I was riding happily in the carriage to Princess Celestia's castle for a visit. I hadn't seen her since my last visit and I was really excited to see everypony that had tried to help me. It will be great to see my older sister. I do enjoy her company and have gotten over the moon thing. It's behind me. I'm better now. We came to an abrupt stop and my body jerked slightly from the jolt.
I pranced happily up to the door and opened it and was glad to see Celestia was there.
She said snickering,"Oh hey Nightmare moon."
I was a little caught off guard but passed it of,"Hey sis how have you been?"
She kept snickering,"I've been good Nightmare moon."
Her calling me that did start to hurt a little on the inside.
I said,"I'm not Nightmare Moon anymore. You can stop calling me that I hate that name."
She wouldn't quit,"Oh okay Nightmare."
So I decided if she was going to be mean i'll be mean right back.
So I said,"I think I should go. I don't want to be where people have to live in the past."
But I don't think she had noticed at all she was on the floor in hysterics. I hated being Nightmare Moon. Being on the moon so long didn't help. Is that really what everypony thinks of me? Everypony was scared at my last visit. As the carriage was taking me to my castle I couldn't help but think of what she had done. She didn't even welcome me just insisted on calling me Nightmare Moon. Insisted on hurting me after all I had been through. But it wasn't her fault it was my fault. Even though I said I had put it behind me I never really have. It nags at the back of mind constantly wanting to remind me of how cruel I had been how everypony had hated and feared me.
I wish everypony would just forget any of that had happened. I wanted to be normal to have friends and do normal pony things. I hadn't even noticed that we had arrived at the castle until the carriage came to a stop and it jerked so hard I slammed my head on the board in front of me. I rubbed at my head and then sauntered into the castle. I went into the bathroom and stared into the mirror. Then the reflection changed and I saw Nightmare Moon. I turned my head but peered from the corner of my eye at the mirror and the reflection was laughing at me.
I ran outside into the fresh air that's what I needed fresh air then I looked away from the blinding sun trying to shield my eyes. Then looking at the sun reminded me of Celestia and I stared straight at it and felt the hatred for myself grow inside of me like a seed being watered b me self loathing. What am I anymore? I'm not Luna.
I stood outside and stared at the sun until the sun set and my eyes couldn't take it anymore. Good I don't want to see the stupid sun anyway.
I sauntered out of the castle after the moon had risen and though how wonderful it was to be able to do that but then my thoughts led up to becoming Nightmare Moon and I immediately looked in the opposite direction at the beautiful lake that sparkles in the moonlight. I wish somepony else could see this but everyone shuns away the night by sleeping through it.
I sauntered around the castle grounds looking at the things that look so much more beautiful at night as they sparkle,glow, or just are plain amazing. I walked all over Canterlot looking at the beautiful reflections of the moon but not looking far enough down to see my reflection I can't look. No. I will never look at myself again. I walked back to the castle insistently wondering what everypony thinks of me. Do they think i'm still the horrible Nightmare Moon, too.
I went to bed and dreamt of everypony standing around with the sun at it's highest peak beating down on me while everypony laughs and chants Nightmare Moon over and over again until I run away and come to a lake and look down and see nothing but Nightmare Moon staring back at me from the water. No matter how hard I try to make her reflection go away I can't and then I see a piece of blue flowing hair from the corner of my eye and I turn my head just enough to see the blue hair on me of Nightmare Moon's. Then wake up thrashing as i'm trying to run from nightmare Moon and I keep thrashing and screaming until the guards come in and pin me down until I calm myself.
I look around at all the pillows and blankets everywhere and go to pick them up but the second I get off the bed I immediately fall and I just don't have enough will to stand back up so I just stay there staring at the skylight at the beautiful moon until I'm calm enough to sleep.
In the morning I pull myself with all my might to get up and I stretch my the ache in my neck. I make my bed and then meander out to the courtyards then to the entrance then to Canterlot. Form there I don't know what to do. I guess i'll just finally find put what everypony thinks of me. As I walk past I do stand a bit by the whispering ponies until I hear one say, "That's Nightmare Moon. Don't look at her. She's evil,mean, and nasty. Just walk away slowly." This hurt me deeply more than anything but I pull myself together knowing it's only one pony. But I hear more repeat similar things. Is this what they think I am? Has nobody learned/ I thought we fixed this last time but that was only in Ponyville.
So I went to Ponyville and heard the same things over and over,"Don;t look or talk to her." or "Just walk away slowly." So it's true. I went to one of Twilight's friend's houses they don't think of me an Nightmare Moon. I went to Rarity's and knocked on the door and stood and waited a while for a reply and out of the corner of my eye I see something peek from behind the curtains from one of the windows then revert back in the home in fear.
I guess this is truly who I am. I flew back to Canterlot deep in thought of why everypony is doing this. But I wan't going home just yet I stopped at Celestia's castle. I must find out the truth from her. I walked in the door and marched up to Celestia and ignored the shock on her face.
I said, "Do you really think of me as Nightmare Moon? Is that what you really want to call me after all I've been through?"
She replied in a shocked tone,"I was just joking, Luna! It wasn't meant to harm you!"
I didn't believer her, " yeah really well everypony thinks the same thing!"
Then I stormed out leaving her with a dumbfounded and surprised look on he face.
Now I am Nightmare Moon this is what they want that is what they will get. I finally had the courage to look in the mirror I stared long and hard at my reflection feeling the same thing that broke inside of me 1000 years ago break again this time forever. I watched as me short light blue mane grew so long and I could see it go transparent and florescent. The color turning a hint darker. I felt my body grow. I closed my eyes as the beautiful change came over me. When it was over I opened my eyes and looked at the better side of me.
This pleases me finally I am who i'm supposed to be. My dark laughter echoed around the room. So my laughter grew louder and louder. They have the real me back now. This is the real me if they want to insist that this is who I am then I guess it's true.
