My Little Dashie: First Park Visit/Flying Lesson Part 1
It’s been about one and half years since I found Dashie. I’ve been taking her to the park near my house daily now. It used to be whenever I could get a break from work, but I’ve gotten a raise so I don’t have to work as often or hard and can spend time with Dashie. She’s been trying to fly for quite some time now. She first tried when I first brought her out here to the park. I don’t ever want to forget that first day. I remember it so vividly.
I hadto carried her in my jacket just in case anyone was out. It was a warmer day than what we had, but there was still a gray kind of fog in the air and there was a feeling of gloom all around, but Dashie didn’t care, she saw the sun through the clouds and had a big smile on, and seeing that made me feel like we were in a big beautiful sunny field. I don’t think I ever brought her outside so her last memory of being outside (if she
can even remember) was when I had found her in her cardboard box when it was cold and damp out.
Once we made it to the park Dashie instantly squirmed out of my arm and almost fell. My heart stopped. I caught her just in time or else she would hit the gravel pavement. She continued to squirm.
“Hold on one minute Dashie” I said with ease, “Let me make sure no one’s around.”
She looked a little confused and discouraged, but she nodded. I did a couple of double takes and saw that the cost was clear. I set her on the ground and she scampered to the playground. She ran over to the slide. She tried climbing up the ladder to the top but couldn’t. I guess ladders aren’t made for hoofs.
“Daddy! Help please?” she had big eyes and lifted her arms up. I really don’t care anymore, my heart
exploded…twice!
I reached down to the little filly and set her at the top. She pushed with her front hoofs and down she went. “WHHEEE!” she exclaimed the short ride down. She must have really loved it because she was giggling with great excitement, I even heard a snort. This was so precious. I thank God I brought my camera, I would have died if I missed this. So I
took the picture, but I forgot flash was on! She still wasn’t entirely used to it. She just sat there, she blinked and rubbed her eyes for a second then a quick snerk came out and her giggle fest started all over again. She covered her mouth with her hoofs till she stopped. After regaining her breath she demanded another ride. There was absolutely no way I wasn’t going to give her another. So I set her and watched her go down again. She was even more ecstatic about it this time more than the first. “More, more!” she squealed excitedly, so I set her up again. This repeat 3 more times, then the 6th time I set her there she had a puzzled look on her face. “You ok honey?” I asked
curiously, “Don’t you want to go down again?” I asked with a more worried tone. She started “Daddy…”
“Yes Dashie? What is it?” I asked calmly.
“Daddy, will you go down with me?”
My eyes opened widely, and I grinned from ear to ear.
“Of COURSE I’ll go down with you”
The little filly smiled a huge smile, and snerked but quickly covered her mouth again. I climbed up with the little filly and set her in my lap. She tried pushing really hard to move us both, of course she couldn’t with her size so I moved my hand, to where she couldn’t see, to push us and down we went. We were laughing so hard, and when we were done laughing she
gave me a big hug and said “Thank you daddy!” I just smiled trying not to cry at how cute this was. She got up and scampered over to the swings. I didn’t feel like she could hold the chains very well so I told her “here Dashie, let’s go over
to these swings and I’ll push you ok?” She gave a big toothy smile and replied “Okay!” so I picked her up and set her in the toddler swing, she was just big enough to fit. I pushed her and she kept yelling “Faster! FASTER!” She was yelling and laughing.
“I can’t push you any faster Dashie.” I sadly said. But she was too busy yelling and laughing to hear. “Hold on, I’m gonna take another picture ok?” I said it loud enough for her to hear. “Okay!” she said. So I snapped the picture. “another great memory to keep…” I thought. Then I noticed she had stuck her arms out like a plane. “Is that why she likes these so much?” I thought to myself. “She is a Pegasus after all, maybe...she’s ready to fly.” I pulled her out of the swing and she gave me a
frown. “no more swing daddy…?” she said just so sadly and her earsdrooped.
“Maybe later? How about we play a game?” I asked her as I set her on the ground. her ears perked right back up and she smiled.
“what game daddy?”
“It’s called tag.” I started to explain. “first I tag you” and I poked her gently, “and then you run after me and try to tag me back, see?” I wanted to see if she could at least hover on her own, and I didn’t want to force her into anything so I thought this might be a good way to coax her into it, besides, running will be good for her anyway. So she started chasing after me and I playfully ran slow. She got me. “Okay daddy *giggle* your turn to get me!” she ran off. I let her run around for a minute saying while I playfully threatened “I’m gonna get’cha, better run faster.” “No, no!” she said laughing. I tagged her back and to see if she’d try to fly, I sped up gradually. I was looking behind at the galloping filly. After a minute or two she jumped and tried to flap her wings, she did it poorly
and tumbled to the ground...
“Oh no! Dashie!” I ran over to her. “Are you ok sweetheart? Are you
hurt???” she looked at me with big teary eyes and a trembling lip.
“owiee daddy…it hurts.” She tried to get up, but sat back down. “owieee, my knee hurts…” she placed her front hoofs on her knee, she started to cry a little and her nose began to run.
“Oh Dashie…” I said while I wiped her nose with a Kleenex I had in my
pocket.
“Make it better…?” She asked with a snob or two mixed in.
“Let me see ok?”
She started to uncover her knee but quickly covered it back up. “You be
careful?” she asked in a scared tone.
“Of course I will, I’ll make sure your ok”
“you pinkie promise?” she asked in a scared tone.
I chuckled to myself, as it reminded me of Pinkie Pie’s own Pinkie Promise. “I pinkie promise, now let daddy see?”
“o-kay…” she uncovered her knee.
“It’s just a little scrape honey, that’s all it is. It’s not too bad.” But uponsaying this I realized she WAS just a little filly, and to her it was the worst kind of pain. “how about daddy caries you home, and we take
care of it, and then we split some cookies?” She sniffed, but gave a smile and agreed. She stuck her arms up for me
to carry her. I carried her home, if not for her being worried about her knee she probably would’ve fallen asleep, she kept yawning and rubbing her eyes.
Once we arrived home I set her on the bathroom sink, she started to
look scared and her lip began trembling again. “It’s ok Dashie” I said in a
comforting voice “here, this’ll make it better.” I rubbed some Neosporin
on the scrape and put a Spongebob band-aid on it. As soon as she saw
the little yellow guy she sniffed, gave a big slack-jawed smile and
exclaimed “SPONGEBOB!” and looked at me with big wide eyes and
changed her open mouth smile to a toothy smile.
“Yeah!” I told her, “It is. I got these special just in case you get an owiee like the one of your knee!”
“Thanks daddy!” she exclaimed. “But. One more thing.”
“What’s that my little Dashie?” I asked curiously.
“Kiss it better?” She asked so adorably that there was no way I could refuse. So I kissed it better for her.
“Feels better?” I asked happily.
“Yeup!” she smiled again. “*yawn* daddy…” she said with droopy eyes, “I’m sleepy. Will you carry me to bed?”
“I guess I can.” I happily replied. I carried her to her to my bed and laid her down.
“Daddy?” she said.
“Hm?”
“Will you snuggle with me?” she asked tiredly and with closed eyes. Screw it, I will say it as much as I want. My heart not only exploded, it just totally burst!
“Oh Dashie…” I said with a tear in my eye, "of course I will…” I laid down beside her, she crawled on my chest and hugged me, and fell asleep….
