"Hey, Fluttershy where are you going?" Rose yelled.
"Come on Flutters, we're going shopping!" Lily screamed.
Please!" Daisy begged.
Fluttershy ran into her cottage with tears in her eyes, and a letter sticking out of her saddlebag and slammed the door. She cried and cried as she read the the letter over and over. The letter, written in beautiful script:
Dear, Miss. Fluttershy,
We regret to inform you that your dearest friend, Miss. Rainbow Dash, has tragically passed. Unfortunately, an accident in training for a new routine for the Wonderbolts. A memorial will be held on the 21st of May. We do hope you can attend as we know Miss. Rainbow was a true hero to our team and all of Equestia. We apologize for your loss and due hope you are able to heal.
Sincerely,
Miss. Spitfire
Maybe it would less painful if she had someone to comfort her. Fluttershy knew all of her friends were gone. Twilight passed in an accident with a rigged carriage, Applejack died in a train crash going to visit her cousins in Appleloosa, Pinkie left in a "ribbon accident", and Rarity had a sowing mishap that sent her departure.
"I'm done. Nothing left matters." Fluttershy muttered.
She locked the door and closed all the shutters. She sat there, desolate and alone. Fluttershy was now dead like her friends. Dead inside. Fluttershy didn't even want to live anymore. She sat there and thought. All of her friends died young and she wasn't there at there funerals because she couldn't bear to see there limp bodies, lying there, never able to laugh or sing or have fun with her ever again. May 21st past without a thought. Fluttershy looked at some of the photos of the six, the five, four, three, two, and finally a photo of just her, all alone. That was when Fluttershy couldn't take it anymore. She ran over to her kitchen and look everywhere for a knife. She found one and aimed it at her chest. Just as the blade was about to puncture her chest she heard a voice, faint and beautiful, softly singing.
Golden slumbers kiss your eyes,
Smiles await you when you rise.
Sleep,
pretty filly,
Do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby.
Cares you know not,
Therefore sleep,
While over you a watch I'll keep.
Sleep,
lovely flower,
Do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby.
Fluttershy dropped her knife as she slowly wandered to her bed without a second thought. The words soothed and calmed her as collected as she drifted off into a long sleep.
As Fluttershy slept she heard the voice speak and sing to her.
My Fluttershy,
I have been sent by a force stronger than the princesses themselves, to protect and teach you. I am here to guard you, so that no one may harm you again. I am your Guardian Angel, Fluttershy.
"But, I'm not sure I even deserve a Guardian Angel. You should find someone who really needs one." Fluttershy insisted.
My child, too long you have been alone. Not only will I protect and teach you, but I will be your friend. Would you like that? he asked.
"Oh yes, thank you. But who exactly are you?" she pleaded.
The voice let out a laugh.
Why, I am an angel from heaven, your Guardian Angel, sent to protect you, to teach you, and to be your friend. he explained.
"But sir, I don't-"
Shh child. Just listen and dream. Listen and dream. the voice coaxed.
Fluttershy became became too tired to object as the voice started to sing once again until she gradually awoke from faint yelling.
"Fluttershy! Wake up Fluttershy! Come on!"
Flutters woke up to Angel jumping and yelling. Of course he was speaking in his rabbit but Fluttershy understood like it was English.
Angel? What's wrong?" Fluttershy asked.
"What's wrong?! YOU tried to commit suicide last night, YOU almost killed yourself by dropping that knife, and then YOU just wandered off to bed and no matter how many times I yelled you wouldn't wake up! I thought you were dead, for Celestia's sake!" Angel yelled.
"I'm sorry Angel, it's just ever since Rainbow-" Fluttershy began.
"I don't care about Rainbow! You don't see since you shut yourself out but I asked Rose, Lily, and Daisy to take the animals in until you can get it back together." Angel announced.
"Angel, how could you? I was still taking care of them. I'm just trying to get over things. YOU were like this when your mother died. Why can't you understand?" Fluttershy sobbed.
Angel got a lot quieter.
"Flutters, I'm sorry but I think you need a break. When you're all better and decide to come outside and pick all of us up, then we'll all come back. Shy, it's for the best."
Then before Fluttershy could say something, Angel ran out the door, and left Fluttershy alone in her cottage. Fluttershy wept, until she heard, once again, Her Guardian Angel, singing to her.
Hush now, quiet now
It's time to lay your sleepy head
Hush now, quiet now
It's time to go to bed
Drifting off to sleep
Exciting day behind you
Drifting off to sleep
Let the joy of dream land find you
Hush now, quiet now, close your sleepy eyes
Hush now, quiet now, my how time sure flies
Drifting off to sleep the days excitement behind you
Drifting off to sleep let the joy of dreamland find you
Hush now, quiet now
It's time to lay your sleepy head
Hush now, quiet now
It's time to go to bed
Fluttershy recognized this lullaby as the one she sang (or at least tried to) when she foalsat the CMC that disbanded so many years ago. But this time as she heard it, it was much quieter and much more beautiful. Fluttershy immediately became drowsy. She tried to fight it but she could not resist the sweet melody and, once again stumbled over to her bed and fell into a deep sleep.
"Hello? Guardian? Are you there?" Fluttershy asked.
The voiced cried out.
Sing for me, my dear.
Fluttershy sang out a few notes.
Excellent. Now lessons can begin.
Fluttershy stood, shocked. She immediately tried to object.
"But sir, I really don't like big crowds and, um, I ponies don't-"
The Angel simply laughed.
Then I guess that will be the first barrier.
"Oh please sir, I really don't think we should do lesson but if I ever embarrass myself, it will be the last-"
I am your Guardian Angel and I will protect you from anything, including your stage-fright. It is already gone yet you simply don't know it.
"It is? Are you sure?" Fluttershy asked.
Yes, my dear, your Guardian Angel has you under his wing.
"I don't deserve someone like you. First you watch over me and then you take away my fears."
Nonsense. If anything I don't deserve to know you.
Fluttershy giggled as she felt more and more comfortable with her Angel. One day she heard her Angel sigh and a small clack as he closed the piano.
"What's wrong?"
He was silent.
"My voice doesn't please you."
He sighed again and spoke to Fluttershy with a simple sadness.
My dear, you mustn't say here all day anymore. It is not good for you. Even though I wish I would never have to let you go, I want you to sing at the upcoming concert. We will still have a two hour lessons at 10 P.M. but go show everyone what I have done to your glorious voice. YOU need to start showing the world your voice and taking you life back. I may not speak with you until this happens.
"My Guardian! Where are you?"
But he was gone.
