Ch. 2
Previous ChapterNext ChapterFrostjack, just shutting the door to the cabin where he meet the most remarkable mare he ever meet, decided to take a look for the nice stallion who had offered him and his "marefriend" a bottle of champaign. He said he had wanted to get it to lighten the mood but he had another reason. Thinking of his past made his heart ache as well as seeing such sadden eyes in Moonbeam... He didn't think he could last much longer sober. He needed something to take the pain away. Suddenly he stopped his tracks. The pain he usually felt from thinking about his sister wasn't so heavy. In fact he felt like he could shrug it off. The years of betrayal and heartache was being lifted in a matter of minutes. "How?" he asked himself softly. He started walking again. Was it because of her? What had she done? He pondered it for a few moments as he made his way to the dinning cart. The porter was reading a newspaper that was dated for the previous day. Frostjack relented in thinking that he could have been in the paper and was glad that they did not carry the current issues.
Noticing the blue stallion the porter smiled as he went about reading his paper not looking at him. "Ah, I was wondering when you would show up. Taking me up on my offer are we?" He said with a twinkle in his words. "Ah to young and in love. Tell me how does it feel?" He inquired trying to get a blush out of the young boy.
"I dont think I have ever felt like this before." He replied automatically. "I feel almost like a new pony because of her." He focused on the moving scenery as he continued. "She takes my worries from me." The old stallion put his paper down at the end of Frostjacks answer. The porter had been in love before and had a child and wife to show for it, but what he saw in this colts eyes made him remember tender moments that he and his wife used to share.
Snapping out of his own thoughts Frostajck apologized but was swiftly dismissed. "You should never apologize for being in love." The porter got up and went to the counter and asked the mare behind the bar for a bottle of champaign. She, hearing every word, was more then glad to oblige. "Here you are my boy." He said handing him the bottle with two glasses. "And be sure not to 'forget' your ticket next time." He said with a wink.
After thanking the porter he began walking back to his cabin. He thought of what he said and what the old stallion told him. 'I cant be in love I just meet her.' he thought to himself. 'If anything she probably has a colt back home waiting for her." his shoulders shrank in the thought of somepony else holding her. He shook his head furiously. What was he doing? Making crazy fantasies. She was a nice mare who had been through similar situations. He was happy just to have meet her, surly she couldn't feel anything like that for him. Sure she was beautiful. Not just in looks but in her kindness. Most mares that he knew of would laugh or pity him for crying. Not her, she had been there for him and cried with him. She had made him feel safe while being at a state of weakness. She was absolutely a beautiful mare. He had to admit to himself at this point that he was a tad bit infatuated with her. But he let the thought go. Surly she couldn't feel that way about him. Right? The thought plagued him as he opened the cabin door. "Yes? What do you want?" said a rather rude and uppity mare.
"Whoops! My bad!" He said as he shut the door. how could he forget what cabin he was in! He felt like such a fool. Just then he heard a faint giggling coming from one of the cabins. 'That sounds like Moonbeam.' He thought her giggle to be extremely cute. he longed to hear more of it. He decided to at least ask if she had a special somepony. Ya know to make conversation. "Moonbeam? he whispered. "Moonbeam where are you?" He heard a quite answer filled with suppressed laughter.
"I am here." Her voice said. He was glad he tuned his ears to her voice less he might have missed where it was coming from. He opened the door to the cabin to find her right where she was when he left only moments ago. "Ah the porter was good to his word I see" she said looking at the bottle.
"Yep, he is quite the character." He said putting the bottle and glasses down on the seat. Luna was silent. Frostjack thought it was because she wanted him to open the champaign. As he was trying to looses the cork Luna started to finally speak.
"Frostjack?" She asked almost timidly. He made a rather impatient 'Mhm' noise as he began to struggle with the bottle. "I regret to say that I have not been at all honest with you. I need to tell you something about myself. About who I really am. I hope you still find a friend in me." She said lowering her head slightly. She was getting scared again and almost abandoned the whole ordeal. She looked at him and saw just how hard he was struggling with the bottle. Griping it at both ends he was pulling with mighty strength. She almost fell pray to another fit of laughter when she saw how his tongue was stuck out in concentration. He stopped for a moment to rest his arms. Sighing with frustration.
Giving her his full attention he started, "Moonbeam you can tell me anything, you listed to my story and accepted it. What kind of friend would I be if I didn't do the same. Go on I promise whatever you say will change nothing!" He said holding a hoof over his heart. He went back at the bottle.
The princess felt dizzy with delight. He had called her his friend. She didnt have many. Her sister was about the only other pony who talked to her besides Twilight recently and that was only out of obligation. She felt her uneasiness settle again. She took a deep breath and began once more. "This may come as a shock but you see, I am not a civilian such as yourself. I am actually a member of the royal-" 'BANG!' the cork from the bottle wized around the room hitting surface after surface. It knocked some of Lunas things above there heads lose as its madness came to a stop.
"Whoa." Frostjack said uncovering his head. "Sorry about that Moonbeam what were you saying?"
Luna started up again and was starting to dislike her new name. "Ahem, as I was saying I am a member of the royal family." She paused letting him soak the idea in. His eyes never left hers as he nodded to let her continue. "I am none other then-" 'CRASH' The luggage from above being knocked off balance by the cork finally gave way and had fell on top of them both.
Moving aside the luggage he offered a hand to her. "Are you okay Moonbeam?"
"OUR NAME IS NOT MOONBEAM! WE ARE PRINCESS LUNA OF EQUESTRIA!" She proclaimed in her Canterlot voice. She was finally free of the burden of her secret. Now she had to bare seeing his reaction.
He looked at her with ears still ringing from her loud voice. He cleared his thought and picked up the champaign bottle now half empty due to being spilt, pored a glass and gave it to her. She took it almost unwillingly and stared at it as he poured himself a glass. She shut her eyes tight. She could feel his answer be one of disappointment she just knew it. Was she destined to be alone? Doomed to life of isolation without comfort? Had she not suffered enough with her subjects fearing and hating her?
Her thoughts were interrupted by a sharp clanging of two glasses. "Do you know what champaign is primarily drunken for?" he inquired with a face as straight as the horizon. "Celebration." He stood to his feet putting his glass out slightly. "I propose a toast." He said gesturing Luna to stand with him. Being dumbfounded she could only obey. "I would like to toast this train. For without it I would have never escaped my certain doom." He started to take a sip but paused before his lips reached the glass. "Oh yes, and to meeting the most kind and compassionate mare in Equestria. To Princess Luna, my ridiculous new friend." He took a sip as Luna stood he glass shaking in her hooves. He had called her kind, and compassionate. Most importantly he had called her his friend again. What he had said stuck so many cords that she couldn't help but sob. She crouched down on the floor crying with tears of what she could only fathom as joy. Not knowing what he did wrong Frostjack started to panic. 'Ponyfeathers! Did I say something wrong? What to do what to do?'
Luna still crying her heart out felt something warm wrap around her. She felt it tighten around her curled up body. She looked up to see what it was. It was Frostjack! He had both arms wrapped tightly around the princess trying his best to comfort her. "Im so sorry princess I didn't mean to upset you. I just wanted to- I dont know just make you laugh and now Ive gone and done the opposite! Im so sorry!" She looked at him through waterlogged eyes and saw that he too was starting to cry.
"You have not upset us." She said through sniffling. "We have not heard such kind words from a subject in over a thousand years. It is.., difficult to process such kindness, such warmth." She was starting to tear up again. She cursed herself for not having better control over her emotions. Still being held she put her head in his chest as he put his hoof on her head slowly stoking it. Her sobs were muffled in Frostjacks chest. The pain of her insecurities were leaving her after each stroke of her hair. The walls around her heart were beginning to crumble without her permission. She had felt so safe in his arms she wished to stay there longer but she decided that this was enough for one day. She pulled away form him which took more willpower then she was willing to note on at the moment and took up her glass and asked for it to be refilled. He was more than happy to oblige. "I would also like to make a toast." She said as she smiled softly with the steaks of tears still wet on her cheeks. "To our new friendship. May we treasure it always." She took a graceful sip. and sat back down.
The pair stayed silent for a small time Frostjack smiling at Luna and Luna smiling at Frostjack. It was not an uncomfortable silence but one of understanding. They had meet only hours prior and yet they felt like long time friends. After a short while longer Frostjack had muster enough courage to ask his question. "So." He paused as to not hurt the most comfortable of silences. "So princess, do... you um... have a special somepony?" He asked timidly. Luna`s smiling expression turned to one of embarrassment. She had never really thought about those types of relationships. Well except recently. During the time of calm silence she had been looking at him all to carefully. When ever his eyes would move from her to the door or window she found herself indulging in his more physical features. He wasn't too tall, about as tall as she was if not shorter. He had the most lovely shade of beautiful shade of green eyes which matched the streak in his mane and tail. She could not see his flank very well but she was sure that it worth the wait to look. His shoulders were not too wide and she pondered on how he held her. She then remembered where she was.
"Sorry I did not quite catch that." She said trying to play it off.
It was bad enough asking the first time! He was feeling very self conscious about this question but she it worth knowing the answer. "I asked if you had a special somepony. Surely the beautiful Princess Luna has had stallions lining up." he said with a wink. She then remembered why she was blushing and then she was sadden by the question.
"My subjects do not find me... attractive." she said solemnly.
"I refuse to believe that." he said while pouring her another glass. "I refuse to believe that anypony would not find you to be the pinnacle of divine beauty."
She took a sip. "You think I look divine?" she asked hiding her tone of intrigue.
Pouring himself a glass he replied. "Without a doubt. If you don`t mind me saying Princess, you are the most beautiful creature I have ever seen." he downed his glass.
She was silent for a while. "Please, call me Luna." she said.
"Alright... Luna" He said slowly testing the waters.
'Luna.' She played his voice saying her name over and over again in her head. "What may I ask brought this question about?" she truly was curious.
"Well... We were using the facade of being a couple earlier and I was wondering if you had anypony."
"And me being beautiful had nothing to do with it?" she teased.
"Well it didnt hurt that your beautiful." he said quickly. Luna was beginning to enjoy this more and more.
"So tell me, if I were to say, hypothetically of course, that I was indeed... available, what would you do?"
Catching on Frosjack thought this was the best time to try to impress Luna. But for some reason he didn't know why. "Well I would first ponder on how someone as, gorgeous as yourself could remain single. And then, hypothetically speaking, I would have to ask you to dinner." Thinking for a moment he had just thought about what he said. "I mean, not that I would have a ghost of a chance with a princess! Hahaha..."
Luna could see the blush in his face, it gave her the courage to press further. "Hmm, I guess your right. You really wouldn't, I mean you DID make me cry twice in the same day." She stole a glance at Frostjack who seemed very perturbed at this.
"And just what would you know about it?" He said putting his nose to the air. "For all you know I am world class romantic!"
She leaned in close to him. "Is that soo?" She said with a lusty strain in her voice causing him to sweat. "And just how would you woe me then?" She was less then an inch away from his face. All he could do was pry that she could not read minds for if she heard what he was thinking he surly would be banished. He had to admit that her lips, being dangerously close to his, looked very soft. He then noticed at the angle she was leaning. her chest a little too close for comfort. her knees were touching his. He was almost to stunned by her to speak,
"Well-Um-Id."- Just then the breaks began to activate, the train jerked forward bringing the princess along with it, out of her seat and onto Frostjack. she was facing him in his lap and she couldn't utter a word. Luckily he did. "Luna? Could you get off of me please?" he said wheezing. She noticed that one of her knees were placed on top on his groin. She made the unfortunate note of noticing the warmth. It would torment her for days on end. She got up and helped her friend to his feet. After a few moments he was fine and the two decided to leave. They exited the train station to find a royal carriage waiting for its princess. "Well I guess this is where we say so long?" he said sadly.
Luna not being phased by the sadness in his voice had her things taken to the carriage. "What are you talking about? You will be coming with me. You do not have anyplace to go correct?" he shook his head. "Good! Then you will stay at the castle with me and my sister!" She said all to gleefully. Dumbfounded as he looked at her. He tossed his pack to one of the guards who put it with the princesses things. The pair climbed into the carriage and away they went.

At the same time in the Kingdom of Glacina-
Princess Silver Wind looked up at the highest star in the night sky burning with rage. "My dear brother I fear that my bonds will no longer be strong enough to hold you. When you awaken a champion will rise to meet you. And it will be the birth of a new king."
A small unicorn mare came to the princess. "Your highness, communications have been established with the Princess of Equestria."
"Thank you." The unicorn handed the princess a round crystal. "You may leave."
"Yes highness." The crystal then projected a screen before the princess holding the image of Celestia herself.
"Hello Silvia, and to what do I owe the pleasure?"
"Hello Tia, I am afraid I have bad news. Polaris will crash in Equestria in four days time."
