//-------------------------------------------------------// The North Star (Now back from a 4 year hiatus!) -by Frostjack- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue Once upon a time the Ice covered kingdom of Glacina was in a panic over a child who had yet even been born. Every birth is one of celebration but this one had the kingdom on edge for it was not just any birthing but the birthing of royalty. The Queen was having a child, her second child and her first born was not at all happy about it. "But mother!" The little princess of four whined, "I wanted a baby sister! Boys are icky and are messy." The mother who was sitting across the room knitting a small hat for the unborn child smiled and gazed at her daughter for a short time. "Silver Glacia Aurora Wind, that will be quite enough of that!" Her mother scolded, "What if he was the first born? Would you want your older brother saying such things?" The little girl thought long and hard on this before replying, a trait that her mother was very proud of. Some rulers speak without thinking and cause strife to there kingdoms. She was glad to know that her daughter would not be one of them, though she did wish that she would hurry with her answer. "Then I wouldn't want him as a big brother." She said with a down cast look upon her face. Her mother being kind of heart couldn't stand to see her daughter upset at the thought that she wouldn't be wanted as an older sister. "So then what must you do?" the queen asked. Once again the four year old thought long and hard. "I will teach him to not be so messy!" The mother laughed as she saw the grin on her daughters face as she answered. "Mother," she asked softly, climbing on to her mothers lap. "Do you think that father would think me a good sister?" Her mother put down her knitting needles and brushed a hand across her daughters head. "Of course he does silly, and I am sure that wherever he is he is smiling down on his shining stars. The queen then thought of a name for her soon to be son. "Polaris." She said. The star her late husband the king promised to jump from had she said 'no' to her marrying him. "That will be his name. Prince Polaris of Glacina." //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Nine years later the princess of Glacina now having become 13 had begun her studies into the duty of ruling a kingdom. All of this was new to her and it was overbearing to say the least. Her mother having died in childbirth could not be there and tell her daughter how to rule a kingdom, nor to tell her how proud she was of her daughter for taking up this task by herself. She was thinking more and more thoughts like this lately. In fact it was always around this time of year that she would remember her mother and the sadness would reset itself in her heart. There was one consolation though. She was not allowed to be sad long for her little brother would always do his best to cheer her up and cheer her up he did! A young Polaris came barging into his sisters study where she was busy signing decrees and the like. "Silvia! Silvia!" the young boy cried. "I found a wild puppy just lying in the street all cold and shivering! What do I do?" he said holding the pup with both hands. His sister who had now scattered papers all over her study sighed, knowing she could not clean this mess till her brother was dealt with. "Is it lost or stray?" she asked in an annoyed tone. "Well I found it near the woods all curled up so I gave him some of my lunch. Then he rubbed up against my leg and oh Silvia he was so cold!" The boy finished as he cuddled with the pup. He was one of the 'speak before thinking' types her mother told her about when she was young. But she had to admit the pup was cute and it didn't seem like any one would go looking for him. She might as well give him an early birthday present anyhow. "Well we cant let him go back to the cold forest now can we? But where will we keep him I wonder? I am far too busy to take care of him so who would? Hmm..." She waited for her brother to take the bate. "Ooh ooh! Silvia me me ill take care of him!" He shouted. "Are you sure? Taking care of animals is a big boys job, cant let just anyone do it you know!" She decided to make him suffer a bit for ruining her concentration. "I promise I will! Ill do everything that I should and you wont have to get me a present for my birthday! And... and.. and ill clean your room for a week!" The young prince said running out of breath. Silvia, acting like she got the short end of the deal, let him keep the pup. for the years following they were inseparable. The wolf now named 'Lance' grew to an enormous size. Large enough to be rode by his master. Tame as a house cat in the prescience of of Polaris and eventually Silver Wind as well. The young boys first friendship had blossomed into an unbreakable brotherhood one the young boy thought could not be stopped even by death. Something that was sure to be tested in the years to come. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// In the years before 'The North Star Incident' as it has been known to be called by the ponies in the Glacina, invaders from the east started a full on war with Glacina for her vast riches under the icy seas. The princess now at the age of 22 could masterfully assume a facade of calm and strength. Though her true face was one of sadness and a deepen depression. During the years before the embers of war had been lit, her foolish younger brother had tried to prove himself by challenging a messenger from the east. The messenger brought news of the neighboring kingdom and its wishes for domination. Polaris was outraged and attacked the messenger as a way to protect his people and his land. An action that was done without though. A foolish action. The attack was used to slander his good name and and to turn the Glacieans against him spreading roomers that he was 'power mad' and 'cared not for his people but only acted for himself'. His sister could do little to quiet these lies. And so the people of Glacina turned against their prince. She did the only thing she though was right, to have her brother leave for diplomatic missions with the kingdoms of the west so that he might not only learn his lesson on acting without thinking, but so that he might regain some trust from his people. It was over a seven years since she sent her brother away. 'The Bastard Prince' as he was now being called, was due to return to a kingdom that he would not recognize. One that was bloodied and beaten, war torn and on the bring of depression. The princess, now Queen regent had hope that he would assist her in a revitalization plan for her kingdom now that the war was over. She hoped the shame her brother felt as he left his kingdom had subsided some, and that he would be accepted back into the lives of the kingdom. She had hoped for so many things back then. The carriage that her brother road in on was unlike the one he had left with. No longer white and blue the vehicle was am assaulting array of purples and blacks. The guards assigned to him were also new. Silver Wind had hoped nothing bad had happened to him to cause for a change of guard. The thought was broken as a man with broad shoulders stepped out from the carriage into the snow. Adorned with a dark blue mantel with fur trim and black arm and leg guards. He brushed flecks of snow off of his black tunic, only the symbol of the tunic wasnt a crystal with four lines around it, the symbol for the nation of Glacina, but rather a large star with with smaller stars accompanying it. His face soured. "I always hated the cold." He grimaced. Stepping towards the Queen who had a hand rested on the great wolf Lance stopped to look at the great beast. The wolf barred his fangs at this strange man and snarled. "Tell me sister, have I changed so much you do not recognize me as well?" "I see the west has been good to you." she said trying to sound optimistic. Only to met with a coy smile. "I see the east has not been as kind to you." He slowly turned around to look at the castle gazing over if as if to look upon it for a final time. "Ahem, I am sure you are wary from your travels. I have had your old room prepared for you. Or would you rather meet your people first?' She didnt want to push him too fast. He had been gone for almost a decade and she could sense something was off with him. "Meet my people aye?" He said as he began to chuckle to himself. His sister was showing signs of worry, but Polaris was too entertained at thought of the people who shunned him, who HATED him were HIS people. "No, they are NOT my people." He turned to face his sister again. Eyes glowing in a deep purple. "They will NEVER be MY people!" His shouting alerted the guards and made Lance prone ready to attack. "My people will never question me! MY people will never toss me aside!" He stepped closer towards his sister. "My people will not have such a disgraceful ruler like you as there leader." Arching his hand a bolt of blue lighting was shot at the princess only to be intercepted by Lance. Always a loyal member of the family it was second nature to shield the queen from the attack. The wolf was frozen solid. Encased in a block of ice. Before he could ready another wave of ice Silver Wind used her magic to spirit herself away from her her brother. Leaving her men and her castle behind. Her brother, who was now drunk on whatever power he had gained from his travels, was in the process of turning all of the kingdom to ice. Over 40% of the royal city was frozen over citizens running for their lives some bring frozen in place. A flash freeze came over houses and stores and streets, and farms. Till nothing but tundra of ice and death remained. Queen Silver Wind seeing her brothers insanity commanded her brother to put a stop to this. She commanded that she and him have a duel to decide the fate of their kingdom. One that she never intended to have. She with the help of a group of neighboring kingdoms warriors trapped him inside a sarcophagus. Knowing it would only hold his rage and fury for a few seconds she had to think. She thought of sending the box to the moon like the Nightmare Moon tale she had heard as a filly. But she knew that if it were true Equestria`s ruler would have made it impossible for anything else to reach it. So she did the next best thing. She sent her brother in a box to the far reaches of the sky as close to the moon as she could so that he would be trapped with its orbit forever being the star that was to burn brightest in its rage and be locked until his spirit and mind were calmed. Looking upon the remains of her kingdom devastated her. But what truly broke her heart was that now she properly alone.first her father, then her mother, and now. The queen decided to rebuild her kingdom, salvage what she could, and await the day when her brother would come back to his senses and rule beside her as family. She decided to wait. "So came to be the story of The North Star and the prince locked in a box. The end." Said Twilight Sparkle with a sigh as she closed her book. "Read us another one Miss Sparkle! Please read us another!" Cried a whole class of fillies. "Now now children Miss Sparkle needs to be on her way." The teacher told them. "Now say thank you and goodbye class." As Princess Celestia`s prime student Twilight was finishing up a 'Give the schools a hoof' program and her duty was to go around the neighboring cities and read to the young ones. She didn't find it too bad until the children stopped paying attention. A book read to others is a book ought to be heard she thought walking down the street to her hotel. As twilight headed back to her hotel she heard something in the distance a loud booming noise and smoke rising from the south. Where it came from she couldn't tell but it sounded big. She gathered her things from her room and asked the pony behind the counter if her traveling companion had already checked out. The pony behind the counter answered that she checked out this morning and gave Twilight the message he had been given. "Dearest Twilight," the note began, "Worry not of our well being as we shall be taking a later train home. We wish to "see the sights" Princess Luna." "That Luna I swear she acts more like a filly then a princess sometimes!" she exclaimed to herself as she left to board the train. There was nothing she could do but trust the princess and get some rest on the train she had a lot to do when she got back. Author's Note There will not be much involving Twilight Sparkle but more so on Luna and the Oc. His name is Frostjack. he story of the north star takes place 600 years after the nightmare moon thing. And Twilight was in the town of Trottingham. (SUBNOTE) I touched up a bit on the story, did some revisions and such. Hopefully it flows a bit better this time. Also I know its been like 4 years! I guess I just had writers block!? Any who ill get to revising the rest of this story and finishing it up within the new chapters following Ch. 4. //-------------------------------------------------------// Ch. 1 //-------------------------------------------------------// Ch. 1 The day was a typical thursday in Trottingham and Princess Luna was rudely awaken by the sound of a knock at her door. Noticing that her room was more brightly lit then usual she deduced that it was well past the time of her wake up call. The princess decided, reluctantly to get up from her bed and answer the door. As she made her way to the front of the room she looked at the mirror and saw how much of a rats nest her hair was from her sleep. Usually she would be upset by this but because she got such a grand night of sleep she decided to pay little mind to it. Using her magic she fixed herself up just enough to be presentable for the pony behind her door. Clearing her throat the princess opened the door and greeted the bell hop. "Good morning a pleasant day to you." she said with a slight bow of her head. The bell hop who was pulling a tray of assorted containers replied to the princess with a slight chuckle. "Good afternoon you mean your majesty. Why its almost one oclock" Luna not wanting to show the young stallion her newly found state of panic quickly laughed it off, gave the young stallion a few bits as tip and proceeded to eat her brunch in a matter almost un-lady like for one such as her. She had no need for formalities when she was alone so hurried her eating was. Normally she would not be eating in such hast but she had an agenda to keep today. She along with Twilight Sparkle, her sisters favorite student, were visiting Trottingham for political reasons. Princess Celestia was worried that the sudden changes in trade routes were effecting the cities economy negatively. It was Lunas job to talk to the mayor to see if anyones busyness needed aid. She was relieved to hear the mayor say that not a single soul had sent in a request for aid. The mayor then proceeded to tell the princess that the people of Trottingham are strong in will and that they are quick to adapt. Princess Luna was sure to make a note of that in her letter to her sister she sent. Princess Luna, while still chewing the last of her meal when she summoned her magic to gather to aid in her packing. She had been staying the classiest hotel that Trottingham had to offer. Though having three stars being there best the hotel had to hire more staff once they heard that they were to house a princess and one of the elements of harmony. Nevertheless Lunas and Twilights stay was a pleasant one. Luna glancing at the clock noticed that it was almost one-thirty. She had better check out before Twilight had gotten back from reading to the fillies at there school. Twilights mission in this city was to visit all of the local elementary schools and say few words to the young ones. The elements of harmony were admired like real life heros so it was no surprise that the children would be delighted to see her. Packing her things into here saddle bag she walked down to the front counter and asked the Maitra d to carry a message to her companion when she came back. "But of cource your highness." The Maitra d said while grabbing a pen and paper. "Thank you. Please tell her that I will be taking a later Train tomorrow morning and that I shall see her in Canterlot on Saturday. Also tell her that I have my sisters blessing so she should not worry." The Princess said waiting for pen to come to a stop. "Very good princess might I inquire to what you are doing and be so bold to make a recommendation?" Luna thought the Maitra d`s request to be refreshing. "I am running a few errands as well as picking up a souvenir or two. Tell me are there any bakeries in these parts?" She asked thinking of Tia in mind. "Why yes there is a grand bakery over near the capital building, gourmet delights fit for or a queen!" he said with a hoof in the air. "Or in your case a princess." The princess and her sister had been raised on gourmet food and she did not think getting more of the same old thing sounded appealing as a gift. "Are there not any more...inexpensive locations to purchase sweets?" she asked. The Maitra d quickly understanding thought long and hard about this question. "Well if you dont mind going into the more shady parts of the downtown area there is one place that has the best banana cream pie I have ever tasted." "Perfect, I thank you for your information." She said with a smile. This was the part of the trip she had looked forward too. She had heard many things about Trottingham like how it was the second largest city in Equestria or how Its second mayor had discovered steam power, but the thing that caught her attention most was the fact that the downtown area was supposedly filled to the brim with steam. She had been uptown where it was prim and proper like most of Cantrelot so she became very bored very quick. Now she could go see the hustle and bustle of a downtown city! She would get a disguise so that no one would temper the tongues or attitudes around her like the pony before her. She didn't mind the politeness so much as the daily routine it held. a bow before and after speaking, plastered smiles during the whole conversation, such a dull time. The Maitra d however had been making a valiant effort to keep the conversation and for it she would personally see to it that this hotel would become no less then a four star establishment. She thanked him and went on her way. She was beaming with excitement that of a young filly. she would need to get a change of clothes to fit in with the locals _____________________________ 'Another typical Thursday.' Thought one stallion while walking through the streets of his home city. "Eleven o`clock and I already want a break." He laughed aloud. "I haven't even gotten to work and- Horseapples! Im going to be late!" The realization of his tardiness gave him an adrenaline boost that he was far too familiar with. Now at a full gallop he ducked and weaved through ally ways and shops grabbing a bit of food from his favorite bakery The Bread and Butter. The young stallion snatched a piping hot plate of cheery pie from the counter and proceeded to the back door only to be stopped by Sour Dough the owner. "Cought`cha this time you little thief!" He proclaimed as he smacked a wooden spoon against his other hoof sneering at his freshly caught pray. "Hehe, looks like you got me this time Mr. Dough I guess ill give this back and be on my way." He said as he tried to squeeze by his capture. "Oh no ya don`t!" Mr. Dough grabbed him by the collar. "Your going to pay for the other four you stole! Then I might let you off the hook." Holding his arms up the young stallion tried to compromise. Mr. Dough be reasonable here, how could I NOT be tempted to grab a bite or two of your delicious bake goods." Now resting his hooves on Mr. Dough`s arms. Mr. Dough wanted to see where he was going with this so he let him down not realizing he had picked him up. "The smell, the aroma, of these things could make a king steal!" Realizing his flattery Mr. Dough interrupted. "But a king has money!" "That may very be the case but you know what a king DOSENT have that you do?" Mr. Dough was silent waiting for the answer. What could he a middle-aged baker have that a king didn't? The young stallion seeing the old stallion bewildered by his question smiled knowing he was as good as free. "Talent!" He said swiftly. "A king can only ask for something as wonderfully tasting as one of your cakes or pies. But YOU are the only one in the whole of Equestria-no, the world who can make something so sinfully good." he said taking a bite of the pie he had recently stolen. He looked like he had just experienced eating for the first time. Mr. Dough, having customers who only had nothing but critique for his creations found renewed hope in his bakery. "Well, when ya put it like that!" He said with a puffed out chest. "I guess I can let this one slide. But you still have to pay for the other four!" He yelled remembering to not let him off the hook so easily. "How bout I sweep up for free a couple of days after work? You must be so tired after perfecting these baked goods everyday you don`t have time to sweep! Let me do that and you take a load off!" Mr. Dough didnt see the harm and set an arrangement and let the young stallion on his way. "Ill never know how he gets me to agree to such a deal." He said to himself shaking his head. "Its because your a big softy." His wife ridiculed. Knowing his wife to be right he let it go and went back to his oven. ____________________________ "Darnit! That took way too long!" He said slowing his pace as he walked into the building. He picked up his time card and looked at the clock. the clock read a a quarter to twelve. he sighed as he punched his card. "Frostjack your late. Again!" He heard his boss yell over the intercom. "How can he see me be late?" He said to himself. "Because I`m the boss! Thats how!" The intercom said. "Your office is on the other side of the building!" Frostjack yelled in a fit of frustration. It was the same thing every day, arrive at work just to be yelled at by his boss. Frostjack worked at the Stacks Brothers and company Steam powered plant, or The Stacks as it was refereed to. He had been working as the resident "clean up boy" for the whole facility ever since the safety regulations were changed. The Stacks was already short changing its employees as it was so the manager in charge of the building hired Frostjack. Just turning sixteen he thought he could short change him even more by letting him work for free and saying that he would 'write him a recommendation.' Frostjack hadn`t been raised to be a fool so he negotiated a minor salary of thirty bits a month. Just enough to keep up his rent. And so the routine went for two years. As the lunch bell rang it was his duty to clear out all the trash bags so as his co-workers were eating he was setting up the court. He always did his job but that never stopped him from having fun at it. As lunch was beginning to end and the workers leaving the cafeteria they passed Frostjack and a small basketball court with a large trash can at the edge. The workers would then get there jollies out of trying to make baskets and when missing the whole work force would boo them out of the cafeteria. Everyone took it well as it was all in good fun and so the rest of the day went with ease. The workers would usually make jokes about the smallfrys and in every conversation Frostjacks name would always come up what with him being the newest and all. Most of there jokes were crude and distasteful but Frostjack always shrugged them off. In his mind he thought that if they didn't mock him theyd probably mock someone who would get upset and start a fight then the whole building would be a terrible place to work. His first few months there Frostjack realized that most of the workers came to work early and left late because they either had no one to go home to or that the ones they had to go home to didn't want them there. He made his mind up to make sure that they could work there problems out at work with there friends then at home by themselves. Even if it was at his expense. Today was especially rough for him because while cleaning the tables off one of the workers by the name of Brick Builder, whom everyone knew was having hard times having ends meet, found one of Frostjack`s books. Frostjack still being a colt at heart was in the middle of reading one of his favorite graphic novels. Trick or Twirl. A story about a city colt who lies his way into kingdom of never ending whirlwinds only to make himself the new king. It wasn't his favorite but he liked the idea of someone like him becoming royalty. His sister used to tell him stories as such before she ran away leaving him to fend for himself. Stories like this reminded him of simpler times that he longed for. Unfortunately he could not reminisce for long because Brick Builder was tearing up his novel saying that he should grow up and act like a Stallion. He could smell the alcohol on his breath from here. He only felt contempt for Brick as he was throwing the book around. He couldn't let this go on because someone else would see and report him. Brick Builder wasn't a mean pony he was just in a hard time in his life. Frostjack retrieved the book only to be shoved by Brick. Swearing to himself he walked out of the cafeteria. Later his boss came by. "So Frostjack, anything interesting happen today?" He said as a father would say to there son. Not wanting to get him in trouble he feigned ignorance. "Same old same old. Why did I miss something cool?" He asked with a grin. Not wanting to pry the information out of him he let it be. "No just rumors." He said as he trotted away. "Just... if anyone bothers you you come to me understand?" Saluting his bosses back he replied. "Yes sir!" Leaving him alone his boss went to check on the other part of the rumor he heard. The clock rang nine and the workers who had a place to go went. The workers who didn't stayed for a little while longer and nopony questioned it. Frostjack`s nightly duty was to make sure the bathrooms and floors were spotless. He was always the second to last to leave around eleven. The last being the Mr. Hardware the boss. After putting his cleaning supplies away. Hardware was lecturing him about being late. "Yeah yeah it wont happen again." Frostjack said shrugging it off. Hard ware about to blow a fuse noticed that a light was still on from the janitors closet. "I have a dinner arrangement tonight. Go and turn off that light for me will ya?" He asked while walking away. "Sure but this counts as overtime right?" Hardware said nothing as he continued walking not wanting to justify that question with an answer. "Right okay!" Frostjack said answering his own question. As he continued down to see where the light was coming from he heard a large clang like metal crashing against metal. "That sounded like it came from the bosses office." he thought as he quickened his pace. peaking his head through the open door he saw or should he say smelled a drunken Brick Builder hitting the safe in the bosses office with a crowbar. "Stupid jerk!" Builder said with a slur of his speech. "This`ll teach him! Fire me?ME!?" he shouted as he swung at the safe cracking it open. As the bits started falling out one rolled over to the door where Frostjack was. "Whozzat? Ill kill ya!" Brick started to chase Frostjack around the facility swinging the crow bar like a madpony. Frostjack being severely less intoxicated escaped the drunkard. Being too dark to see Brick Builder turned on all the lights as well as the machinery. Frostjack hiding in between a two large oil tanks yelped at the sudden noise they made. "There you are!" said Brick as he threw his crowbar missing him by a slim margin but tearing open the tank instead. As the oil was spreading threw the floor Frostjack tried running for the door but slipped . Being dazed slightly he was slow to get up. By the time he did Brick made his way down and picked up his crowbar getting ready to deliver the finishing blow. Fortunate for Frostjack the crowbar was covered in oil as well and slipped out of Bricks hooves as he went to swing. The crowbar hit a light bulb and caused sparks over the oil soaked floor. With the floor catching ablaze Brick Builder decided to jump over Frostjack dropping a bag of bits as he did. Frostjack swiftly followed but not before grabbing the money left next to him as a way of trying to save some profit. With the pair out of the burning building the police and fire fighters were on the scene in a matter of moments. As the police arrived Brick Builder started making a spectacle of himself. "Officer officer quick! Arrest that thief!" Brick pointed to the blue earth pony holding a bag of what looked like contained bits. "Freeze! Drop the bag and lie down on the ground!" The officer ordered. Frostjack regaining some of his mental facilities realized how the situation looked. Unfortunately he did not regain enough to remain calm. He was panicking he didn't want to go to jail but the thought of him being blamed for burning down The Stacks was way worse to him. A crowed was starting to appear and in this crowed he saw Mr. Hardware. The two made eye contact and just as Frostjack was about to speak, Hardware shook his head sadly and turned away. Struck with grief he did any young stallion in his position would do. He ran _______________________ The police searched early into the morning looking for him. With Brick Builder nowhere to be found Frostjack was the primary suspect. They searched high and low, in every ally way and gutter, from bookstores to bakeries they searched. All but one. The Bread and Butters doors remained closed long after the morning had started. Having nowhere else to go he sought refuge in the Doughs bakery. Mr. Dough was about ready to go out and find Brick Builder himself but his wife calmed him down. There solution was for him to get out of town for a little while until the whole thing blew over. Apparently Brick Builder was in debt to the gangsters that rule Downtown Trottingham and he was to get the cash and vandalize the building so that The Stacks would have to close so that a new business would move in. One owned by the mob. At least this is what Mrs. Dough had heard from the other bakers wives and anyone from Trorttingham could vouch that what went through there channels was true. There had been an APB look out for him. "Hmph! Fastest i`ve ever seen the cops here work." Said Mr. Dough. "The must have been bought. You need to disappear for a while, take a train ride to Manehattan wire me when you get there alright? Ill let you know when its safe to come back so you can sweep my floors." He gave Frostjack a clap on the back trying to cheer him up. "Now dont you worry dearie." Said Mrs. Dough. "Well hold down the fort here and we wont say a word." She gave him a scarf and a coat to cover himself up and a saddlebag with a few snacks and bits as well as his book. The scarf and bag both belonged to Mr. Dough when he was younger. The coat was a gift for there son but his birthday was along time from now and they could just save up for another. "Thank you, both of you I-I don`t know where id be right now without you two." He was starting to tear up. He had always been abandoned first by his father who left him and his older sister then his sister who left him. He was glad that he meet these two and he hoped to see them again. The three hugged and Mr. Dough quickly pushed him out the back door as they heard some one come in. "Get a move on or you`ll miss the train!" He whispered through the door. _____________________________ As he reached the train station he noticed the one headed for Manehattan was teeming with police ponies. All of the trains were. He didn't know what to do he needed to escape but where? He took a few deep breaths to get a calm head and assessed the situation. There was a train that had significantly less officers then the others though there were some royal guards. Probably because of all the rich ponies riding it he thought. He decided that the guards were not looking for him so he could just sneak on as one of the bag boys. It was all going according to plan till he got on the train. He paused "I guess I didn't think this far." he said laughing nervously to himself. As he saw the porter come by asking for tickets he did the only thing he could think of. He panicked! He ducked into the cabin nearest him and closed the door tightly. He then slid back to the far end of his seat and shut his eyes hoping to become invisible. "Can I help you?" a feminine voice across from him asked. The voice belonged to non other then princess luna who had just finished a cup of tea. She was adorned in her 'street clothes' still from her earlier shenanigans and did not feel like changing back into her regular crown. Being as smooth as ever he yelped with a most attractive "Eeep! Ah ha, sorry miss is this your cabin? I guess I got in he wrong one. Ill just be leaving now sorry to disturb." He said quickly, started to stand he noticed the stallion asking for tickets. "On second thought," he started to say as he sat back down. "The more the merrier right?" There was a long awkward pause while he was thinking up an excuse for being here but non came to mind. Finally relenting in the silence he spoke. "My name is Frostjack, whats yours?" Astonished that one of her subjects could not recognize her the princess was at a loss for words. Princess Luna was amazed that her disguise had worked so well! As she opened her mouth to tell him of her true identity a sudden thought hit her. The thought was so out of the ordinary that she couldn't fathom the idea that it came from her own mind. Instead of telling him that she was a princess and end up startling him what with the whole Nightmare Moon business and all that, she would say that she was like him. Just your average everyday mare taking a train ride. She would be able to have a nice civil conversation with somepony. Something she hadn't had in ages. It would be good therapy to get back in touch with her subjects even if it was undercover. They would get off the train and go there separate ways and none would be the wiser. "Ah yes my name is... Moon... beam. Yes Moonbeam!" She said all to excitedly. "Back to the point, why are you in my cabin? Are you hiding from somepony?" She had noticed the police around the train station and wondered if anything was the matter. She thought it had something to do with the fire see heard about while in the downtown area. Frostjack wanted to lie to save himself the trouble, nut something about this mare would make him feel... guilty about not opening up to her. "Um... before I tell you anything I just want you to know that Im not a bad guy, I just had some bad luck thats all." He waited for Moonbeam to respond. She did with a raised eyebrow and a slight nod. He sighed and began to tell her all about the last twenty or so hours. All starting when he arrived late at work to when he sought shelter at the Dough`s bakery. "I was at that bakery!" Luna shouted with a look of shock on her face. "Shhh! Not so loud!" He whispered at her. "Im not supposed to be on this train so if they find me I`m done for." Just as he finished his sentence the door opened up and the words he was relenting hear ran through his ears. "Tickets please." Frostjack`s face turned a ghostly shade of white. "I ah..Um..." He darted from the porter to luna and back again not knowing what to say, his words trying to keep in time with his brain. The porter was becoming impatient and was looking for an officer to escort him out. Luna not wanting to reveal her status nor see her new acquaintance be arrested tried something, once again she could not fathom coming from her mind. "Oh darling did you leave your tickets in your other coat again?" She said as sweetly as possible. "I am terribly sorry about this he so forgetful at times. Are you not, darling?" She said more at him then to him. Never had been called 'darling' before Frostjack was more a loss for words then before. all he could do was nod slowly. "I have my ticket but I could never leave him. Do you think you can overlook this just this once?" She asked while putting a small bag filled with bits on the table closest to the porter. Taking the bag and putting it in his pocket he replied with a big smile. "Well I don`t see why we cant fudge the rules a little bit every once and a while. You two enjoy your ride and if you need any champagne just feel free to ask." As the door shut the two looked at each other in silence. It was broken by a sudden fit of laughter from them both. "I cant believe you did that! You could have gone to jail for stuff like that!" The princess settling down from her laughing gave it a thought. "And setting a building a blaze it perfectly legal im sure." She said with a snicker. Hey! thats...pfft thats totally different!. He tried to defend himself but the laughing was coming back in force between the two. The laughing becoming contagious for them they couldn't stop even if they wanted to. They laughed for a good five minutes with pause causing quite a ruckus and certainly becoming a nucince to the other passengers. When they calmed down long enough to catch there breath there conversation resumed. "Why, if I may ask, are you leaving town?" Luna inquired. Frostjack feeling much more comfortable with the topic now that he was almost in the clear decided to think about that himself. "Its because I don`t want to get thrown in jail. Yeah that seems like a good reason to skip town. That and Ive always wanted to travel!" He said jokingly. "Are you not innocent?" she asked. "Well, yeah but-" "Then inform the officers and let justice take its course." she said with out an ounce of reserve. Not wanting to insult his strange new friend he explained the fact that most of Trottingham, as well as the 'justice' was owned by Three Horns and his cronies. Princess Luna`s look of shock made Frostjack feel like he had said something distasteful. "Im sure the princesses would put a stop to it if they had known." she said as if trying to convince herself. "Gazing out the window he replied. "I think even if they knew about it they wouldn't be able to do much." Luna asked him why he thought that while trying to hold back the venom from her words. "You take down one bad guy another shoots up to take his place. At least with Three horns he provides the rest of the city wit revenue even if it is dirty money." Luna was astonished. Not so much the fact that he said the princess were powerless to stop such vile acts but that he was right. Her and her sister never payed much attention to Trottingham because they always seem to solve there own problems. "I hated it there." Fighting the urge to change the topic she inquired as to why he carried such negativity for his hometown. "Ive got nothing but bad memories. A few good ones but none that made my time there meaningful. "My sister and I were abandoned by our father when were young my sister took care of me for a few years and then poof! She left me too, " He paused "she didn't even say good by." He noticed himself starting to tear up and wiped his eyes on his sleeves. Luna starting to tear up herself from hearing such tale of abandonment was reminded of her time on the moon. She remembered feeling alone and unloved. She knew what he was feeling and so she put a hoof on his shoulder and looked him in the eyes. Seeing her upset over his life story made him him breakdown. looking into those sad eyes of hers, those deep blue eyes, looking so sad, so lonely he couldn't bare it. He reached out for her and her for him and they held each other as they started to cry, in the same spot where they had been busting there guts not ten minutes ago. They had an understanding of one another. Frostjacks understanding that he was not alone in his strife and Lunas understanding that she truly felt for this pony and him being sad made her sad. She had never had such an emotion towards any creature besides her sister. They held each other for what seemed like most of the train ride, sniffling all the way. Finally Frostjack pulled away with a soft smile. "How `bout I go get us some of that champaign to lighten the mood eh?" Luna only nodded as he got up and opened the door. "Moonbeam?" He asked before he left. Moonbeam looked his way. "Thank you for crying with me. It helps to cry with a friend" Luna started to tear to again at the thought of being called a friend. She had been noponies friend in ages. He chuckled "That kind of sounds lame now that I think about it." and he left. Moonbeam was left by herself filled with guilt. She wish she had not lied to him and told her who she was. She wanted to hear him call her by her name. But she knew that if she had done that he might have not told her as much as he had. Wouldn't he? Anyway she felt like a hypocrite for not telling him the truth after he had told her nothing but. She decided to tell him when he came back with the drinks. But what was this? She felt something rise in the pit of her stomach. It was an emotion she was all to familiar with. Fear. She was fearful of his reaction. Would he feel betrayed? Would he hate her for lying to his face? Or worse would he be scared of her? Would he treat her with every ounce of reserve her subjects normally did when she was out and about? These questions plagued her mind. But she was interrupted by the sound of the door opening. "Whoops! My bad." she heard Frostjacks voice say from the cabin next to her. Even though she was extremely worried her giggles could not be contained. "Moonbeam? he whispered. "Moonbeam where are you? "I am here." she whispered back though her giggles. All of her uneasiness had disappeared for some reason. She had to guess it was because of him. Her mind was made up. She would tell him. Author's Note So, I didn't intend to make this chapter super long so don`t get used to it! Unless you guys like long chapters like this. Then Ill see what i can do! Tell me what you think, bare in mind ive been writing these at like midnight to two am so if something does not make sense to you let me know cuz I might have forgotten to fix it. //-------------------------------------------------------// Ch. 2 //-------------------------------------------------------// Ch. 2 Frostjack, just shutting the door to the cabin where he meet the most remarkable mare he ever meet, decided to take a look for the nice stallion who had offered him and his "marefriend" a bottle of champaign. He said he had wanted to get it to lighten the mood but he had another reason. Thinking of his past made his heart ache as well as seeing such sadden eyes in Moonbeam... He didn't think he could last much longer sober. He needed something to take the pain away. Suddenly he stopped his tracks. The pain he usually felt from thinking about his sister wasn't so heavy. In fact he felt like he could shrug it off. The years of betrayal and heartache was being lifted in a matter of minutes. "How?" he asked himself softly. He started walking again. Was it because of her? What had she done? He pondered it for a few moments as he made his way to the dinning cart. The porter was reading a newspaper that was dated for the previous day. Frostjack relented in thinking that he could have been in the paper and was glad that they did not carry the current issues. Noticing the blue stallion the porter smiled as he went about reading his paper not looking at him. "Ah, I was wondering when you would show up. Taking me up on my offer are we?" He said with a twinkle in his words. "Ah to young and in love. Tell me how does it feel?" He inquired trying to get a blush out of the young boy. "I dont think I have ever felt like this before." He replied automatically. "I feel almost like a new pony because of her." He focused on the moving scenery as he continued. "She takes my worries from me." The old stallion put his paper down at the end of Frostjacks answer. The porter had been in love before and had a child and wife to show for it, but what he saw in this colts eyes made him remember tender moments that he and his wife used to share. Snapping out of his own thoughts Frostajck apologized but was swiftly dismissed. "You should never apologize for being in love." The porter got up and went to the counter and asked the mare behind the bar for a bottle of champaign. She, hearing every word, was more then glad to oblige. "Here you are my boy." He said handing him the bottle with two glasses. "And be sure not to 'forget' your ticket next time." He said with a wink. After thanking the porter he began walking back to his cabin. He thought of what he said and what the old stallion told him. 'I cant be in love I just meet her.' he thought to himself. 'If anything she probably has a colt back home waiting for her." his shoulders shrank in the thought of somepony else holding her. He shook his head furiously. What was he doing? Making crazy fantasies. She was a nice mare who had been through similar situations. He was happy just to have meet her, surly she couldn't feel anything like that for him. Sure she was beautiful. Not just in looks but in her kindness. Most mares that he knew of would laugh or pity him for crying. Not her, she had been there for him and cried with him. She had made him feel safe while being at a state of weakness. She was absolutely a beautiful mare. He had to admit to himself at this point that he was a tad bit infatuated with her. But he let the thought go. Surly she couldn't feel that way about him. Right? The thought plagued him as he opened the cabin door. "Yes? What do you want?" said a rather rude and uppity mare. "Whoops! My bad!" He said as he shut the door. how could he forget what cabin he was in! He felt like such a fool. Just then he heard a faint giggling coming from one of the cabins. 'That sounds like Moonbeam.' He thought her giggle to be extremely cute. he longed to hear more of it. He decided to at least ask if she had a special somepony. Ya know to make conversation. "Moonbeam? he whispered. "Moonbeam where are you?" He heard a quite answer filled with suppressed laughter. "I am here." Her voice said. He was glad he tuned his ears to her voice less he might have missed where it was coming from. He opened the door to the cabin to find her right where she was when he left only moments ago. "Ah the porter was good to his word I see" she said looking at the bottle. "Yep, he is quite the character." He said putting the bottle and glasses down on the seat. Luna was silent. Frostjack thought it was because she wanted him to open the champaign. As he was trying to looses the cork Luna started to finally speak. "Frostjack?" She asked almost timidly. He made a rather impatient 'Mhm' noise as he began to struggle with the bottle. "I regret to say that I have not been at all honest with you. I need to tell you something about myself. About who I really am. I hope you still find a friend in me." She said lowering her head slightly. She was getting scared again and almost abandoned the whole ordeal. She looked at him and saw just how hard he was struggling with the bottle. Griping it at both ends he was pulling with mighty strength. She almost fell pray to another fit of laughter when she saw how his tongue was stuck out in concentration. He stopped for a moment to rest his arms. Sighing with frustration. Giving her his full attention he started, "Moonbeam you can tell me anything, you listed to my story and accepted it. What kind of friend would I be if I didn't do the same. Go on I promise whatever you say will change nothing!" He said holding a hoof over his heart. He went back at the bottle. The princess felt dizzy with delight. He had called her his friend. She didnt have many. Her sister was about the only other pony who talked to her besides Twilight recently and that was only out of obligation. She felt her uneasiness settle again. She took a deep breath and began once more. "This may come as a shock but you see, I am not a civilian such as yourself. I am actually a member of the royal-" 'BANG!' the cork from the bottle wized around the room hitting surface after surface. It knocked some of Lunas things above there heads lose as its madness came to a stop. "Whoa." Frostjack said uncovering his head. "Sorry about that Moonbeam what were you saying?" Luna started up again and was starting to dislike her new name. "Ahem, as I was saying I am a member of the royal family." She paused letting him soak the idea in. His eyes never left hers as he nodded to let her continue. "I am none other then-" 'CRASH' The luggage from above being knocked off balance by the cork finally gave way and had fell on top of them both. Moving aside the luggage he offered a hand to her. "Are you okay Moonbeam?" "OUR NAME IS NOT MOONBEAM! WE ARE PRINCESS LUNA OF EQUESTRIA!" She proclaimed in her Canterlot voice. She was finally free of the burden of her secret. Now she had to bare seeing his reaction. He looked at her with ears still ringing from her loud voice. He cleared his thought and picked up the champaign bottle now half empty due to being spilt, pored a glass and gave it to her. She took it almost unwillingly and stared at it as he poured himself a glass. She shut her eyes tight. She could feel his answer be one of disappointment she just knew it. Was she destined to be alone? Doomed to life of isolation without comfort? Had she not suffered enough with her subjects fearing and hating her? Her thoughts were interrupted by a sharp clanging of two glasses. "Do you know what champaign is primarily drunken for?" he inquired with a face as straight as the horizon. "Celebration." He stood to his feet putting his glass out slightly. "I propose a toast." He said gesturing Luna to stand with him. Being dumbfounded she could only obey. "I would like to toast this train. For without it I would have never escaped my certain doom." He started to take a sip but paused before his lips reached the glass. "Oh yes, and to meeting the most kind and compassionate mare in Equestria. To Princess Luna, my ridiculous new friend." He took a sip as Luna stood he glass shaking in her hooves. He had called her kind, and compassionate. Most importantly he had called her his friend again. What he had said stuck so many cords that she couldn't help but sob. She crouched down on the floor crying with tears of what she could only fathom as joy. Not knowing what he did wrong Frostjack started to panic. 'Ponyfeathers! Did I say something wrong? What to do what to do?' Luna still crying her heart out felt something warm wrap around her. She felt it tighten around her curled up body. She looked up to see what it was. It was Frostjack! He had both arms wrapped tightly around the princess trying his best to comfort her. "Im so sorry princess I didn't mean to upset you. I just wanted to- I dont know just make you laugh and now Ive gone and done the opposite! Im so sorry!" She looked at him through waterlogged eyes and saw that he too was starting to cry. "You have not upset us." She said through sniffling. "We have not heard such kind words from a subject in over a thousand years. It is.., difficult to process such kindness, such warmth." She was starting to tear up again. She cursed herself for not having better control over her emotions. Still being held she put her head in his chest as he put his hoof on her head slowly stoking it. Her sobs were muffled in Frostjacks chest. The pain of her insecurities were leaving her after each stroke of her hair. The walls around her heart were beginning to crumble without her permission. She had felt so safe in his arms she wished to stay there longer but she decided that this was enough for one day. She pulled away form him which took more willpower then she was willing to note on at the moment and took up her glass and asked for it to be refilled. He was more than happy to oblige. "I would also like to make a toast." She said as she smiled softly with the steaks of tears still wet on her cheeks. "To our new friendship. May we treasure it always." She took a graceful sip. and sat back down. The pair stayed silent for a small time Frostjack smiling at Luna and Luna smiling at Frostjack. It was not an uncomfortable silence but one of understanding. They had meet only hours prior and yet they felt like long time friends. After a short while longer Frostjack had muster enough courage to ask his question. "So." He paused as to not hurt the most comfortable of silences. "So princess, do... you um... have a special somepony?" He asked timidly. Luna`s smiling expression turned to one of embarrassment. She had never really thought about those types of relationships. Well except recently. During the time of calm silence she had been looking at him all to carefully. When ever his eyes would move from her to the door or window she found herself indulging in his more physical features. He wasn't too tall, about as tall as she was if not shorter. He had the most lovely shade of beautiful shade of green eyes which matched the streak in his mane and tail. She could not see his flank very well but she was sure that it worth the wait to look. His shoulders were not too wide and she pondered on how he held her. She then remembered where she was. "Sorry I did not quite catch that." She said trying to play it off. It was bad enough asking the first time! He was feeling very self conscious about this question but she it worth knowing the answer. "I asked if you had a special somepony. Surely the beautiful Princess Luna has had stallions lining up." he said with a wink. She then remembered why she was blushing and then she was sadden by the question. "My subjects do not find me... attractive." she said solemnly. "I refuse to believe that." he said while pouring her another glass. "I refuse to believe that anypony would not find you to be the pinnacle of divine beauty." She took a sip. "You think I look divine?" she asked hiding her tone of intrigue. Pouring himself a glass he replied. "Without a doubt. If you don`t mind me saying Princess, you are the most beautiful creature I have ever seen." he downed his glass. She was silent for a while. "Please, call me Luna." she said. "Alright... Luna" He said slowly testing the waters. 'Luna.' She played his voice saying her name over and over again in her head. "What may I ask brought this question about?" she truly was curious. "Well... We were using the facade of being a couple earlier and I was wondering if you had anypony." "And me being beautiful had nothing to do with it?" she teased. "Well it didnt hurt that your beautiful." he said quickly. Luna was beginning to enjoy this more and more. "So tell me, if I were to say, hypothetically of course, that I was indeed... available, what would you do?" Catching on Frosjack thought this was the best time to try to impress Luna. But for some reason he didn't know why. "Well I would first ponder on how someone as, gorgeous as yourself could remain single. And then, hypothetically speaking, I would have to ask you to dinner." Thinking for a moment he had just thought about what he said. "I mean, not that I would have a ghost of a chance with a princess! Hahaha..." Luna could see the blush in his face, it gave her the courage to press further. "Hmm, I guess your right. You really wouldn't, I mean you DID make me cry twice in the same day." She stole a glance at Frostjack who seemed very perturbed at this. "And just what would you know about it?" He said putting his nose to the air. "For all you know I am world class romantic!" She leaned in close to him. "Is that soo?" She said with a lusty strain in her voice causing him to sweat. "And just how would you woe me then?" She was less then an inch away from his face. All he could do was pry that she could not read minds for if she heard what he was thinking he surly would be banished. He had to admit that her lips, being dangerously close to his, looked very soft. He then noticed at the angle she was leaning. her chest a little too close for comfort. her knees were touching his. He was almost to stunned by her to speak, "Well-Um-Id."- Just then the breaks began to activate, the train jerked forward bringing the princess along with it, out of her seat and onto Frostjack. she was facing him in his lap and she couldn't utter a word. Luckily he did. "Luna? Could you get off of me please?" he said wheezing. She noticed that one of her knees were placed on top on his groin. She made the unfortunate note of noticing the warmth. It would torment her for days on end. She got up and helped her friend to his feet. After a few moments he was fine and the two decided to leave. They exited the train station to find a royal carriage waiting for its princess. "Well I guess this is where we say so long?" he said sadly. Luna not being phased by the sadness in his voice had her things taken to the carriage. "What are you talking about? You will be coming with me. You do not have anyplace to go correct?" he shook his head. "Good! Then you will stay at the castle with me and my sister!" She said all to gleefully. Dumbfounded as he looked at her. He tossed his pack to one of the guards who put it with the princesses things. The pair climbed into the carriage and away they went. __________________________________ At the same time in the Kingdom of Glacina- Princess Silver Wind looked up at the highest star in the night sky burning with rage. "My dear brother I fear that my bonds will no longer be strong enough to hold you. When you awaken a champion will rise to meet you. And it will be the birth of a new king." A small unicorn mare came to the princess. "Your highness, communications have been established with the Princess of Equestria." "Thank you." The unicorn handed the princess a round crystal. "You may leave." "Yes highness." The crystal then projected a screen before the princess holding the image of Celestia herself. "Hello Silvia, and to what do I owe the pleasure?" "Hello Tia, I am afraid I have bad news. Polaris will crash in Equestria in four days time." Author's Note AHH SHIT SON! Plot development! Let me know if you guys like the pace or if you want things to be speed up. //-------------------------------------------------------// Ch. 3 //-------------------------------------------------------// Ch. 3 "Whoa everything is so... Shinny!" Said Frostjack loooking through the window of the carriage. "Hey Luna I-" He paused after turning back to see the sleeping princess. He thought nothing of it. She was the princess of the night so therefore took the 'night shifts' for Equestria. It was obvious that she slept during the day. 'Yes that must be it!' He thought to himself. He could only try to as still as possible, being right next to her he was lucky to not have woken her up already. He was rather close to her now that he thought about it. He wondered how many stallions would kill to be in his position. His mind was silent for a moment in the processing of what Luna had said earlier, about how her subjects see her. He looked at her again. 'How could anypony not see her as anything other than gorgeous is beyond me.' The carriage hit a bump on the road and Lunas head rolled over to one side landing ever so gently on Frostjacks shoulder. He could nothing but inhale. His extreme redness going unnoticed in this secluded carriage. He couldn't stop himself from staring at the rest of her. His eyes rested on her thighs, which he could see perfectly now that she had changed out of her 'street clothes' when they stopped for a bathroom break for him. They looked smooth and soft. He had heard of the tales and exploits of a mares legs from many of his co-wokers but nothing that he would dare dream of doing with the princess... Well he had heard of something called a lap pillow was it? He thought that might be nice to enjoy especially if it was with Luna. He decided to let his eyes wonder else where or his thoughts would get the better of him. Luna was stirring in her sleep trying to get more comfortable. she adjusted her head to her new pillow and moved her knees onto his. His redness intensified. He could see a bit more of her flank. 'Just a bit more and-NOPE! Not going there! Nu-uh!' He thought while turning his once again out the window. He was starting to feel shameful. He had just made a friend and was thinking these thought, how low could he be! He vowed to himself he would never think that way about her agai- "Yawwwn..."Luna had woken up. She looked up from Frostjacks shoulder. "You are very comfortable." She wrapped her arms around his and curled up even closer. She was out again. Frostjack didnt know what he was going to do, his vows he had just made were broken in the same instant! He thought about her again. He thought how rich life could be if he woke up with her by his side everyday. He could fall asleep to the rhythm of her steady breath. he rested his head on hers. "You`re pretty comfy yourself." He whispered as he too fell asleep. When they had arrived at the castle Luna woke up. She didn't want to for she was having an odd dream that she wished to see the end of. She noticed the position she was in, she saw how she and Frostjack looked like they were together. She thought about it, he made her laugh more so than even her sister at times. He had accepted her for who she is and not who she was. He saw her for her. And she loved that... 'What was that? Did I say loved?' She began to think about it more, Luna never thought she would feel something like that after the whole Nightmare moon fiasco. Maybe she did love him. She had a strong infatuation for him sure, but was it love? she couldn't tell. All she knew was that she was sleeping comfortable wrapped around his arm. She was ready to go back to bed right then and there, but she noticed where she was and figured that it was best to not have rumors floating around. She looked at Frostjack for a small moment. She noticed something about his physique that made her very flushed. She saw a subtle bulging coming from his lowers. This being her first time dealing with such a situation decided to not panic as she liked but to ignore it completely. She could go into his dreams to see if it was anything to do with her, but she was afraid to find out. She slide to the other side of the carriage as is pulled to a stop. She nudged him gently. "Frostjack... Frostjack. We have arrived... GOOD MOROW DEAR FROSTJACK!" Frostjack had never been awoken by the royal Canterlot voice before so him falling out the carriage door as it opened would to be expected. Princess Luna had a fit of uncontrollable laughter as he got up as if expecting an earthquake. A guard helped him up. "Your highness, we have arrived." Said the guard pony driving the carriage. He bowed to the pony not knowing what else to do. Luna stepped down while taking a hoof from Frostjack. She smiled at him, but in that instant her smile faded as she turned to the guard pony. "Take our guest`s things and prepare a room for him. Do the same with our own. We will be conversing with Celestia in the mean time Inform us when it has been completed." She ordered coldly. She picked up a bag. A gift for her sister. Frostjack was taken aback on how frigid she was. But then how would he feel if he was in her horseshoes. "Right away your highness." Said the guard as repeated the order to the others. Luna bid him follow and he did. They walked through the big double doors and he saw that not a pony in sight was smiling. He tried to wave at a guard or two but they would just advert there eyes. "Do not pay any attention to them" Luna said noticing his actions. "Though they are the royal guard they do not care much for me. Which means that they do not care for you either." She said as they continued walking through the great hall. "I dont like that." He said under his breath. He turned his head back to see the guards looking at them with judging eyes. While he thought Luna wasn't paying attention he pulled down his bottom eyelid and stuck his tongue out at them. He heard a soft giggle from Luna. It was good hearing her laugh after seeing her so cold. "So, your sister is Princess Celestia right?" He said trying to strike a conversation. she nodded. "Will she be cool with me staying here? I mean I know its your castle too but, I was thinking about it. You bringing a strange stallion into the castle walls and all. I could be an evil wizard for you know." He said nudging her a bit. She smiled. "Well I know for one your not evil, and unless it has changed, I know that earth ponies can not be great wizards." She said with a pompous flair in her voice. "I CAST BLIND!" He yelled as he put his hooves over her eyes. She decided to play along. "Ekk! I have indeed been blinded!" She had put her front two hooves together and pleaded, "Oh great and powerful wizard please bestow onto me my eyesight!" "Hmm" He pondered for a second. "I am feeling merciful today so I shall, on one condition! I am named king of all the lands! Muwahahaha!" he released her eyes. She looked at him and smiled. "So you wish to be a king?" She said with teasing humor. He blushed and began to look at the ceiling for escape. "Well, Not like that maybe more like an evil dictator!" He said rubbing his hooves together. Luna was not so impressed as she continued down the hall. She thought he would have made a fine king... If only he had a queen to rule by his side. She put her thoughts on hold as they had arrived at the throne room. The guards opened one of the large doors. Frostjack thought to himself how funny it would be if only one door was able to be opened. He then saw how big the place actually was. It was huge! He could fit five of his apartments in here! "Hello Luna, Who`s your friend?" Princess Celestia said putting down a quail and paper. Luna walked towards her sister with a beaming smile. "My friends name is Frostjack! I meet him in Trottingham." Frostjack thought she sounded like a filly showing off he new friend. "Its a pleasure to meet you your majesty. You and Luna have a lovely home." He said with a bow. "I hope you dont mind my intrusion." He had read a few books on how to act in the presence of nobility when he was younger. Him and his sister used to play pretend and she would always be the noble. Celestia looked around to see if anypony was around to see them. She let out a big sigh and walked closer to them a bit to quickly then what is normally acceptable for a princess. "Its no trouble at all, a friend of Lulu`s is a friend of mine." She said giving her sister a unwelcome hug. Luna was trying to struggle against it but her sisters arms were wrapped tightly around her. "How was your night excursion? Did you see anything interesting? Did you bring me anything? I smell bake goods." "If you would stop choking me I would be delighted to answer your questions Tia. And dont call us that in front of our subjects." She leaned closer to her sister. "It embarrassing." This made Tia giggle which annoyed Lulu. Luna gave her the bag and Celestia opened it right away. "Nothing fancy just a regular cherrie pie. I thought we could have something other then the usual gourmet sweets for desert." When she had finished speaking she was tackled with another hug. "Oh Thank you Luna! I cant wait to try some." She said licking her lips. The pie was magically taken out of Celetias hooves and into Lunas. "Oh no you dont! Not until after dinner. Gracious Tia can you not contain yourself when we have company?" She said tiredly. The solar princess was pouting. "Okay I guess your rig- Gimmie that!" She said reaching for it. Luna was too tactful for her though. Putting her hoof on her sisters head she kept the pie out of harms way. The two fought over the pie for a good five minutes .Frostjack could stand there and laugh. Seeing the royal sisters fighting like fillies made him reminisce about him and his sister. It was almost the same situation too. His sister being all silly while he tried his best to keep her in line. Why was he thinking so much about her lately? A question he would have to ponder on later. "Excuse me your majesties." A guard pony said coming from behind them. "Mr. Frostjack`s bed chambers have been made." "Ah of course." Celestia said climbing off of her sister. "You must be tired after your long trip, please follow Stone Saber to your room. Would you do us the honor of having dinner with Luna and I?" Pausing to think for a moment he replied. "Hmm I dont know, I dont think im doing anything for dinner tonight. Hmm, I guess so." He said nonchalantly. This made them both giggle. "Then I shall send someone to get you. Until then please, rest." Princess Celestia said. "Thank you Princess. Ill see you at dinner." He said. "Oh please call me Tia, you use Luna`s first name use mine as well." Frostjack smiled, he had never been friends with two princesses before. He turned around to the where the guard was only to find Luna, staring at him. Smiling. She had informed him that she wished to accompany him to his room so she too would know where it is. She knew the area where he was staying well and told the guard that she would take him instead. Feeling very flattered, Frostjack held out his arm. "Well your majesty, shall we be off then?" She looped her arm around his. "Indeed we shall. This way please." She began to lead him out of the throne room. They walked arm in arm the whole time. They got a few stares from the servants who were busy cleaning and swapping stories. Frostjack seeing that Luna was becoming uneasy at the extra stares then what she was used to decided to act. He whispered in Luna`s ear. "Are you alright, we dont need to hold arms if you dont want to." She tightened her grip. "Absolutely not!" She said in a not so whisper tone. "As Princess I should be allowed to walk with my friend without fear of neigh-sayers!" She elevated her nose slightly. It was her turn to stick her tongue out at the ones behind them. Frostjack could do nothing to suppress his laughing. Luna finding his contagious joined in. There laughter echoing through out the halls. They laughed themselves all the way to Frostjack`s room. "This is me huh?" He opened the door. It was a million times better then his rundown apartment. The bed was the size of his kitchen! He galloped and leapt onto the bed. "Oh man THIS is a bed!" He said. "Luna, Luna you got to try this bed!" He said now bouncing on it. Luna blushed slightly, she had taken the statement in the wrong manner. "I do believe that my sister and I have business to attend." "Aww, okay but you need to get some rest too, you fell asleep on the ride over here." He said still bouncing. "I am fine really." She wanted to sound impressive but she knew she was failing. He bounced over to her. She was impressed to see his legs work. She would wish to see them work more but she tried not to think those thoughts. He was now very close to her. he looked her in the eyes. "You need your rest." He said calmly. "Promise me you`ll at least try to relax before dinner?" She couldn't refuse, not with his eyes looking so serious and yet so playful at the same time. "Alright, I shall try to find time." I will send some clothes for you for dinner." She said as she was leaving. "Whats wrong with what ive got-" he looked at himself in the mirror. His clothes were sweaty and dirt covered. "On second thought some dinner attire would be nice." He bid Luna farewell and plopped down on his bed. "Man, this is great." He thought to himself. "I made friends with two mares today and im staying in this sweet pad! What more could a guy ask for!?" He was silent for a while. He went through his bag and pulled out a necklace. He held it in his hand. It was a green emerald that was tied around string. he looked at it for a long time. "I wonder if your safe." He thought out loud. "I wonder if you even think about me." He turned on his side and went to sleep. Still clutching the emerald. ___________________________________________________ "At your service your highness." Said a rather emotionless and apathetic unicorn. She knelt before Princess Silver Wind`s throne. "Emerald I told you to drop the formalities when were alone." The princess said sweetly. "My apologies highness but we do not know when we are alone." The unicorn replied respectfully. "You never let up do you?" She said with a sigh. "Anyways I have called you here because I have an important mission for you." The unicorn Stood at attention. "You will be coming with me to Equestria to help make preparations for the falling of Polaris. The news of the falling star did not phase the young mare. Or at least it did not show on her face. "Gather what you can we must arrive at dawn." "Yes your highness." She said as she waited to be dismissed. "It will be good for you to see your brother again will it not?" She asked her statuesque subject. "I do not think 'good' would be a word I would choose." She said grimly. "I would say it would be... tearful, to say the least." "I worry about you sometimes Emerald." Author's Note Sorry about not posting chapters for a while. I got stuck. Lol Tell me what ya think! //-------------------------------------------------------// Ch. 4 //-------------------------------------------------------// Ch. 4 Princess Celestia was seated at her throne signing all the documents that she was given the same morning. She found herself displaced in her own thoughts. She was glad that her sister had found friendship but, she was... hesitant to say the least about her new friend. It wasn't to say that she didn't like him more so as she didn't know him. Celestia had to admit to herself she was a bit overprotective when it came to her little sister. She thought it was unnatural sight to see when she saw Luna walk in with a strange colt. She wished to know more about him, like why he had accompanied Luna, or how they met. She wanted to be sure that he wasn't a danger to her. Her thoughts were interrupted by the entrance of her sister, who Celestia could have sworn for a second was... Skipping? And what was she wearing? "Well?" She quarried while turning a full 360. "What dost thou think?" She had adorned her street clothes again to show her sister. She decided to humor her sister. "And just who are you strange mare?" She said jokingly. Luna laughed and ran up to the throne. She sat next to her sister. 'She is so full of sprit today, I wonder if shes feeling alright. I hope she didnt catch anything on the train.' Celestia pondered. "We knew you would find this look favorable." She said happily. She stayed at her sisters side for a while more. Celestia knowing the ways of her sister decided to let her ask the question on both there minds. Luna did as Tia hoped. "What are your thoughts on Frostjack?" She asked excitedly. "I do not know he seems like a well behaved young stallion. Though I feel as if he is hiding something." Luna bit her lip. She knew she was going to have to tell her sooner or later. Luna began to tell her of his trials from Trottingham but the sun princess quickly interrupted her.. "The fact that you trust him enough to bring him into our home is enough proof that he is trustworthy. I will ask him myself and let him decide if it was anything worth telling me." Luna sighed in submission. "We find that fair sister. Our only request is that you go easy on him?" She pleaded. "We do not want our new friend to be scared off." Celestia had to contain her bewilderment. 'Did she just called him a friend again? The first time I thought it was out of courtesy, but now!'She was both happy and cautious with her sisters development. Sure she was around 1000 years old or so, but her physiological make up was that of around twenty. Luna was growing up into a beautiful young mare. Surly she would be getting a few gentlemanly callers. For the sake of Luna`s safety she decided to press further. "You think quite fondly of this friend then?" She inquired as she returned to her papers. "Oh yes we think most highly of Frostjack! He... He has made us feel... Wanted again." She paused to smile. "He has shown us that we are ourself and that we are accepted. He cares not that we were once the Nightmare. In fact we think he doth not believe it so. He is one to look past that and sees us for who we are now." Celestia was deeply worried. Do not misunderstand. She was ecstatic that Luna was talking so fondly of another. Even more so happy that she was talking so fondly of herself. What worried her was that he could only be trying to get close to her to harm her. There have been incidents in the past of ponies trying to befriend nobles and even a member of the royal family in order to overthrow to the princesses. Celestia had made it so that Luna would never know about the numerous assassination attempts on both of there lives. If only to block the fear of her becoming more of a recluse then she already was. She still couldnt figure out how she let Luna talk her into her going unattended! Around Trottingham! Not well known for there hospitality. "Do you think of him as only a friend or... Could there be something more?" Celestia said coldly. Not catching on, Luna sighed aloud. "We are not sure Tia." She said exhausted. "We find him to be most handsome, not just in appearance but in heart as well. He make us feel... Uneasy. Not in an alarming way mind you. It is more along the lines of bashfulness." She started to blush now thinking on the subject. " We have been saying.. .Odd things to him. Things in jest of course but they could yet carry truth." Celestia`s could tell the emotion she carried in her eyes when she had finished. Even though the situation was worse then she imagined, she couldn't help but laugh aloud at he sisters explanation of love. "Sister!" Luna cried. "Cease this meandering at once!" She could not. "TIA stoooop!" She was now lightly hitting her older sister. Just then, a messenger came in with a scroll. "Your majesties." The messenger bowed. "I have received word that Princess Silver Wind will be arriving tomorrow morning." He held out the scroll that was levitated out of his hooves and into Celestia`s. "Very good, you are dismissed." The stallion bowed and went away as Tia read the scroll. Dealing with her sister`s new 'friend' would have to wait till dinner. Celestia would have to fill her sister in on the happenings of Glacina. _________________________________ Frostjack was running down an ally in Trottingham chasing after somepony whom he did not know, or rather could not remember. Or rather didnt want to remember. All he knew was that he was following his feet like his steps were predetermined. As he was farther in the ally he found a silhouette of a pony but couldnt tell who it was. He could tell it was a mare a bit taller then him but he couldn see her. Now noticing her size he then took notice to his own. He was a colt. Around the age of 4 or 5 he assumed. He continued to chase the mare down the ally. He was catching up. He could almost see who she was. he reached out his arm in an attempt to grab her. She sped up drastically and he heard her giggle... He knew who she was. He remembered where he was. It was a memory of when he was still small. He was chasing his sister down an ally way because they were playing tag. He missed those days, he missed the feeling of care freeness and joy. But most of all he missed his sister. A quick knocking at his door woke him abruptly. "Mr. Frostjack, Dinner will be ready in one hour." The voice behind the door said. "If you would please follow me so you may have a bath before you eat." Frostjack sluggishly got up and saw that he was still clutching the necklace in his hoof. He tossed it on the bed trying to forget the dream/ He opened the door and followed the cleaning mare down the hall half asleep. She led him to the bathing area and laid out his new attire for dinner. "If you need anything I will be outside." Frostjack had woken up more at this point and decided to ask her her name. "My name is Feather Dust. Its not the best name I am sure but its mine. My friends call me feather." She played with her hooves when she finished her answer. "Might I ask you a question?" She asked gingerly. "Yeah, go for it. I should warn you I am terrible at math." He joked. She was silent for while. "Is it true that you and Princess Luna are lovers!?" She blurted out. To stuned to react all he could muster up to say was a quick. "Naw. Were just friends." Feathers shoulders dropped. She almost looked put out at his answer. He hoped to hide his enthusiasm when he asked. "Why, whats been going around?" The mare tried to shy away from him. "It really wasnt anything sir just courtyard gossip." Frostjack stepped closer and smiled putting a hoof on her back. Little did he know the effect it had on the mare. "Please its just Frostjack." The smile faded a bit. "But seriously whats being said? Does she have a thing for me or what?" Feather Dust saw the look in his eyes and she wondered why he wanted to know so badly. It clicked and she covered her mouth with her hooves and gasped. "You like Princess Luna!" She yelled. Frostjack quickly blushed and said that he didn't but she was too smart for his tricks. "Oh my gosh I cant believe you like the Princess! I though it was just another bogus rumor but it truuue!" "Whats wrong with liking the Princess? Im sure tons of ponies do!" He said in his defense. "Of course everyone loves Princess Celestia but you like Princess Luna!" She was laughing herself onto the ground. "She so scary!" Frostjack stopped blushing. "I mean how could like someone so creepy? Shes Nightmare Moon for petes sak-mpfh!" Frostjack had put his hoof over Feather`s mouth. "HOW DARE YOU TALK ABOUT HER THAT WAY!" Frostjack released her mouth. "She is your Princess! You should feel honored to even be in this castle with that kind of thinking!" He was shaking with anger. "Get out of here! And if I catch wind of you talking bad about Luna again Ill tell Celestia herself about how you feel about her sister. AND! How rude you were to an honored guest! Im sure with this much dirt you`ll be kicked out of here within the hour!" He slammed the door to the bath leaving the stunned mare outside. She thought no one cared about Luna like that. Thats the first she had heard it. He was smiling at her just a moment before. She couldn't fathom how somepony could smile like that and get so angry in the same minute. She suddenly felt like she was the one who needed to clean herself. She hung her head and walked back to her duster. Frostjack was almost done with his bathing. He felt terrible for how he had yelled at the mare. But at the same time he didn't like anypony bad mouthing Luna. He pondered on what she had said. Was it so odd for a young colt to have a crush on Princess Luna? He then went on pondering how much of the kingdom shared in her sentiments. ________________________________ The two princesses were adorned in there usual evening dresses. Celestia had on a long white long gown with no shoulders. Her hair was done the same was it always was. Luna was dressed in a Dark blue dress with light purple trim that went down to just barely covering her cutie mark. It used to do the same as her sisters but she had grown since she came back from the moon. She was reluctant to ware it but her sister told her it would really catch his attention. She worried if she wanted that kind of attention from him so soon after the whole carriage incident. She had her hair in an up do which she only did on special occasions. They sitting at the large table which was beautifully prepared for the nights meal. By order of Celestia, the table had been moved outside so that Luna could impress her guest with a beautiful night. She had used a little too much of her magic for the night sky and was feeling more hungry then she usually liked. Celestia was seated at the head with Luna seated at her left with her back to the balcony, the moon carefully positioned behind her. After the explination from her sister Luna wanted nothing more then a stress free dinner with her sister and friend. She giggled to herself. She had never had dinner with a friend before. This was a first for her. She wondered how many firsts she would have because of him. She shook her head trying to rid herself of such displeasing thoughts. Watching this spectate of her sister made Celestia ask her what was the matter but, after the words escaped her mouth the balcony doors opened and Frostjack was announced. Luna saw how he he had on a red tunic with brown slacks QQQQQQ His eyes blinked trying to adjust to the darkness. This worried Luna as she thought she made her night too dark too soon. after blinking a few times he stared at the sky. His eyes taking in the darkness and twinkling stars. He never had seen them this beautiful before. He looked for the moon only to find it seated right behind Luna. The breath left his lungs for a moment. He then remembered where he was and proceeded over to the table. Before sitting he greeted the princesses in a rather naisly voice. "Good evening to you Princess Celestia. And an equally good evening to you Princess Luna." He over exaggerated his bows to each of them and got a good chuckle out of Celestia. he seated him self. "Good evening to you as well Frostjack. "Celestia said. "I hope you had a relaxing stay so far." Frostjack`s smile wavered slightly. "Not as relaxing as I would have hoped your Majesty but restful all the same." He did not want to bring the mare at dinner. Partly for Luna`s sake but mostly for his own. He didn't want to get upset while eating. Luna timidly greeted him as well. "A fine evening to you Frostjack." She made the mistake of looking at his eyes. They were fixed on hers. She panicked slightly. "Do- you find our night favorable?" She asked with her olden way of speaking emerging due to stress. "Wait a sec. You make the night sky?" He asked amazed. Luna nodded. "You did not know? Tia makes the day and i the night." She explained how magic was used to enhance certain aspects of the sky and that was how they had night and day. He had heard the same story from his teacher when he was small but she found that Luna explaining it kept his intrigue. After Luna`s explanation Frostjack looked up at the night sky in awe. "You must of used a ton of magic tonight! This is most radiant night I have ever seen. The night always made me feel calm and safe but now, I feel like I could almost pick the stars out of the sky." He said with a humorous tone. He turned his gaze back at Luna to find her with tears in her eyes. "Luna whats wrong was it something I said?" Luna sniffled and replied. "We take pride in our moon and its sky, we have been made to think that many of our subjects dislike the coming of night." She paused and took a shaky breath. "And yet we have heard your kind words of praise towards our night and it has made us happy that somepony can partake in its enjoyment. What we- What I am trying to say is, thank you Frostjack," Luna smiled at him causing his blue coat to turn pink. Celestia had never heard her sister talk like that. Not in a very very long while. Why she started to tear up as well. This Frostjack had quite the effect on Luna of this she was sure. Celestia clapped her hooves together. summoning a waiter over. "I think after all that we could all use a bit of wine. Dont you?" Luna and Frostjack both nodded. The waiter went off to grab glasses and a bottle wine. The first step into understanding what kind of Stallion he is she would have to see what kind of drunk he was! Author's Note Sorry that getting this chapter out took so long! I am disliking where the story is heading so ive been thinking up new plots! But don worry! Its gonna be good! tell me what you think.
