The Dark Awakening
Ch. 4: The Elusive Truth (CC)
Previous ChapterNext ChapterElusive had done some looking into what he thought was wrong with him. It led him to the place he knew he would likely end up in a search for knowledge on anything, but he'd hoped it would have been another library. Elusive took a deep breath as he stepped forward and knocked on the door to Dusk Shine's library, his mind whirling about enough to have needed days to actually process, though in reality only moments passed before he was brought back by a slightly worried looking unicorn.
“Wow, still got that black eye, huh Elusive? You want a book on how to get that to go away?” Dusk wasn't sure how long they were supposed to stick around, considering he'd never had one himself, but he didn't think they lasted about four days.
Elusive had gotten so used to the blackened ring around his eye, more from his being more concerned about bigger things than from his trying to overcome the change in his face. He wanted to reach and touch it, but caught himself and instead smiled a bit before speaking. “Oh, this? It's nothing. Should be gone before the end of the week. But since you mention a book, I am looking for one. I heard it was in the library here.”
Dusk almost instantly lightened up and smiled as he pulled Elusive inside the library, happily levitating books from their shelves, reading off titles excitedly before Elusive stopped him. “Uhm, Dusk, darling, I'm looking for a very specific book. If I remember it's called, um..” Elusive trailed off as he thought over how to ask for the book, but soon decided to just throw the dignity card out the window. “I'm looking for The Book on Pain and Punishment, the one by the famous gimp from years back.” He stood calmly, but firmly.
Dusk froze, his horn no longer glowing as the books all fell to the floor before he whipped around, mouth agape. “Wh-what book? I'm sorry, but I could have sworn you just asked for the most fucked up book in the library.”
“I believe you heard correct. I want The Book on Pain and Punishment.” Elusive didn't seem nervous, or even as though he may have confused the title. He seemed to know exactly what he was asking for, and that was what made Dusk a bit uncomfortable pulling the book from its place on the shelf and floating it to his bruised friend.
Elusive opened the book to the section he knew to be what would either explain what was happening or send him on yet another wild chase, but he soon found it was the former. His eyes widened as he read through the chapter about how the author had first discovered his masochism from a short scuffle with a friend, and that was all he had to see to convince himself, but he knew that the book would be his best way to explain things with Bubble Berry... Why was he the first thing to come to mind now? Deep down, Elusive knew why, but he only smirked as he asked to checkout the book. Dusk agreed and Elusive left for his boutique, though he made sure to slide a special card under the door of his favorite bakery on his way.
Elusive's Diary-
Journal entry #239
I've done it. I've set the wheels in motion. I've also learned what I once feared would be true. Now though, now I'm glad it is. I would love to expand on the plan, but I simply can't wait to see the sun rise, so I'm off to bed. I hope I was right about Bubble. If I am, then tomorrow can't come quickly enough.~ Elusive.
