Prologue: A Chat With Blueblood

Summer.

Most people believed Spring was the season that new love blossemed and people did all that "head over heels" bullshit. Not that you believed in that stuff in the first place, love at first sight only happened in stories.

Back to the topic at hand, you thought Summer was when love truly sprung forth. Maybe it was because that was the best time to go to the beach, someplace you loved. Maybe it was because you, along with all the other females in Equestria, got hornier then a drunk college girl. Note to self: Investigate sexual patterns in relation to heat level. Either way, Summer was the true season of love in your book.

Now, about that love... why did it have to be with her? You gaze into the mirror, your reflection gazing back. "Napoli Hestia... what have you gotten yourself into?" You mumble to your other half and hang your head, your arms resting on the counter.

The Hestia family was a name few didn't know and fewer antagonized. One of the founding members of Canterlot and the Solar Empire, the Hestia name has been alongside the Ruling Sisters and other noble names such as Blueblood and Armstrong for generations. With your father being Captain of the Guard for 30 years and mother being a close advisor to Celestia, your family held a great deal of power with its name. Being born with that name meant a good deal of responsabilities and high expectations, as with any family that held Noble status. Responsabilities and expectations you never wanted.

You grew up exactly like one would expect a rich, noble child to grow up: well-learned, very talented, and kept solely to the Noble community. And you hated every moment of it. Well, most of it. Still, it wasn't the life you wanted. But it was the life you were stuck with until you turned eighteen and moved to where you lived now: Ponyville. Yes, you left some friends behind, as well as your family, but you missed one person in particular; your best friend, Prince Blueblood. You knew his reputation when it came to... well, anyone, but women in specific. You wished you could tell these people that you only had to get to know him. As for the women part... you, and you alone, knew the prince's one secret: he is gay.

Guess you have more in common than you thought.

Wait, you don't know that for sure yet.

Letting out a massive sigh, you walk to your bed and flop onto your back, your smartphone tumbling from your pocket as you do. You pick it up and unlock it, scroll through your contacts, find the contact named "Blue", and type the following message:

Blue, we really need to talk.

And hit "Send".

A few moments later, the phone vibrates and the screen lights up.

Nalie, how nice to hear from you. What is it?

You think for a moment.

I'd rather not text about it. Are you free?

One Mississippi, two Mississippi, three-

For you, I am always free. When will you be here?

When will you be there?

I'll take the express train. 15 minutes.

And you're off for the station.

The train ride was uneventful, as per usual. Pretty to look out the window, but uneventful.

Once you reached Blueblood's room, the guard escorting you huffed, "Here you are, Lady Hestia." And then left back down the hall. You gave a sigh of annoance before opening the door and your mild frown becoming a warm smile.

"Hey Blue. I'm glad to see you," you say warmly.

Blueblood looks up from his desk to look at you, the same smile on his face, "Nalie! It's been ages!"

You get wrapped into a massive hug, one Blueblood would never give anyone else. You seperate and he holds you at arm's length. "Now, what is it that you need to talk about? Here, let's go someplace a touch more private." He says as he wraps an arm around your shoulders and steers you for a balcony, one that overlooks all of Canterlot and the seemingly endless country surrounding the mountain. You sit down on a padded bench and Blueblood sits across from you, the glourious view just to your left. A small coffee table rests between the benches, one that already has a teapot and cups on it. "Green tea?" He asks as he pours a cup.

"Yes, thank you." You say as you grab the cup and sip the warm liquid. He always knew how to calm you down.

He takes a sip of his own. "I was never a fan of green tea, but it can be quite enjoyable now and again, especially with good friends. What is it you wanted to talk about?"

"Well..." You feel a blush form as you gaze out to the magnificent scenery. Blueblood waits patiently for you to gather the courage to say what it is you need to say. A cool Summer breeze blows past you, helping cool your warm cheeks. "I... think I'm in love." You say.

Blueblood raises an eybrow. "You think?"

"Um, y-yes. Think." You smile nevously.

"Right, and who is the lucky man?" Blueblood asks, siping at his tea.

"It... it's a girl." You stammer out, your blush growing.

Had Blueblood been with anyone else, he never would have done what he just did.

A spit take.

He looks at you in shock, "Really??"

You glare at him, "I didn't act like that when you came out of the closet!"

"Yes, yes, but you also weren't drinking tea. I mean... I thought you were straight."

"I thought you were straight." You mumble and sip at your tea.

"What was that, Nalie? Nevermind, how long have you... felt this way?" Blueblood asked, once again composed.

You take a deep breath, "A month or so ago, the Summer Sun Celebration before last week's Gala..."
