How things go

As I slowly started to regain consciousness after that… nightmare, I noticed it has become night. Still curious about my new surroundings I cautiously started to explore the building in which I was staying. As I walked around the house-slash-library, I bumped into a small dog bed and noticed that there was a small lump in it moving up and down, does this… pony have a dog...? I had wondered. Lifting up the small sheet over it I saw something… scaly? I decided to leave this thing alone in fear of what it was.

Exploring a bit more, I found my way outside and noticed that the house I was in, was a somewhat large tree. That’s one impressive treehouse, wonder if the other peo- err.... Ponies live in treehouses like this? I had mused. Wandering the strange looking town, I saw a few ponies heading this way. Not wanting to draw attention to myself I hid myself in a nearby bush, Wow, a bush, how original of me. I thought. As the ponies walked by the bush I had noticed that the sun was nearly up. Sneaking out of the bush and out of the main concentration of homes in the town, I had found myself nearing a small cottage by the looks of it.

The cottage was a good sized one, the main thing I noticed were the amount of animal cages that lined it. As usual, I tended to stay away from the livestock animals, so I payed them no mind. Looking into one of the windows of the cottage I saw a small bed in the corner, with a lump going up and down, I figured the resident inside was still sleeping so I left the cottage be for now, wandering back to the library tree.

As I neared the library I noticed that the sun was still not fully up, so I took this opportunity to slip back inside so that no one would have a freak-out about a human running around in this world inhabited by ponies. As I slipped inside and closed the door, I heard a strange “Hoot” coming from behind me. Turning around I saw that it was a small, brown-feathered owl.

“Oh, you’re already up and walking?” A voice from behind me said.

“WAGH!!! DON’T SNEAK UP ON ME LIKE THAT!” I had yelled, surprised at the fact that the lavender pony was awake.

“Sorry.” She said with a slight giggle. “So what are you doing up by now?”

“I just… wanted to see what was around here.” I said.

“So are you ready for an explanation without blacking out?” She said somewhat tauntingly.

"I think i'm okay this time." I reply.

“Alright.” She began, “My name is Twilight Sparkle, and I’m a unicorn. Where you are right now is a world called equestria, the town you are in is named ponyville.”

Ponyville… and a world called equestria… Looks like I really WAS in another world. I thought to myself.

As twilight continued to explain my situation, I slowly began to realize that I was completely stuck here, with no way to get back home.

“…And that’s how I found you.” She finished.

As Twilight finished explaining i found myself with far more questions than answers, there was one question that was plaguing my mind.

"How did i get here?" I had asked.

"..." Twilight looked at the ground with a saddened expression. "I don't know... I was walking over to Fluttershy's cottage when i saw you unconscious near the Everfree forest."

Once she finished explaining how she found me, we started to walk back to the tree that housed the library that twilight resided in.

Heh... I don't know why i'm here... but at least so far it's a better life than what i had back home... I thought.

"So, after that explanation, do I get to know your name?" Twilight asked as we were in front of the library.

"My name? oh yeah, it's Kyle." I introduce myself as I extend my hand.

"What are you doing?" Twilight asked.

Realizing my mistake i retract my hand and walk inside of the library and back upstairs to small little lump on the small bed i had found earlier.

"Hey Twilight?" i had called.

"Yeah Kyle?" she responded.

"What's this rising and falling lump up here?"

"Oh that's just spike, he'll wake up in a bit, for now just let him sleep ok?"

Spike huh? Seems like a dog's name... but why would a dog have scales...? I muse as I walk downstairs

"So, what exactly ARE you?" Twilight asks abruptly.

"What do you mean 'what am i?' I'm a human!" I reply with a note of irritation in my voice. Has this pony really never heard of or seen a human before?

"A human...? What's a human?" Twilight asked.

"You don't know what a human is?" I asked looking at her strangely.

"Nope." She replied.

"Well.. humans are..." I began, and after a lengthy explanation that made me look like a professor in science, she looked at me with a strange look i've never seen before. "This is..."

Oh great, she's gonna start freaking out, and not in a good way...

"...AMAZING!!!!" Twilight yells while grinning ear-to-ear.

"Amazing? why? I'm just a human." I say casually as i seat myself next to a table.

"No no no no, you don't understand, humans don't exist in this world!" She exclaimed.

"Wait... WHAT?!" I yelled.

"Yeah, you're the first human to ever set foot in equestria! This amazing! I have to inform princess celestia!" She said as she darted off.

A few minutes later i was still in a state of somewhat-shock as twilight came in with a piece of paper and a... quill pen? Wait a minute... was she... LEVITATING THEM?!

"H-how are you d-doing that?" I stutter, slowly pointing at the levitating quill pen and paper.

"Doing what? Oh, levitating the parchment and the pen?" She asked.

I slowly nodded my head, trying to wrap my head around how she was doing this.

"It's done with magic, don't you have magic in the world you came from?" She asks.

"N-no, we don't, it's kinda... nonexistent back in my world." I reply with a slight note of depression.

"A world without magic? Seems kind of... gloomy..." Twilight says.

"Yeah, but hey, what can you do right?" I say, raising my shoulders slightly.

"So, do you mind if i ask you a few questions about your world?" She asks, her eyes full of anticipation.

"Sure, i don't mind, ask away." I say with a slight smile.

"Perfect! Now the first question i have is..." She begins to berate me with questions over the next few hours.

By the time she finished, it was already night outside, had we spent the entire day talking?

I looked to Twilight to see if she was done asking me questions and she started yawning.

"Getting tired?" I asked.

"Mhm, i think i'm going to go to bed, the bed upstairs that you were sleeping in, you can use while you're staying here ok?" She says while walking up to her own bed.

"Alright, i'm gonna go up in just a second." i say while walking to the bathroom.

After relieving myself, i decided to head to sleep, exhausted by the massive amount of questions that were thrown at me in the previous hours.

"Night Twilight." I say while climbing into the bed that was provided for me.

"Good night Kyle, I'll see you in the morning." She says, yawning and drifting off into sleep.

As i feel myself starting drifting off, i think:

Maybe this world isn't so bad...

That night, that nightmare returned.
