One Sweet Date

It was a beautiful day in Ponyvile and Big Macintosh knows it. The weather is neither too hot nor too cold. The wind is blows gently this few days. It was the perfect time to relax or having a nap, but now is not the time for that he told himself. He got a job to finish.

Not too long ago, Mr. and Mrs. Cakes asked Big Macintosh to deliver the cake to Blues Noteworthy. Pinkie volunteers to show him direction since Big Macintosh didn’t know where Blues lives.

“Are you listening to me Big Mac? “Pinkie Pie asked while giving him a nudge.  She noticed that Big Macintosh has been spacing out from time to time. “We could take turn if you are tired.”

Big Macintosh smiled at her and shook his head. It’s not that he didn’t believe in her but he didn’t want to let her carry the heavy cake. It’s not as big and heavy as the popular MMMM cake but carrying it for a long can be quite exhausting. He wondered what in equestrian did Mr. and Mrs. Cake put in the cake.

“So like I said it’s kind of weird for Blues to order a cake. Either he wants to throw a surprise party for somepony or he really depressed right now. He always orders a large cake when he depressed.” Pinkie Pie proclaimed.

Big Macintosh did wonder, how in Celestia name that Pinkie know everypony in Ponivile and every detail about them. He remembered how Pinkie threw a surprise birthday party for him for the first time. Even though they did not know each other very well, Pinkie still went through the trouble to prepare the party.

“We’re here!” Pinkie shouted which make Big Macintosh came through to his senses.

Pinkie quickly knocked the door and waited eagerly for a respond. Then, a blue earth pony with bagged eye opened the door. He looked like he had been through some rough time Big Mac thought.

“Here’s your cake Blues! I also put your favorite sweet in it. Hope you like it.” Pinkie said with a smile. He nod and smiled back at her.

After that Big Macintosh put the cake in Blues house and went outside. He didn’t want to disturb the conversation between Pinkie and Blues. He can see Pinkie is trying her best to cheer Blues up and thought that it’s a very nice thing to do.

“Big Mac?” Pinkie asked as she poked him. “You looked tired. Let’s go back to the Sugar Cube Corner. I will make a nice cupcake for you.”

“Thank you Miss Pinkie Pie but-“before Big Macintosh can finish his sentence, Pinkie put her hooves at his mouth.

“Big Mac, I told you not call me that. Just Pinkie” she giggled.

“We’re friends, right?” she continued. At that moment, Big Macintosh feels a tug in his heart. With her cute and adorable face, it leaves him speechless.

“Eeyup” is the only thing that he can say.

“Okay, where were we? OH, now I remember!” Pinkie said with a smile. “So, do you still want to go to Sugar Cube Corner for some cupcake?”

  Big Macintosh thought for a moment. He would like to go back to the Sugar Cube Corner for a cupcake or two but he have unfinished chores to do. Applejack would take his hide if he’s late again.

“Nope. Sorry Pinkie, there still work to be done at the farm.”  Big Macintosh said. Pinkie stared at him like she going to say something. After a few second of silence, Big Macintosh said goodbye to Pinkie and turn around.

“Wait!” Pinkie shouted which make Big Macintosh nearly jump. “Would you like to go out for a date tomorrow?”

Big Macintosh frozed.  He slowly turned his head towards Pinkie. He could not believe what he just heard.

“P-Pardon?”  Big Macintosh said to make a confirmation.

“Would you like to go out with me for a date tomorrow?” Pinkie said without any hesitation.

“A date?!” Big Macintosh said with much confusion.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t know you’re not satisfied with one date” said Pinkie while scratching her mane. “Well, if you want more that would be okay.”

“No,no,no,nope.  A date would be….nice.”

“Great! Meet me at the park about five tomorrow. Bye” Pinkie said with glee as she bounced back home.

Big Macintosh just stood there like he has been petrified by a monster. He stared at the pink pony at the distance. “What the hay just happen?” he mummers.

The weather is the same as yesterday though the wind is much slower Big Mac thought. Right now he is trying his best to get Pinkie out of mind right now.

Since yesterday, Big Macintosh started to fell weird and he wasn’t himself lately. Usually, he would buck 50 apple trees in an hour but after yesterday’s incident, he barely bucked 20 apple trees. He even missed kicking an apple tree and accidently roll down a hill (though Applejack found this humorous).  Big Macintosh didn’t get enough sleep either. He shifted back and forth all night in his bed. “What’s wrong with me?” He asked himself.

Suddenly, Big Macintosh hears the bell ring at the clock tower. He looked at the clock which shows that it is five in the evening. Now Big Macintosh is becoming more anxious.  He isn’t worried because he hasn’t had a date in long time. He is more worried what he’s going to say to Pinkie when he sees her.

Big Mac spends more time with Pinkie than any Applejack friends. Usually it’s when he is helping The Cake Couple or helping Pinkie with some manual labor. But never in his life is that he going out with her.

“I’m going to tell her that I’m not ready for a serious relationship” mummer Big Macintosh “It’s not like I didn’t take a liking for her. It’s just that I need more time to think. ”

“More time to think about what?” said a Pink Pony who is now behind him. She is carrying a picnic basket behind her.

Big Macintosh nearly jumped by surprise. “How in Tatarus that I didn’t notice Pinkie was behind me? May I was daydreaming like she said?” he thought.

“Are you ready Big Mac?” Pinkie eagerly asked him.

Big Macintosh takes a deep breath and let out a big sigh. He doesn’t want to repeat the same mistake he did on his last date.

“I’m sorry Pinkie. It’s not that I don’t like you, It’s just I don’t think I’m prepared for a serious relationship yet.”  Big Macintosh said while diverting his eyes from Pinkie Pie.

Pinkie who is now confused stared at him. ”Big Mac, what are you talking about? I’m just asking you out for a date or more if you want.”

Before Big Mac about to say something, Pinkie takes out a fruit from the picnic basket she carried earlier. The fruit look like a big dried up grape. It was more like an oval shape than round and the colour was dark brown. When he see the fruit, he knows what Pinkie means. The name of this fruit is a ‘date’.

Big Mac jaw just drop. ”So when you mean when you asked me out…” he muttered.

“Well, eating dates is even better outside” Pinkie giggle.

Silence befalls those two. Suddenly, Big Macintosh began with a snicker, then a chuckle later laugh. He was thinking too much he told himself.

“Eyyup” Big Mac who finally calm down “Sorry for being weird. Just forget what I said. Let’s eat the dates at the gazebo.”

Pinkie just franticly nodded her head. She carried the basket while hoping to the gazebo. There nothing wrong just eating alone with a friend he thought. He had done it with Cheeirly.

The two friends enjoyed the dates at the gazebo. This is the first time that Big Macintosh ever tasted a date. He only learn it from books he read when he was small. Then he realized something.

“Where did you buy the dates from?” Macintosh asked as he knows that dates grew outside of Equestria.

“Two days ago, The Camel Caravan came to Ponyvile. They selling many weird fruit that I never had seen before. One of the camels said that they’re selling dates for a special price. He also said that dates are sweet and it’s good for you.” Pinkie replied the take another date from the basket.

“Have my sister and the other tried the date before?”

Pinkie shook her head which make Big Macintosh wonder. “Pinkie, not to be rude but why did you invite me for a date instead of your friend?” he asked.

The question greatly caught Pinkie of guard. She nearly chocked one of the date seeds. When she gazed at Big Macintosh eyes, she suddenly blushed.

“W-well, that is because you help me so much.” She mutters.

Big Mac knows that Pinkie not telling the whole truth but he didn’t want to spoil the mood. Instead, he just enjoys the view and the food.

Dusk has gone by and the moon and the stars come out from the dark sky. Big Macintosh escort Pinkie back to the Sugar Cube Corner.

“I had a good time today Big Mac. It’s nice talking to you from time to time. Even though I’m the one who do most of the talking.” She said with a smile.

“Eeyup.” Big Mac said and return the smile.

Both of them walk slowly in the night while gazing at the moon and the stars. ”It does look like we’re on a date right?” Pinkie giggle said while scratching her mane.

Big Macintosh bashfully looked aside. Two ponies of opposite gender going out together do make it look like a date. “Uh…Eeyup” he replied.

They didn’t say anything after that. Both of them just enjoyed Luna wonderful performance which bringing the beautiful night sky. Before they knew it, they reached their destination.

“Thank you for hanging out with me back Big Mac. I’m sure you had a tight schedule today.”

“Nope.” replied the red stallion. Actually, he was busy today and he has to work twice as fast to make time for Pinkie. He thought that a little white lie won’t hurt.

“Well, good night Big Macintosh.” Pinkie said as she comes closer to him and kissed him on the cheek.

Inside Big Macintosh mind now filled with confusion, shock and embarrassment. He just stared at the pink pony who he thought just a friend. Pinkie looked at him and gave him a smile that can melt any stallion heart.

“That’s for lying to me.” Pinkie giggled and bounced toward The Sugar Cube Corner. Before she went into the house, she waved at Big Macintosh and shouted “We should hang out more!”

Big Mac just gives a big sigh as he is still confused right now. He didn’t know if he love Pinkie or not. But he knows one thing. He had fun being with Pinkie today and would not mind if he spends another day with her.
