Twilight was awoken by the soft sound of playing of a cello, she rubbed her eyes; looking out the window, she saw the grey mare move the bow back and forth on the cello, making the beautiful song flutter through the quiet town. Waking others alike, after a few seconds, Twilight's smile turned into a frown. Opening the window, she shouted to Octavia;
"Octavia!" A few seconds later, the cello playing stopped and the cellist turned to the lavender unicorn with a face that read 'Please-stop-my-music-so-I-can-hear-you-ramble-on-about-how-a-small-part-of-it-was-off-by-a-bit'. "After ten seconds, use a fifty degree angle, not a ninety; it stops the squeakiness of the B as you change to A"
As the cellist grumbled about having to restart because some magic student wouldn't let it be slightly off perfection, she started to play again; after ten seconds went, the unicorn moved away from the window, looking pretty happy. As she continued her Monday morning routine. As she walked to Spike's bed, she nudged at it, budged at it slightly, she punched it then shoulder plowed it; making Spike finally wake up; mumbling about his latest nightmare. Though she protested, Spike still talked about his bad dream;
"It was about the vampires again." He tapped at his claws, as if it would make him remember the bad dream.
"Again? Seriously?" She muttered loudly while she made her bed.
"Yeah but this time it was different." He murmured slightly on 'different' darting his eyes to the floor as he murmured.
"Different how?" She rolled her eyes. "Different that Rarity wasn't clutching at your ankles at the end of this one?" She chuckled; throwing the pillows at the far end of the bed.
"Very funny." He sulked, crossing his arms.
"I know." She laughed. "But, seriously, different how?" She folded the blanket.
"Well, I didn't have a stake, there was no Rarity-"
"Different, indeed." She chuckled again; throwing the duvet up.
"Again, terribly funny," he sulked for a second time. "But I was in a pub where there was a few other stallions and we were all fighting the vampires off with holy water and glasses."
"That is different," she said, making Spike's bed. "Maybe you should write a book about it."
"How do you even start a book?" He questioned dumbly.
"With a pen and paper, just don't write a trilogy of them," she tapped Spike blanket down, to release some air under it. "You know how Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash are with pranks." She smiled.
"Indeed, I do," he smirked at the memory of the pranks. "Indeed, I do."
"How will you even start it?" She said, walking to the stairs.
"With me being awesome!" He smirked.
"You know that is a really Mary Sue way of writing." She said, trying to make Spike not write wish fulfillment.
"Who is Mary Sue?" He tilted his head at the question.
"Mary Sue is an author who always write about herself and always makes herself be the best at everything in the book." She tutted.
"Sounds...selfish." He tutted as well.
"She isn't selfish, Spike," she turned. "She just has an ego bigger than two Rainbows"
"Wow, that is one big ego." He shuddered at the thought.
"Indeed, it is Spike, indeed it is." With that, she trotted down the stairs.
Sugar Cube Corner was always less busy at breakfast time, as no body wanted five hours of sugary energy before the day had begun; Spike and Twilight were the only ones there except for a stallion and a mare with a cupcake each.
Twilight walked up to the counter and rang the bell as Spike found a table. After two seconds, a pink pony sprang up from kitchen, with a grin fit for a clown.
"Hiya Twilight!" She was as giddy as always.
"Hello, Pinkie; how are you?" She grinned, Pinkie Pie's overall happy nature would cheer up the rainiest of days.
"As good as always!" She chuckled. "I got your Early Nerd special!" She grinned.
Twilight chuckled at the name. "Thank you, Pinkie," she looked back at Spike sitting at a far table. "Oh and one for Spike"
"Which one; Dragon Delight, Spike Savory, Crystal Charm?" She chortled away at every word.
"Crystal Charm sounds nice," she said, pulling a coin purse out of her saddle bag. "Oh, and that Early Nerd special!"
"Coming right up! That will be five bits!" She said as Twilight threw down the five bits.
After taking the little tray of a red cupcake covered in fake crystals and a blue one, decorated to look like a desk with an open book on it, and setting it down on the table. They continued the conversations on Spike's bad dream;
"So, vampires?" Twilight said, eyeing her cupcake, the icing was as thick as snow and as blue as a summer sky; with enough sugar to need a wrap up to clean up.
"Yeah," completely devouring the cupcake in one bite, leaving a red mark around his mouth. "It was vampires." He said, licking around his mouth.
"What sort were they?" She said, taking the smallest of bites out of the icing; her pupils shrunk with the sugar rush from the nibble.
"Sort?" He questioned, licking the paper casing to scavenge any little pieces.
"Yeah, were they; just fangs and claws, had magic even without a horn or did they sparkle?" She said, taking a bigger nibble out of the cake; making her pupils shrink again.
"They had powers and used their fang and claws but they didn't have horns." He tapped his head where, if he was a unicorn, he would have a horn.
"Well, they are vampires, it is excepted." She spoke with a cheek stuffed with frosting, her pupils almost just dots of a quill's ink.
"Excepted? Excepted how?" He questioned.
"Well, vampires' blood is half blood, well duh," she chuckled. "And half bad Aura, the magical element needed for magic."
"So; your horn is basically a thing that makes Aura?"
"No, it is storage for it."
"Okay; but they could teleport, they could lift the stallions and throw them and they could...use mind control." He trailed off.
"Well, they are immortal; so they have a lot of time to train with magic." She chortled at the idea of someone immortal reading through a magic book like a filly.
"Okay; so that clears that up...you gonna finish that?" He said with a mixture of glee and hope in his voice.
"Fin-" She was cut off by a purple blur and a belch. "Spike!"
"Oops, sorry"
When they got back to the Library, there was a breeze; that had made some paper scatter themselves across the floor, Twilight picked them up in a grumpy manner and Spike shuffled a few books, trying to look like he was helping.
"Spike!" She shouted over her shoulder, picking up the paper in a purple Aura.
"Yeah?" He said, shuffling a magic book left to right.
"Did we leave the door open?" She shouted, slightly softer, shuffling the paper into an neat pile.
"No, we locked it. Then you made me go back and check...twice!" He added an angry tone to 'twice' making Twilight turn around with a scowl.
"Sorry, I wanted to be safe." She snapped back.
"Too safe, literally two safe!" He chuckled at his bad pun.
"Great joke." Twilight muttered sarcastically.
"I know." He said triumphantly, unaware of the sarcasm.
"Help me with the new reports." She trotted upstairs.
"Fine, fine." He murmured to himself.
As he carried on upstairs, the basement door bounced against the wooden wall; wide open to the darkness.
As Spike entered the room, Twilight was already set up; quill, paper, chair set to perfect angle and with the patented 'Twilight-is-thinking' face.
"So, what is this reports about?" Spike said, jumping on his bed.
"A new creature, friendship lesson and magic." She spoke under her breath from the desk.
"New creature?" He said from the bed, with a bit of worry. "Sort of vampire?"
"No; a parallel universe one called 'a chubby'." Again, she spoke under her breath.
"A chubby?" He tilted his head towards the desk.
"It's looks like us except they are round, about the size of a cupcake, in the shape of the ball." Twilight made the size of a small ball by raising her hoof slightly above the desk.
"They can't be dangerous." He said, with a smirk.
"No they aren't, they just about make ponies go... HNNGGG!" Twilight made an impression of an heart attack and made herself and Spike laugh madly,
"Like they give them heart attacks?" He questioned stupidly.
"Sort of, if the pony thinks they are cute; then they have heart attacks." She said.
"Sounds odd."
"It is a bit but it's a creature that can cause serious damage, so it needs to be documented."
"Fine."
After about an hour of Twilight noting down everything possible about these 'Chubbies', she scrolled the paper and said to Spike;
"Send it off, please." Sounding quite posh.
"Yes, Madam, do you want tea too?" He spoke, mocking the mistake.
"No," she scowled at him. "Just send the letter." She threw the letter to Spike, hitting his forehead. Chuckling, she lifted the letter back off the floor, basking it in purple Aura, and gave it to him.
"Fine, fine." He threw it in the air and caught it in his jaw; blowing fire, it burned up, sending it's smoke out the window.
"Show off." She huffed.
"Just because I'm better than you?" He strutted around.
"You want to be a mare?" She said with a smirk.
"Okay, okay!" He fell to his knees and put his claws together, praying; "please don't! Please!"
"Fine, get up." As commanded, he got up and lay back on the bed.
"What now? Magic or friendship?"
"Magic maybe."
"Fine; what did you do with magic?" Showing no real interest in knowing.
"I learned a sleep spell, time spell, fire spell, race manipulation spell and a teleport spell."
"A teleport spell? You know how to teleport!"
"Yes but this is different, it teleports two objects and replaces them with each other."
"Uh?"
"If I had a bowling ball at that end of the room," pointing it the side with the stairs. "And a plate on that end." Pointing near the window. "If I used the spell, they would swap places as they were just there."
"Oh, so what does that have? A military advantage?" He murmured.
"I didn't think of that! Thanks Spike!" She said as she scribbled down the military advantages it could have.
"What are you writing? How you could change a stallion's spear into a banana?" He chortled as she did, together in unison.
"Maybe, Spike, maybe."
"So; write the other stuff down then I nap."
"Fine."
As Twilight wrote down the rest of her magic and events of friendship reports; Spike napped, only to be awoken by Twilight running around.
"What is it?" Spike asked, barely wake, looking half dead.
"Monsters, monsters!" She blurted.
"Uh? Monsters? Did you just say monsters?" Unaware of his surroundings, he stumbled around drunkenly.
"Yes, vampires or zombies; I couldn't tell!" She screeched.
Spike's vision had finally come back, only to see that Twilight was wild eyed with a chair as a shield and a candle as a torch.
"Vampires and zombies?" He spoke sarcastically. "Are you being serious?"
"Yes, yes I am. I almost got bit and you wouldn't wake up!"
"Ha, ha; you really think I'll believe there are vampires in here right-"
A loud crash and a growl cut him off from downstairs.
"Yes, I think you will believe me."
"What do we do now?"
"We try and keep them in this library!"
