wasn't going last on my own much longer. I yell. I yell for help. I scream for somepony to fish me out, to save me from my soon to be watery grave. I plead and pray to Celestia and Luna to save me or spare me. A swell tumbles over me and I am lost beneath the surface. I choke on the water. I struggle uselessly, I cannot find the surface. My lungs burn as they demand oxygen. I am drowning. No longer able to hold my mouth shut, I suck a lungful of water down as the current carries me onward. The world fades away, the pain begins it dull as I stop caring. I float away  let myself drift into the darkness.
