Fading Rainbows

Soarin’ kicked the fallen pony a couple of times to check if he was down for good, then he turned to Rainbow. She looked up at him and tried to smile, but even that hurt her. Soarin’ walked towards the bed and looked at the clouds bound to her, they were rare but he had dealt with them before; he left the room for a split second then bringing back slightly warmed water and poured a little on each cloud melting it. When she was free she didn’t move, she couldn’t, “S-Soarin’ I c-can’t move, i-it hurts too m-much” she croaked as tears fell down her face, this making his flood with tears. “Listen, Dash, I won’t be gone for long so don’t worry, I am going to take this dirt bag back to the police, then I will be back with Fluttershy” he said, she nodded gently and he left quickly with Thunderlane dragging behind him. Within 20 minutes he was back with her yellow friend who became teary eyed at the sight of Dash.

She quickly got out of her stage of shock and got to work. Bandaging her up was the easy part, but then she refused to talk, she just sat there as her two friends watched her both crying, “Fluttershy please go alert your friends of Rainbow’s state, they probably want to see her” he told her flatly as tears still rushed down his face. Once Fluttershy left he quickly started to sob at the foot of her bed, “Dash I’m so sorry, I had come sooner, I probably could have prevented this” he said as the tears rushed down his face, she was shocked, she had never seen a stallion cry and certainly didn’t think it would be for her. “D-don’t c-cry S-Soarin’ p-please” she croaked with all her might, “wait, why aren’t you crying?” he said confused that he was crying more than her, she did the best she could to shrug “it hurts to much to cry, I can barely even talk” she said as her raspy voice clearly burned her. That made him hurt even more, he just kept apologizing to her; “Stop s-saying sorry, y-you sound like a f-foal” she tried to laugh but doubled over in pain instead, “Please stop talking, I can’t handle you hurting yourself anymore” he said as his eyes where filled with pain. Fluttershy walked in only 5 minutes later with her friends and a doctor, “I brought a bed to transport you to the hospital” he said seriously and once he left to bring his pony workers in, the girls surrounded Dash with apologies.

She was transported to the hospital without much pain and Soarin’ never left her room. She stayed in recovery for two weeks and Soarin’ stayed right there with her. A nurse or a friend either brought them food, and he was grateful for it because he didn’t want to leave Rainbow alone for another second. He was temporarily excused from the Wonderbolts to stay with her, he had 2 months off. Slowly she started talking again with ease and laughing, but when it was just her and Soarin’ she cried; the memories of it were all too vivid for her and Soarin’ just held her hoof and cried with her, sometimes he even forced himself to cry just so she didn’t feel weak or vulnerable. When she was released he walked right out with her happily. He told her that he had a surprise for her and that they were going to the park. When they arrived he took them under a willow tree, and they had a picnic, he stalled her until it as getting dark.

Three days before Rainbow was released Soarin’ talked to Fluttershy about something. He waited until Dash was asleep to talk, “hey Fluttershy, listen I really like Dash, I mean I don’t want to leave her side anytime soon and I need your help for a nice thing I’m planning for her as soon as she gets out” he told the butterscotch pony, she agreed and they both where excited to pull this off for Dash. Fluttershy set up her bird chorus and some fireflies where ready to come out as soon as night fell.

Dash was curious as to why they were just sitting there watching the sunset. She soon found out why. As soon as night time fell a beautiful chorus of birds sounded up and a rain of fireflies light up the tree around them, “Dash, I’m so relieved you are ok, it scared me half to death when I heard you were missing two weeks ago, but that’s also when I realized something, I realized that you are a beautiful mare and I really kind of like you, so I was wondering if-“ he went rambling on until Dash cut him off with a kiss on the lips. She loved him no doubt about it in her mind, when he crashed into her house to save her, when he stayed with her the whole two weeks in the hospital, and now when he had set up this beautiful date for her; he then started talking to her, rambling on and on about her, so she took the opportunity to shut him up and she kissed him. At first the kiss was simple, but then they both leaned in with passion and fire, they locked lips and tongues as they held each other. Both of their wings sprang up and both of them blushed as they pulled away for a breath.

They lay side by side in the soft grass talking all night, soon though Rainbow Dash fell asleep. Soarin’ sighed and picked up the beautiful mare he loved and flew her home. When he entered the house he set her down on the couch, and went to her room. He fixed the window best he could and cleaned up any filth left anywhere. As soon as the room looked good as new he went back out for Dash. He carried her in by holding her with his hooves while flying over, and he set her gently into bed; Soarin’ was tempted to crawl in next to her, but thought better of it. He slowly trotted over to the couch and fell asleep there happily. When he awoke he was presented with a lovely gift of a sleeping Rainbow Dash. She had gotten up and went to lay with him on the couch. “Wow I must be doing something right” he muttered to himself as he smiled at his mare, “you are” Rainbow opened an eye up to him and snuggled a bit closer. He smiled down at her, kissed her on the head and they both fell back to sleep.
