There was a slight humming coming from the air surrounding him. That, mixed with the tingling feeling all over his body was enough to wake Bright from his slumber.
Bright sat up in the bed, and saw that there were small specs of white light floating all around him. He had no clue as to what they were, but he was entranced by them. They were beautiful, yet slightly unnerving at the same time. He leaned forward to inspect one of them closer, and it came closer to him. He stared at it curiously. What was it? He didn't know. But he was startled by it when it hovered closer and went into his chest. There was a slight burning sensation from it, but then it felt better than he could believe. Actually, he was feeling better than he had felt before in his life. His chest was completely healed, and so was his leg and every other wound on his body.
"Good to see you're feeling better, 22737."
Bright sighed. "Is it time to go already?"
There was a silence that felt heavy between them. And as it went on, it got even worse.
There was a loud booming sound as a cannon went of behind the walls of Bright's room, and it was followed by drums, horns... and that horrible cheering.
"Does that mean yes?" Bright asked.
"Yes. It's time to get your gear."
Bright looked over to the source of the voice and he saw, of course, that same suited stallion that seemed to be haunting him.
"Get up, you're already late."
Bright pulled himself up from the bed and followed him through the doors and down the long corridor to another room filled with arms and armor. "So, who am I fighting?"
"An opponent who's too much for you to handle," the suited pony said darkly.
Bright blinked. "Wait, what do you mean? How is he too much to handle?"
The suited pony sighed. "Because nopony has been able to beat him in the years that he's been here."
"He's really that good?" Bright asked.
"Good has nothing to do with it!" he yelled with so much venom in his voice Bright that he might kill him. "He is not good! He's a god damned murderer!" he closed his eyes and sighed deeply. "Somepony should have killed him a long time ago."
Bright had never seen him show any kind of emotion before, so he was thrown off by this sudden display.
"Get your armor 22373, the fight will be starting soon." he said slowly.
Bright nodded and started look through the racks of gear. Some of it was simple protection. But some of it... well, there was gear that not even the private collectors could have. He pulled a helmet off of the rack that looked like it belonged to the guards here. He also donned a heavy chest plate, a piece to go between his wings, and armor for his legs. He pulled two swords from the rack, and put throwing knives in his wings, and took some small daggers just to be safe. He was ready.
"Is that was you're going to fight him with?" he asked incredulously.
"Is it too much?" Bright asked him.
"You can never have too much," he said simply. Then he looked away. "22737, I know you want to go home to your wife and child. But so does your opponent."
"He has a family too?" Bright asked.
"Yes, and he loves them more than anything in the world," the stallion said, looking back at Bright.
"Well it doesn't matter," Bright said harshly. "If he's all that's in the way of me and my family, then he's going to die."
There was another silence between them.
Then the suited pony smiled. "Have I ever shown you the picture I have of my daughter and her child?"
"No?" Bright said slowly.
"Well, I think I should show you who I'll be fighting for," he said.
Bright blinked. Had he heard right? "Wait... I'm fighting... you?"
The stallion didn't answer. He only pulled out a small photograph and held it out to Bright with his hoof.
Bright looked down at the picture, and his eyes widened. He snatched the picture from the stallion and looked at it closely. "No. No way. What the hell are you doing with this picture?!"
"My daughter sent it to me just under a year ago. I would have thought that you would recognize it, seeing as you took it."
Bright looked back at the picture. There on the piece of paper was his wife, and his daughter. "What do you mean, 'my daughter'?" Bright asked without looking away from the picture.
The suited stallion snorted. "Haven't you figured it out? The mare that you married, Mystique, is my daughter. And for the years that I've been here I've killed countless to be able to get back to her. And now that Gore is gone, you're the only one left for me to kill."
Bright didn't know whether he should believe him or not. Whether he should use his sword to cut his head off, or if he should wish him luck.
"But even in the event that you beat me... I've arranged for all of my winnings to be transferred to Mystique's bank account."
"W- what are you telling me this for?" Bright asked.
The stallion looked Bright in the eyes. "Because I want you to know that if you do win, you need to love them enough for the both of us."
Bright didn't respond at first. But eventually, he found his voice. "I can do that. I can do that without any trouble at all."
The suited pony smiled at him. "Good. But, do you think you can give your father a hug before you try to kill him?"
Bright laughed a bit. "Yeah, I can do that... Dad." He extended his front hooves and caught the stallion in an embrace.
"Thank you," the stallion said.
Bright felt an enormous pain in his side, and he could barely breathe.
"Thank you, for being so stupid." The pony threw Bright to the side. "Do you really think that I'd let you take me away from them? A little prick like you? You don't deserve them. You never deserved them. And you'll never deserve them."
Bright struggled for air. "W- w... why...?"
The stallion pulled the knife back into his sleeve and pulled a bottle out of his pocket. "Because you were supposed to die when you fought Mauler." He them poured it over Bright's wound, and it closed instantly. "When you won, I was furious, to say the least."
"B- but I've a- alway- always taken care o- o- of th- them..." Bright struggled to say, trying to get to his hooves.
"That doesn't matter, you foolish little colt. Just because you take care of something, that doesn't make it yours." He then capped the bottle and put it back in his pocket. "This infusion will keep you from bleeding out, but you'll still have your internal damage. So if you want to live longer than a minute, I suggest not doing anything strenuous."
Bright used the wall to hep him get up. He looked at the suited stallion with nothing but hate. "You're going to burn in the deepest pits of hell."
The stallion shrugged. "It doesn't matter as long as I can spend the rest of my days with my child and grandchild." He chuckled slightly. "And maybe we'll meet there and we can settle our differences."
"I'm going to kill you." Bright sucked in a shaky breath. "Even if I don't make it out of here alive, I'll make sure you don't either."
The stallion just pressed a button on a small box on the wall. "We're ready."
The doors started to slowly open, grinding on their hinges.
"Welcome, fillies and colts! It's a beautiful day, and it's about to get even better! Yes, that's right! It's time for some murder!"
Bright and the stallion both walked out of the room and in to the arena. The sun was high in the sky, there were barely any clouds, and there was a cool breeze blowing through the arena.
"That's right everypony! Slasher is going up against the most brutal killer we have here today. It's our most favorite murderer, Suit!"
The cheers from the audience grew to a point that made it almost impossible to hear the announcer.
"Yes, you heard me right! It's Suit versus Slasher! Who will win?! Probably Suit. But don't let that get you down, Slasher! I'm sure that you'll last at least a minute!"
There was a loud fanfare from the horns, and then everything went silent.
"Well, don't just stand there you lazy sods! Murderer each other!"
The suited stallion, known as Suit to the crowds, started walking forward.
"You don- don't have to," Bright wheezed.
"Yes, I do," Suit responded. He lunged at Bright quick as lightning, and struck him on the side of his head.
Bright took the blow just under his ear. Instantly a rush of pain shot through his system, and he had trouble standing up right.
Suit swung again, catching Bright under his chin, sending him reeling.
"Get him! Kill him! Murder him! Make him pay for killing my date!"
Bright finally caught himself, forcing himself to stand straight. He saw Suit coming at him and flapped his wings, sending all ten knives sailing towards him.
Suit instantly dropped to the ground, avoiding the knives easily. He then followed up by kicking out Bright's leg, making him fall to the ground.
Bright hit the ground hard, losing his breath. He looked up to see Suit above him, staring down with disgust.
"I knew you were weak, but I had no idea that you were this pathetic," Suit said with hate in his voice.
"Please... stop," Bright tried.
Suit lifted his hoof, and stomped down hard on Bright's head. Even though he was wearing a helmet, the impact alone made Bright dizzy.
Suit lifted his hoof again, but Bright rolled out of the way and got to his hooves. He wasn't out of this yet. "I- if you won't stop, th- then I'll have to stop you."
Suit rolled his eyes. "You should spare yourself the pain and just let me kill you. I'll make it quick if you do."
Bright snorted and tried to rush Suit, but because he was dizzy and bleeding internally, he went off course and straight into Suit hoof.
As Bright rushed Suit, he pulled his hoof back and threw it forward, crashing into Bright's muzzle.
Bright's nose was broken, and blood was gushing out at an alarming rate.
Suit swung again while Bright was distracted by the blood running down his face and connected with his jaw. It went sideways and there was a snapping noise, signaling that it had broken.
Bright hit the ground hard. He was bloody, broken, and bleeding both externally and internally. Even so, he refused to give up. He got to his hooves and pulled the sword off of his back and held it in his broken jaw. It hurt beyond any kind of pain that he could imagine, but he endured it. The blood from his nose was running freely into his mouth and down his throat, making it harder to breathe than even before, but he ignored it. There was a ringing in his ears, and he could hardly stand up right, but he fought the urge to stop.
"Why can't you just make this easier for both of us and give up?" Suit growled.
Bright didn't respond. He only walked forward slowly, baring his teeth and holding the sword.
Suit only shook his head. "I'll make it quick, out of respect for your spirit." He walked forward so he was right in front of Bright.
Bright swung his sword, but the pain from his broken jaw caused him to gasp and he breathed in a large amount of blood, and he gagged and choked on it. He dropped his sword on the ground, and couldn't do anything but stand there, choking on his own blood.
Suit shot his hoof out to the side and a long, thin blade came out of his sleeve. He then jabbed his hoof at Bright, but he held up his hoof and the armor there stopped the blade.
The force that Suit put into the attack caused Bright to stumble.
Suit rushed forward when he lost his balance and swung his hoof at Bright's neck.
Bright's eyes widened, but he had no time to do anything else.
The knife went deep in to Bright's throat. Suit twisted the blade, causing more blood to spill out of the wound. He pulled the blade out, then stabbed it back in at another spot on his neck.
Bright couldn't move. He could feel the pain of the knife. He could feel himself falling to the ground. He could feel Suit lift his head and cut his throat open. He could feel every drop of blood leave his body. He could feel himself die. He could feel the nothingness of death. Then, he felt nothing.
Suit wiped his blade off with Bright's mane. Once it was clean, he pulled it back into his sleeve, concealing it once more.
"Well, you saw it hear first folks. Suit really is unstoppable. He killed our champion, Slasher. The very same pony who ended Gore's reign of mutilation and murder. So let's hear it for Suit, our number one murderer!"
Suit walked to the door leading out.
It opened to reveal the two princesses, Celestia and Luna.
"It seems as though you've earned your freedom," Celestia said softly.
"Yes, I did," Suit said as he walked past them.
"You realize that if you ever speaks of this place, you shall be sent back and made to fight again," Luna said harshly.
"Don't worry," Suit said, "I plan to forget about this place as soon as I can."
"That's good," Celestia said. "And I'm sorry that you had to do that to your own son."
Suit scoffed as he stuffed his belongings in to a large black bag. "He was never my son, and he would never have been even if he was still alive."
Celestia's expression was shocked. "Do you really think that?"
Suit strapped the bag to his back and turned to face her. "What do you think?" he growled at her.
"We remember when you first came here," Luna said. "We talked, and you were such a nice pony."
Suit glared at Luna. "Sorry, but there's something about spending over a decade in here killing people just to survive that changes you for the worse."
"Maybe you are correct," Luna said softly. "But still, we are sorry to see you in such a state."
Suit snorted. "Don't worry, you'll never see me again after today." With that he walked over to the princesses.
"Are you ready?" Celestia asked.
"Of course I'm fucking ready!" Suit yelled, irritated.
Both of the princesses nodded at him and lit up their horns with magic. They cast the spell, and he was released from the magical bonds that held him in their service.
Suit smiled and sighed. "Ah, to be free once again. Now, if you would be so kind as to send me to my daughter's home, I would be very thankful."
Once again, the princesses started their magic. They focused on the target, and they cast the spell.
There was a light, and Suit was suddenly standing in front of a small house in Ponyville. He walked up to the door and knocked lightly.
There was a slight noise behind it, then it opened. The one who opened it though, was not his daughter.
"Excuse me, but is this the home of a unicorn mare named Mystique?" Suit asked.
The stallion stepped out of the doorway and showed himself to Suit.
Suit gasped. It was one of the guards from the arena. He went for his knife, but the guard was already swinging a sword at his neck. It connected, and Suit fell to the ground gasping for air.
"This isn't her home any more. We've taken care of miss sexy and her cute little kid already," the guard said with a sick smile on his muzzle. "And I must say, for a seven year old filly, she sure could show a stallion a good time."
Suit tried to get up, but the guard stuck his sword through his chest. Blood started flowing out of his mouth, and he couldn't breathe.
"Well, some fighter you were. I was told that you were some big deal back in the arena," the guard mocked. He then started to drag Suit in to the house.
"I- I thought I was free!" Suit yelled at the guard.
"you fucking idiot; nopony gets out of The Pit alive." The guard threw him on a pile of something soft, warm, and wet.
Suit looked at what he was laying on, and saw the mutilated body of his daughter with pieces missing. He felt like throwing up. He felt like screaming. He felt like crying. But he couldn't do anything. He was dying, and he knew it.
"Don't be sad though. You're going to get a funeral fit for a king," the guard said.
Suit could feel the guard pouring some kind of thick liquid over him and the corpse of his daughter. But before he died, he needed to know why. Why they betrayed him. "Why...?"
"Huh? Why what?"
"Why... Why did you kill my daughter? Why did you kill my grandchild?"
The guard barked a harsh, cruel laugh at him. "Don't worry, the little one is still alive and well."
Suit's eyes widened. "W- what?"
"Yeah. We just couldn't pass up a tasty little score like her. So the guys took her back home." There was a clicking noise. "Don't worry though. We'll make sure she feels very loved. We all will." The guard laughed again. A sound that torn t the sanity of Suit.
"You're... going... to burn," Suit breathed.
"Yeah, probably. But at least I'll go there knowing that I beat the 'best fighter' in the arena." He then dropped what he was holding, and the room burst into flames. "See you in hell, Suit." Then he galloped out of the house, leaving Suit to burn to death, dying slowly, and painfully. Bright was right. He was going to burn.
