As she went back to her chamber, she heard a knock at the door. *Knock knock. “Princess it’s an emergency, may we please come in?” “You may.” The guards made their way to Celestia. “Alright you tell the princess, I can’t.” “No you tell her, I don’t want to be the one saying it.” “Alright enough! The both of you. You! Tell me what needs to be said.” “Well your majesty, we’ve received some terrible news…” “Well what is it?” “You’re parents have passed away. They died from being crushed by an avalanche, saving the ponies in the snowy mountains. We are sorry your majesty, they were great alicorns.” “Oh… thank you for telling me this.” Tears were dripping down Celestia’s face. “Is there something we can do for you princess?” “Yes, please summon Luna, I need to talk to her.” “As you wish your majesty.” The guards left, making their way to Luna’s quarters. I can’t believe it. Mom, dad… dead. I wonder how I should explain everything to Luna. I haven’t told her anything about what happened to our parents since she became Nightmare Moon, and… that this day would eventually come. That means… I have to… Celestia was interrupted by Luna’s voice. “Sister, you summoned me?” “Oh yes, please come in Luna.” Luna walked in. She noticed a look of sadness and panic on Celestia’s face. “What is going on sister? You don’t look well.” “Please sit Luna.” Luna complied. “Now listen carefully Luna, I have a lot to explain to you today. Things around here are about to change. Now if you have any questions during this talk, let me know, just know I am about to tell you a lot, it’s going to be quite a while. I was going to wait until I felt you were ready, but due to the circumstances, I cannot wait any longer.” “I am all ears Celestia.” “Alright, here it is Luna.” Celestia took a deep breath. She took a few minutes to reflect on how she would deliver the news to Luna. She noticed Luna was looking at her with wonder, so she started to speak. “Luna, I just received news that our parents passed away…” Tears started flowing down her cheeks. “They were killed in an avalanche... I’m sorry to have to tell you this Luna.” Luna grabbed Celestia in a hug, Celestia returned it, without hesitation. The two needed a shoulder to cry on. After what seemed like an eternity, the two let go. Celestia could see sadness in Luna’s eyes, but nothing like she’s seen before in Luna. After a few more minutes, Luna spoke. “I can’t believe it, I haven’t seen them in over a thousand years. I didn’t have the chance to talk to them, have fun with them… or even say “I love you mom and dad!” one last time.” Luna continued to shed tears. Celestia on the other hand, couldn’t tell her what needed to be said. How am I supposed to tell Luna the second part of this bad news? I’ve never seen that much sadness in her eyes before, I don’t think she could take it… but at the same time, I can’t just not tell her. It’s urgent and needs to be dealt with immediately. Maybe talking about our parents will help soften her up, and then the news won’t be such a hard blow. I just hope it works…. Celestia took a deep breath and did her best to look calm and collective. “Luna, our parents loved you, they were heart broken when they found out what you became… Nightmare Moon. They came the day after you were banished to the moon. All three of us cried, heartbroken about the events that took place. We all missed you Luna, especially me. I couldn’t bear not having my sister around, after all the years we raised and lowered the moon, took care of Equestria. You were my only family close by, and I messed up big time. I should have been more sensitive to your feelings Luna, I should have talked to you more about what you were going through. Will you forgive me Luna?” Luna hugged Celestia. “Of course I forgive you. I love you sister. I want to apologize as well for what I caused. I let jealousy take over and caused a lot of unnecessary fright in ponies. Can you please forgive me sister?” “Of course Luna! You’re my sister, I could never hold that against you. Luckily there were no casualties. Now as for mom and dad, they came to visit me once in a while when they could to help support me. Their last visit was a month before I enrolled Twilight Sparkle in my school for Gifted Unicorns. After that, they were busy with their own business, we still supported each other by letter, but it wasn’t the same. The day you came back, I had hope I would see my sister Luna again. Thanks to Twilight, I got to see my sister again, and I couldn’t be happier.” The two were smiling. This was the last time the two actually sat down and had a real conversation for a little over one thousand years. Those smiles soon ended however. “Unfortunately Luna, I have some more bad news. I have to leave and take over our parents’ job of ruling and keeping the peace between the rest of the world. I won’t be living with you Luna.” “What? Sister please! Let me come with you! How am I supposed to rule Equestria without you? I don’t have a single clue!” “Don’t worry Luna, I still have a week before I have to leave. I’ll teach you everything you need to know!” “I can’t say I’m happy about this, but at least we still have a week together. I’m ready to learn!” “That’s the spirit Luna! Now, we’ll start tomorrow. Tonight, let’s just have fun.” “Let us, sister!” The two walked off, enjoying the rest of the day and night together, like old times. *The next morning* Princess Celestia had called an emergency meeting in Canterlot, all the town was gathered. Princess Celestia and Luna were having a quick discussion before starting. “Alright Luna, I want you to announce the news.” “What! Surely you must be joking sister! I have never done this before!” “Well now is the time to start, don’t forget, you’re going to be their new ruler next week.” “You’re right sister. I need to do this.” Luna walked out, the crowd fell in silence as Luna walked out. Taking a deep breath, Luna started to speak. “Dear loyal subjects, today I bring you tragic news. My parents have passed away a few days ago. This means that your ruler Celestia will have to leave and continue our parents’ work. This also means that I will now be the ruler of Equestria starting next week.” Celestia walked up and started to speak herself. “I won’t be gone forever, I will come to visit. Now I expect everypony to give Luna as much respect as you gave me.  Be easy on her, this is all new to her, and it will take some time for her to understand everything. If I hear otherwise, you’ll have to deal with me! Don't worry my little ponies, Luna will be a great leader, I would bet my life on it. Now, I will be gone in a week, but for the rest of the week, I’ll be guiding and teaching Luna how to run Equestria. Thank you for listening, and have a great day.” Luna and Celestia walked back into the castle. The ponies were all talking to each other about what they were just told. Most of them welcomed Luna as their new ruler, but some were worried, as she’s never ruled Equestria by herself before. “That went by great sister!” “I agree Luna, and I honestly know you’ll make a great leader.” “Thank you Celestia. I know I won’t be able to do this alone, so I already have a plan.” “Oh, please tell me Luna.” “Well, start writing a letter.” Dear Twilight Sparkle, I am summoning you to Canterlot castle. It is a most urgent situation, please come by as soon as possible and I will explain everything. Yours truly, Princess Luna “Could you please send this to Twilight sister?” “Of course Luna.” Celestia used her magic and sent the letter via dragon mail. *At the treehouse library* Spike ran downstairs, holding the letter in his hand. “Twilight! You have a letter from the princess.” “I wonder what the princess wants to tell me.” Twilight was puzzled. Twilight read the letter, now she was even more puzzled. “That’s strange.” “What is it Twi?” “Well Luna is summoning me to the castle, on an urgent subject. I’m just curious as to why Luna and not Celestia like usual.” “Well there’s only one way to find out Twi.” “You’re right Spike, take care of the library while I’m gone. I’ll send you a letter when I find out what’s going on.” “Alright, be careful Twi!” “I will!” Twilight made her way inside Canterlot castle through teleportation, doing it in a few as her magic was not strong enough to do it in one trip. She walked up to the throne room where she met Princess Luna. “Your majesty!” Twilight bowed. “There is no need for that Twilight, and thank you for coming on such short notice.” “Of course princess. Now if I may ask, what is the emergency?” “Well Twilight, my parents passed away a few days ago…” “I’m sorry to hear that princess.” “Thank you Twilight, and please call me Luna.” “What does this mean Luna?” “Well… Celestia will have to leave Canterlot and take over our parents’ jobs and be the new ruler of the world, which means I will be the new ruler of Equestria.” “Congratulations Luna, although it is too bad it had to happen under these circumstances.” “Thank you Twilight, but this also means I will be teaching you now and will be monitoring your friendship progress. I also ask that you will be available to assist me if the time come." "You can count on me princess!" Twilight was proud to be considered a 'princess's right hand pony'. "Thank you. Now this will not take effect until next week, Celestia will be training me for the remainder of the week. If you wish to tell her goodbye, feel free to, she’s in her private quarters.” “Thank you Luna, and I look forward to working with you.” “Bye Twilight, my new student.” Luna winked. Twilight made her way to Celestia quarters. *Knock, knock. “Who is it?” “It’s Twilight, may I come in princess?” “You may.” Princess Celestia said, as she opened the doors with her magic. “Princess, I am sorry to hear what happened.” “Thank you Twilight. Did Luna explain everything?” “She did, and I came to say goodbye princess. I want to thank you for all that you’ve taught me over the years, and that it was an honour.” “You’re welcome Twilight, and it was a delight to teach a great student as yourself Twilight. I won’t be gone forever however, I will be visiting from time to time. Now before you leave, I ask one more favour of you.” “What is it princess?” “Please keep an eye on Luna, and help her in her times of need. She’ll be alone and I know she’ll need your help.” “I promise princess.” “Thank you Twilight. Good luck with your studies, and I know you’ll do great.” Princess Celestia walked up and gave Twilight a hug, to which Twilight returned. “Good luck on your journey princess.” Twilight made her way out, and made her way back home. Princess Celestia made her way to the throne room. “Alright Luna, the first thing I’m going to teach you tomorrow morning, is how to raise the sun and send letters to Spike.” “Sounds great to me sister.” *One week later* Princess Luna and Celestia were standing outside, this was it, time for both Celestia and Luna to start their new royal duties. “Goodbye Celestia, I will miss you, and thank you for everything.” “You’re welcome Luna, and good luck with your new royal duties.” “Thank you, and same to you sister.” “Thank you Luna.” Luna held Celestia in a hug for one last time, for quite a while. The two let go after what seemed to be an eternity. Tears were flowing down their cheeks. “Well Luna I must go, I’ll miss you.” “I’ll miss you too Celestia.” Celestia took off towards her new destination. Luna stood there, watching Celestia until she couldn’t see here anymore. “Well, time to do your new royal duties Luna.” The End?
